rookie
So there are 12 new screens available here! And they look interesting. Different insertions - with a little bird - that sure is going to be fun. Also you are riding on the back of a technical, 1 Ghost at the boardcannon. So far the media just gets my hopes up. With a SP-Demo I can make my final desicion whether or not I buy the game. Edit- Correction, it is not a Ghost on that cannon. Cangaroo.TNT
Can't quite make it out, but it looks like assets include: Airstrike, Artillery, MULE, and US Marines? Perhaps someone with better eyes can clarify/correct the above.
Agent Smith
Do I see some slight terrain deformation? http://www.gamona.de/screenshot/detail/id-193208.htm#screen Look at the craters. It was less pronounced in GRAW1.
Hockeystick
Look how the ghost by the wall to the left of this screen. That's not the normal way to peek. Maybe he's running, but it sure looks cool.

IrishStout
Looks good.. unfortunitly my monitor at work is crap and the pics are all dark. john2gr
I'd like an answer from the Grinners regarding this screen: link to image There is a lot of confusion and some say that this is a pre-rendered shot. So is it a realtime ingame cut-scene shot (doctored with photoshop or authentic shot?) or is it a pre-rendered image? I'd really like to hear the answer from the devs themselves MODERATOR EDIT: Large image changed to link per forum rules. sb85
looks pre-rendered to me, but boy do these screenshots look polished! SP could rock.!! Edited May 18, 2007 by sb85
WDA_Slayer
Screens definately look great. The first screen remind anyone else of Roadblock, I think it was map D07 from [GR], Desert Siege expansion? Obviously tough to tell but that was my initial thought.
Arethusa
Do I see some slight terrain deformation?Pretty sure those are just decals with normal and parallax mapping. Same thing GRAW currently does for its bullet impacts and explosions. There is a lot of confusion and some say that this is a pre-rendered shot. So is it a realtime ingame cut-scene shot (doctored with photoshop or authentic shot?) or is it a pre-rendered image? I'd really like to hear the answer from the devs themselves It's neither. It's pretty obviously concept art. Edited May 18, 2007 by Arethusa

[30+]Retlaw
Soldiers look dark to me. I love on GR how you could see your teamate uniforms clearly.
Lightspeed
they do look nice - but then what's an SS. hopefully, the game plays as good as it looks.

ARDelta
Sorry, I'm not quite up to speed here. Could someone explain what "pre-rendered" means? I mean, if it's not rendered, then how do you get an image? It has to be rendered some how.
mwgfghost
I don't know the difference either Delta. But on to what someone said about the uniforms being too dark to see. I kinda prefer not to be seen even though the enemy AI will probably still see you. And I'm sure you could adjust the gamma(lighting) somehow if it's not good enough for you. But yeah these screens look nice. The one pic of the camo gun being loaded looked like Marine Subdued Digital Urban on the gun but they all look awesome. I like the one where the little bird's dropping em off and the other of the team in the truck. The more and more media I see on this game, the more I want it. I'm really looking forward to this game because this series combines tactical missions with full-blown ambushes and firefights. It makes you feel like you're in there firing the gun and being shot at. Have a good 'un. p.s. sorry if this got off topic at all.
GRIN_Wolfsong
Sorry, I'm not quite up to speed here. Could someone explain what "pre-rendered" means? I mean, if it's not rendered, then how do you get an image? It has to be rendered some how. Bascially pre-rendered means it's not rendered while you play the game, it's either a move file or a screen included in the game as background art for instance. The mose common use is for the intro video which usually is much higher quality then the game itself, simply because it's pre-rendered and gone through a real compositing process. Pre-rendered is like you do with movies. You use higher poly objects and render out in different passes with real 3D lighting inside your 3D software and then composite them together in another software where you color correct, mask and set levels to each pass however you want. A pre-rendered shoot can take several days for a cluster of a few hundred computers to render if it's a complicated shot at very high quality, when a real time rendered image that you see in the games you play, has to render at least 25-30 frames per second or the players get grumpy. And because of that everything has to be simplified in the calculations and less detailed in games compared to visual effects. Understand now? EDIT: I should add that pre-rendered stuff is what we do at my school, so I can give much more details about that area. But it would also turn very technical. Soldiers look dark to me. I love on GR how you could see your teamate uniforms clearly. Well, camo does that to people. Edited May 19, 2007 by Wolfsong
Stickan
I'd like an answer from the Grinners regarding this screen: <img removed> There is a lot of confusion and some say that this is a pre-rendered shot. So is it a realtime ingame cut-scene shot (doctored with photoshop or authentic shot?) or is it a pre-rendered image? I'd really like to hear the answer from the devs themselves That one's a loading screen picture, so it's a touched up ingame shot.

ARDelta
Thanks Wolfsong, that is exactly the type of response I was hoping for. I must admit that this bit makes me chuckle. A pre-rendered shoot can take several days for a cluster of a few hundred computers to render... Like I said, even a pre-rendered picture has to be rendered some how. When I heard the term pre-rendered, I thought of wire-frame images or something similar, but I understand exactly what you're saying. Also, thanks to GRiN_Stickan for clarifying the nature of the image.

A pre-rendered shoot can take several days for a cluster of a few hundred computers to render... Hehe. Well, I was a bit over the top there I guess. For a single frame you don't need a few hundred computers, those clusters are mostly for film clips of animated sequences of course. But I've had a single render computer run for over a week with light calculations on a single frame, which is quite extreme and only done for large billboard posters and such.
