Hi guys,

I have been invited into the CENTCOM project by Jay. I, on behalf of WytchDokta Sound Design, am exclusively doing the new weapon sounds (I'm getting a little help from GB - read below)

Originally, when I started out doing the new weapon sounds, I made each gunshot sound from scratch. Then, Jay linked me to military vids featuring the respective weapons being fired. He wondered whether it would be possible to rip the audio from the video.... I currently don't have software to such a task, but GB has, so I had a word with GB. GB then converted those videos to mp3 or ogg. Then he sent the videos back to me. So, I was able to take the weapon firing sounds from them.

In most of the videos, the weapons where being fired full auto only, and I was still able to make single shot sounds from that.

So all of the new weapons actually sound like the respective real life weapons now (e.g the M4 actually sounds like a real life M4, no over the top Hollywood style firing sounds). These are no ordinary weapon firing sounds, these are the real life weapon firing sounds!!

We originally set about doing the sounds just for the new weapons added by the CENTCOM mod. Then I found a video of an MG3 being fired, then I found a video of an MP5 SD and non SD being fired, then I found another vid of an AK47 being fired.... So, now we're aiming to replace ALL weapon sounds in GR, even the ones from the expansion packs.

Jay and Militia Man have both heard the WIP weapon sounds. I still have work to do on the sounds I've already done. I need to add more bass/make them louder/etc.

Yet another reason to look foward to Centcoms release

Any chance u will release these as a stand-alone Mod/Sound-pack after Centcom has been released ?

I only ask as I would love to use them in my own Mods (and Im sure others would as well), with as normal, full credit going your way

Anyway, great to here the M249 RIPPING its way through the air !

Incidently, I was thinking about doing that. Let's just say that it's highly possible that I will be doing such a thing. If I do it, I'll be throwing in other new sounds (like "ambient" sounds etc) and more weapon sounds too.

I haven't actually taken any new reloading/cocking/etc sounds from the videos, just the firing sounds. And I may not do this for CENTCOM mod, I may decide instead to do for the stand-alone mod/sound pack....

OK guys, stay tuned! I'll be posting back here with weapon sounds updates often. If anyone has any questions regarding the weapon sounds, or other elements of sound design (including engineering, mastering & dubbing editing etc), just hit me up with a PM - I'll only be too glad to answer your questions.

Yeah, just had a rethink on releasing the stand-alone sound pack. Just been in discussions with Jay, I won't be doing that stand-alone sound pack now, but we have had an even better idea! I don't know what details I can disclose on this matter (maybe Jay will post some more details up here?)

Anyway, trust me, it's gonna be very good. Watch my sig, it will soon a special CENTCOM pic in it soon to do with what I'm talking about.

EDIT: GB is going away on the 28th, so I am downloading a trial version of the software he uses to convert the videos to audio (so I can carry on with the sounds, rather than waiting for him to come back then convert the videos to sounds before I can carry on with them). It also means I should be able to obtain a full version of the software before the trial runs out, then I haven't got to rely on other people to convert the videos for me.

I just watched the gun videos. I just have to say, wow!!! It was very cool to see and hear all of those different guns. What I found most interesting was the suppressed M4. It was not as silent/suppressed as games, mods, and movies make them out to be. The suppressed sniper rifle on the other hand was a lot more suppressed than I thought it would have been.

I'm looking forward to playing and now hearing CENTCOM when it comes out. For everyone who did not get a chance to view and listen to the footage mentioned, click the link below.

Perhaps you can give other Skin-Mod like the Delta 1990 Mod a higher Priority than the CENTCOM Mod, so you can use your favorit Skin with the superb Weapons of CENTCOM at woodland Maps. Only prob are the Specialists.

One Question. Are there only weapons with Desert Camo in the CENTCOM - Mod ?

if they dont ill put the woodland skins from NED in there, i guess, but these are just so much prettier. Wow, never thought I'd say something looked better than DTD.
