  1. They have M4's because that's the primary weapon of Force Recon Marines. The regular grunts use the M16A4 but FR's standard weapon is the carbine.
  2. I thought the ARNG paid 100%? At least that's what one of their recruiters told me, like, 3 years ago. *shrug*
  3. I dont play tactical shooters for the multiplayer. I do play MP but my primary interest with them is the campaigns. So for me it's a big deal and I'm sure I'm not the only one. And GRAW2 is not a multiplayer centered game, if it was they wouldn't have wasted time on such an in depth campaign. Battlefield 2 is a multiplayer-centric title. Ghost Recon is not. It has both and neither is all that hot in every sequel so far. [GR] set a high standard and it doesn't look like they've even tried to match it, but rather turned the whole ship around and sailed to another port far away from the former game of the year. Unless there is some serious modding capability with the upcoming PC version I doubt many will be playing it a year after release. It doesn't have enough meat and potatoes. Just a whole lot of wasted potential that gets old fast. But really, none of that matters. My main and number one issue with GRAW2, just like the last one and GR2, is that it doesn't deserve the Ghost Recon name. Just like R6: Vegas is a disgrace to R6. Yes, these games are fun and I love them as action shooters but when I go back and play [GR] or even as relatively recent as Raven Shield I just get depressed at how my favorite sub- genre has all but dissappeared, mutated into this ###### child. I swear, SWAT 4 was the last respectable tactical shooter that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars and it will probably be the last until Armed Assault finally comes out in force.
  4. I actually like that, not neccessarily the Mexico setting, but the fact the campaign is more like one, long, grueling mission instead of a whole campaign. I mentioned in my review about wanting more freedom so I wont say it again because I'm too lazy to type it out again right now lol. I also want the 'less advanced warfighter'. Smarter AI and more customization with your weapons and team is a must as well. And for the love of Christ, NO MORE SOLO MISSIONS! They suck, this isn't Halo, it's Ghost Recon. The next one I think should be set in South America or the Middle East with a mission not unlike what we're dealing with in Iraq right now. A deadly insurgency that requires unconventional warfare, ya know, the bread and butter of Special Forces that we've seen so little of in recent games. How about instead of chasing down nukes that some dude stole after running over your dog and littering and is planning to use to blow up all the McDonald's restaurants in the US we just have a mission in some far off hole of a country where you have to go snatch a rebel leader at 3 o clock in the afternoon or a mounted patrol through a city or an ACTUAL recon mission (not the faux 'recon' missions GRAW 2 where in all actuality it's just you solo running around killing everything in sight) ala LRRP operations in 'nam?
  5. I rented Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 the other day, borrowed a 360, and beat it this afternoon. It's an amazing game, mad fun. However, it's still not Ghost Recon. The campaign was great but too linear, scripted, and ######-poor easy as a result. The story had me on the edge of my seat and the action was non-stop but it didn't feel like Ghost Recon, more like a realistic, future version of Medal of Honor. That's all good, but it's not Ghost Recon, as Ive said about 4 times so far. But, unlike the last GR I played, number dos, GRAW2 isn't horribly flawed. It's actually the best wargame I've played since Battlefield 2. And the best tactical shooter since SOCOM 1. The game mechanics are actually better than [GR], it's just that the campaign is so brainless in design you cant really flex your tactical muscle. The various supporting elements, blend of real-time and the classic command map, the cover system, and the weapon behavior are everything I've wanted in GR. All the game needs is more freedom. You have little if any here, it's like your being led by the hand through the entire thing and I hate that in a game like this. The story is also a little far fetched and ridiculous in execution, I dont feel like trying to get all into it but the stuff after the mercs show up just doesn't scan with me. Regardless, it was still very intense and with a couple narative changes would have been more believeable. One side note about the games realism, what is up with the weapons selection? Many are current issue or at least out there but half of the hardware in this game I've never seen in my life. I miss my M4 . lol Anyway, I think that covers the single player, now onto the mulitplayer. It's fun as hell but, once again, it's not Ghost Recon. Feels more like counter strike with less hit points with the way most people play. Split screen and coop is fun though, me and my friends had a good time with the various modes for hours last night. Territory is a pain in the ass but fun, we tried for about 2 hours straight and the 3 of us couldn't make it past 15 minutes. On the technical side of things, I'll say this game is flawless. The visuals had me drooling long after the first time I loaded it up. The animation is silky and I've never seen prettier explosions. Period. If they handed out awards for destruction effects GRAW2 would win by a long shot. Absolutely amazing. One thing that bugs me, however, is being able to see every round fired and a trail behind it. What's the deal with that? Did they think people are so retarded they wouldn't be able to tell where fire is coming from without having laser beams to show 'em? Whatever. The audio is also top notch, I even like the ingame music which I normally loathe in tactical shooters. I love how AW has brought GR back to the top of the realistic shooter genre, but it bugs me that a game with so much potential is bogged down by poor design in the campaign and cracked out MP. Even though that's more the player's faults than the developers, as everything needed for a MP experience even better than [GR] is there, it's just that XBOX live is full with a bunch of nitwits, no offense to anyone out there who isn't. The next Advanced Warfighter only needs one thing to make it a game truly worthy of the Ghost Recon name: freedom. Give me situations where I can actually make decisions and take multiple approaches to completing the mission. Give me back the setup of the original where I have multiple soldiers (ones who dont miraculously come back from the dead) I can kit up however I want, take as many or few of them with me as I please, and take control of them individually while in the field and give me access to support elements in a less gimmicky and limited scope. I cant stand being so restricted. That is the one, glaring and utterly frustrating problem I have with this game. The lack of choice. I'll end this review with a final grade and two minor gripes. 4 out 5 Gripe #1: Next time lets not have the game quite so advanced, I'd like to see more current/soon to be issued kit instead of a bunch of drawing board gear that will probably be ###### canned long before the time this game is set. and last but not least minor gripe #2: What genius decided to make my AT weapon a primary that if I actually want to see used I have to lug it around myself because my AI anti-armour class is an idiot. Actually, the AI in general is fairly stupid, they move well and can follow most orders without turning it into a cluster###### but when it comes to actually killing the enemy I might as well leave them at the insertion point because all they do is provide more targets for the enemy and randomly fire in their direction...sometimes...most of the time they just sit there bitching at me about being shot at and not having a good firing position instead of taking the initiative, like a real Special Forces soldier would, and doing something about it. Ok, well I dont want to end my review of an overall fantastic game on a sour note so uhhhh....YAY GRAW2 FTW YAY!!1!1one Anticipating the next installment already.
  6. Whatever happened to this? Was it realeased cause all I can find is the beta.
  7. Wow, if there was ever a Brit mod to top my beloved c$k commandos mod this one looks to be it! Keep up the great work guys, this could very well be CENTCOM: UK lol
  8. Are The New "Clancy Franchise" Games Even Relevant? ...No. Having spent a good amount of time with GRAW on the 360 I can say that, while a damn fun game, it is not Ghost Recon. The multiplayer is more like a 3rd person counterstrike with a small bit more depth, to me. I'm really hoping GRAW2 will finally give a game worthy of the name, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I do, however, have very high hopes for Armed Assault and Rogue Warrior.
  9. First mission is a royal pain in the ass. The Marines you're with are useless and do nothing but run off and alert all the bad guys, and after having my ass thoroughly handed to me I made it out with 3 out of 6 men only to be wasted by a guy on a technical turret who I shot at least 100 times and didn't move until I was right on him. The first part is just GR's ######ty allied AI, but the second seems like some kind of bug with the last objective. I've never had that happen before and lets just say I was more than a little miffed about it.
  10. I remember 3 years ago or whatnot it was looking great and recently I checked up on it and supposedly a lot of work was lost from a crash or something and then there wasn't much after that and RS is banned for whatever reason. What happened? That mod looked BA.
  11. I liked most of the new weapon sounds. The new M-4 loud and silenced sounds were great. Which weapons have you tried using? I've tried them all and in most cases I find the default GR sound is much better.
  12. Great mod, guys. I haven't gotten too in depth with it but visually it's amazing, although the weapon sound effects aren't exactly the greatest. I'm still highly impressed with the overall package, though, and I'm gonna start on the campaign tomorrow when I've recovered from the hangover I'm guarateed to have lol
  13. !!!!!!!!!!!111!!!1!!1!!!!!1!!one!exclamationpoint!!eleven YES!! Thank you! *rushes off to reinstall GR* !!!!
  14. GRPC by a long shot. GR2 XBOX was mildly entertaining as was GRAW but in the end no other game has ever held a candle to GRPC. I've never played a game for so long so much as that. They need to regress with the next one. Keep the spiffy visuals, whatever...just bring the gameplay back to the original standard.
  15. Why dont you put a screenshot of the model you would like to see in GR1 ? It'll take me a bit to find a good pic but if you've played GR2 or seen the real SF/SEAL's/FR operators in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 60 Minutes piece on Navy SEAL's in Ghanny is another good reference point. You should be able to get an idea of what I mean: SPEAR, custom (like Blackhawk, Eagle, and the like) rigs and webbing. MICH heltmets. RAID BDU's. Ya know, chars that look similar to Cpt Mitchell, Salvatore, Ramirez, Parker, Foster, etc etc. Here's a group photo of the GR2 team: http://www.dedigitalerevolutie.tv/filecont.../GR2-Ghosts.jpg You can see them all individually on the official Ghost Recon 2 site under the characters section. http://www.ghostrecon.com/us/ghostrecon2/index.php There's good RL pictures out there but I can't find them right now. I used to have some on my HD but they were lost in a reformat. The CENTCOM mod is pretty much the type of characters I've been wanting to see for years. That's why I'm so excited about it. Too bad it's not out yet and there's no estimate on when it'll be done.
  16. I've asked this before but some people can't seem to grasp the concept that I wasn't asking for a GR2 mod, perse, but rather a mod that makes the specialists look like the operators from that game. Kept spouting off about copyright and such. Which is ridiculous as I never said anything about using ubisoft assets. Not porting anything just basically a model/skin mod that has a realistic looking, modern SF A-Team, which I had yet to see up to that point IE: SPEAR, MICH helmets, etc. But now with CENTCOM (whenever it's released) it's kind of a moot point as it has exactly what I've been looking for. Except for the fact I was told they might not do a woodland version of their characters.
  17. Eh names mean nothing. It's still [OFP: DR] and probably will be more like it then whatever they end up publishing with that name. lol After the dissapointment of the last 2 GR's, though, I'm just hopeful that one of these games delivers the goods and surpasses the original GR and OFP. Games that are over 5 years old at this point. Sad...
  18. Ok, from what I understand there's Armed Assault which I must say has made me nut myself. Then there's an TBA game for next year that's supposed to be "the ultimate" game. And then there's OPF2 which I've been able to find absolutely nothing about. What's happenin? Either way I am psyched for AA, gives me an actual reason for upgrading my computer this year.
  19. Hoooo boy, I can't play AW on my PC and after playing it on my friends I really dont care to, but this mod is the only thing that's keep GR alive and well for me. If it weren't for that I would have buried the poor dog months ago.
  20. This mod so does not deserve to be on the second page.
  21. I'm just wondering if there's any mods out there for Full Spectrum Warrior, after beating it earlier tonight I'm looking for something to spice things up or add new missions but there doesn't seem to be any kind of community for this awesome game.
  22. Beautiful. I so cannot wait for this mod. It's the only reason I reinstalled GR, again.
  23. I'd say the Metal Gear series is the way cutscenes are supposed to be. Definitely the most film-like and engrossing games ever made, IMO.
  24. Did WytchDokta ever post that sound preview he was talking about? I'm very curious to hear these "new, realistic" sounds he was speaking of. GR has some of the best sound ever but after 5 years it's nice to hear something new and a little more life-like.
  25. Looks kickass. I LOVE the first one so I'm really hyped about Ten Hammers. I just really hope they change the British soldiers, though, cause in case noone has noticed, they're definitely not wearing Brit unis or carrying Brit weapons. It would be nice to see Desert DPM and SA80's when the game is completed.
