Pyro_Monty
Check out The 22nd SAS for all your tactical needs (provided you have limited needs, LMAO ). Go into the 'Killing House' and check out the sniper tactics that myself and El Patricio wrote up. If you have any ideas for expansion of that section, mention it here By the way, there is a good sniper article on GR.net too. Go into 'Recon' above and take a look in there. XRW_Hotdog
i have been and always will be a sniper in GR. my only complaint is for the lack of cover that can be found on any map for a true sniper. in Delta Force 2 there was long grass everywhere on most maps and a lot of time i could lay down and hear enemies run past me and not even see me. in GR this will never happen because there is hardly any ground cover. the one exception is these sporattic little clumps of grass that can occasionally be used if you are facing your enemy head on and just inside of it. if someone comes to the side you are completely uncovered and a sitting duck. the main thing is pick a gun with good accuracy (reticule) at full zoom. try not to scan the area at full zoom all the time, you will miss enemies sneaking up on your flank if not carefull. at full zoom this means you have to move from left to right a lot and makes you easy to spot from the movement even for a rifleman. hope this helps a little

JTF-2
i've always found that snipers in single player are kinda pointless (don't get me wrong, i play as them all the time). but...since you can rarely shoot past 150m in any of the standard maps whats the point? if your good with a rifleman you can easily shoot 150m. anwaym just have fun with them. *oh ya, and good hides are nice too: shadowed areas, bushes, grass etc.*
Ruin
Go prone for better accuracy. Concealment is useless in SP. Don't bother. MP is different. Get a semi-auto sniper-rifle (PSG-1 is my fave). Use Cover...NOT concealment. Take head-shots. Take your reticle closing time into consideration when prepping for a shot. Don't get to close. Watch your ammo. Always bring along a pistol (or SMG depending on your kits) for potential CQB.

If you edit the .env files you can get 400 meters of visibility (and less fog). This can be done for the original GR with the Line of Sight mod. Sniping becomes a whole different game with that fog wall pushed back (400 meter running targets! Wheee!). On the blow-the-pylons-and-take-out-the-camp mission I can take out nearly every enemy from one sniping spot. And here's a sniping tip: when you spot some targets traveling in groups (2-3 guys a few meters apart) don't start firing until they are all far away from the nearest cover, so you can drop them before they dig in and start returning fire. This fits under a more general tip: always think a few shots ahead.
tyovan4
always take out the guy shoooting at you first, and remember where his buddies ran off to, so you can shoot them next while theyre prone

I keep the original files handy and switch them when I play MP. Although...... It would be interesting to play an MP game where everyone had extended visibility. It would certainly test concealment, navigation and cooperation skills, and a just think of the challenge of taking an assault team to hunt down a lone sniper who can pick you off across 300+ meters. Any takers?

xSynergy
Here are a few sniper tips from my experience in GR - Find good concealment (preferably dark areas with bushes) - Stay still, don't move unless you have to (this includes looking around) - Find a spot where its hard for enemies to get on your six - Realize that the m24 and its camo netting is your friend...your best friend (70% of the time, snipers are compromised because their shiny silver .50 bmg is sticking out of the grass/bush)
Killa_N_Manila
To really master sniper techniques, grab a couple of buddies and practice online. Let them be the judge of how well your hidden. If they can see you, find a new spot. Go through every map, meticulously locating all the good sniper spots. Although arduous, it'll pay off in the end when playing an intense MP map... foxship
Heres one thing I dont see mentioned. Go with a silenced weapon,if not the enemy will key to your location and you dont want that. foxship
Aggressor
Silenced weapons are ideal in some cases, but I find that sometimes the first shot does not always kill, I've even seen enemy AI take a head shot from a .50 cal and still manage to shoot back . Patience, cover/concealment and planning are things that should be considered. Edited January 21, 2003 by Aggressor

Alfa FSB
Experience. Play a lot and do your own tactics and read the FM 23-10 and the Tactics sections of www.nordicsnipers.com. Don`t cheat like the thing with visibility in misssion 7 of GR. Try to fire only if you need taking out sentries, targets that threathen yout team members and enemy snipers and support specialists. Sugestion: Try to use my mod(General Enemy Realism Mod) to get a new aspect of snipers a gameplay realistic accuracy for sniper weapons and sniper team concept in SP. Oh and a better topic would be Counter Sniper in GR and How to Spot a Sniper(like bullet entry method) and How to Hunt and kill a Sniper in GR when your tem dosn`t have a sniper.
