calius
Im very interested in the new engine (thats been talked about) that may/would/could/should/ .. etc be in GR2. I had quibbles about things in GR1 and wondered if anyone else thought the same, and maybe this could be managed in GR2 ... 1. Weather effects to be less on/off, as in rain gradualy pittering out, or biulding up from spits to shower when starting to rain (same with snow). Fog to gradial become more dense etc. 2. Morphing character movements. Its clear to see characters follow exact way points and also when fiddling in a stationary position its very "start this motion then stop, then execute the next motion". Is there anything that could blend this more naturaly? I understand keeping things down due to CPU power, but is there any engine that can do this sort of thing, is the engine for GR2 capable of this ? Dont get me wrong the game rules and ive been hooked for a year but do you think this might happen in GR2? any other nitpickers out there ? en4rcment
Hey... Your weather idea sounds really good....but I bet it would be very difficult to program in...unless they scripted the weather to snow/rain at certain intensities for certain periods of time...but if you want it totally random...that's probably to much for the engine to handle... I, myself, am hoping for more realistic enemies. I can't stand getting shot at from half a mile away and half my team going down with fatal injuries...it's possible but not very likely..not to mention that my AI can't hit an enemy at 50 feet...I believe that there are many creative ways that they can make the game challenging without making the enemies' accuracy so "out of bounds"... lexsis
I would like to see (in GR2) the following; more damage !! I think a real M136 would blow the hell out of a parked car or truck and would certainly knock down a few walls of buildings. I hate firing an AT 4 at a guy behind a parked car and not kill him. same goes for guys inside houses and buildings. ability to choose uniforms for certain maps. I wish we could select which BDU we want to use, this would allow us to not only make more skins but make hiding a bit more realistic. take the maps red square and mountain for example, wouldnt it be cool to have winter cammo? vehicles that actually do something...lets get some armored vehicles in here, especailly during multiplayer: why cant we have Bradley & BMPs providing support for us in multiplayer. more balanced maps: some maps are just terrible for siege. some offer a big advantage to defenders. bushes that we can actually hide IN as opposed to hidding behind. I hate the fact that we have to hid behind bushes rather being able to hid in them like in Operation Flashpoint !!! IGOR, get rid of it completly !!! replace it with a wysiwyg editor !!!!!!! and finally, rais the bar on the minimum requirements !!! if people are too cheap to buy the latest processors and video cards then they dont deserve to play great games. why hold the rest of us back because of hardware slackers. Drifter
AI Bazooka men that shoot at tanks.
WhiteKnight77
AI Bazooka men that shoot at tanks. Remember that RSE want you to play the game and not the game to play itself. Would there be any fun in that or a need to buy the game if it did?
Kamakazi
The weather thing sounds awesome. I also think that you should be able to pick up a fallen comrades ammo if you have the same type of gun or something like that. and pick up a dead enemies weapon and drop yours if you didnt have any ammo
xG5kdo
I'd like to see better team mate AI, for one. Team mates that can actually watch your back without you actually having to tell them specific arcs to watch. More terrain interraction and distructibility. Like crates, and damaged building facades. and finally, rais the bar on the minimum requirements !!! if people are too cheap to buy the latest processors and video cards then they dont deserve to play great games. why hold the rest of us back because of hardware slackers. Well, you know what, not everybody can afford the latest processors and vid. cards. This is all nice and good to you who has corporate jobs or work a job that pays more than $10/hour. But many of us don't have that kind of money. I, for one, am a student. I'm paying for school myself, and I'm full time. At this time I'm taking 21 credit hours (that's 8 classes), plus I work in a coffee shop that pays me $ 6.50/hour. I pay tuition, books, supplies, plus rent and utility bills. It's not that I'm a hardware slacker like you so aptly put, it's simply too expensive for me to constantly buy the latest of hardwares. If I can afford it, sure, I'd like to get all the high-speed stuff, but I can't. Simple as that. So go easy on labeling those of us with less capable machines 'hardware slackers'. Out. Jepetto
Yea man...Take it easy...Not like I can go buy myself a nice little GeForce4 ti4600 at the drop of a hat...Maybe you got alot of money to through around but im 16 and pay car insurance while working a min. wage job...I have a nice puter anyways but that was a christmas present... Anyways... I would like to see some ballistic physics like bullet drop and stuff like that...so long as it is accurate enough that you can still hit what you aim at mostly...but for snipers I think it would be interesting... I would like to see at least 3 weapons be able to be carried...Rifle, Pistol, and hand item...Two just seems limiting... While the friendly AI can be controlled well enough that they will function I think they need work still...Say even when they do lock onto a bad guy and start firing on semi-auto...The rate of fire is pretty slow still...Would it be more realistic for them to take 2 quick shots then back off? Or even a more independent way of thinking for them...Like random increments that they fire at? Take the two quick shots, level again and take another... Better sniper ghillie models...They seem like they are just wearing a coat that covers their body...I would like to see some volume to them...maybe some extra foilage on them... Chavez
The ability to throw a handgrenade at different lengths is high up on my wishlist. And pls. don't give me any "here is how to do it" after this post CoZ I already know how to bounce it off that third branch of that second tree and right into your chest pocket ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited January 9, 2003 by Chavez
San
dont forget GR is a reality game (thats why I'm playing it !), - In real life u don't pick up enemy-ammo, because: 1) u have enough for yourself, 2) it's most likely a different kind of ammo (mission should not take hours but minutes) - More damage to buildings and cars: I would like that as well, but don't think the engine is capable of it. (not yet) - More realistic weather ? if a mission would take lets say 15min it's unlikely weather will change drasticly, and then the engine... - The AI is less tough then enemy, because then u have to play instead of the AI. It's not realistic but it's for the balance. More ? dont know heh, just keep GR real and don't make a quake-like game of it !
JoeSchmoe
Sign me up for the building and vehicle damage...I'd love to be able to blow a hole in a wall with an anti-tank. Ditto on the selectable BDUs...would definitely come in handy. Other things...hmm... Air support would definitely be something I'd like to see available; not necessarily helicopters, but maybe A-10s instead (adds the possibility of laser designators as a secondary weapon) Aside from that, more maps and a smarter AI, and I'm one happy dude. budgie
I've said it before but I had a new Idea or two since then. Old ones first: Smarter and more realistic friendly and enemy AI Better kit selection (more slots) User friendly map/mission editor (a la Total War Franchise) More campaigns - fewer missions per campaign (3 short ones totalling 24 missions in different locations with perhaps one overall story arc and crossover specialists) Perhaps a non linear campaign with a roster of several dozen missions that branch off from one another and effect outcome. That way the replay value of the campaign, not just individual missions would be longer. For SP, day to night cycles in missions, less strict time limits, potential to play different strategies and stay in the area a long time if necessary. Perhaps ability to choose insertion time. larger team wouldn't hurt Just as Plausible conflicts as before (North Korea, Central Asia, Middle East) Artillery, air support, medevac and extractions. Naked asian women No more bugs Our money's worth.
calius
Well that certainly got the ball rolling ... some decent suggestions here, any chance this forum gets a lookin from any "in the know" bods at UB soft ? They should take a note of this little lot, even if this is already what they are thinking about. Tell you what, I will print this and deliver myself, I will walk in the offices like this - - and the receptionist will look at me - - and before you can say the magic words " don like stealth myster " ... its curtains .... Right thats enough of that ..... maybe they might look at this eh ....
The_Slink
Ability to split Fireteams up to cover more effectivly. Ability to go straight from standing to prone. Ability to choose camo. WYSIWYG mission maker! Easier vehicle routing.(See in Igor where they go?) Two grenades for everyone! MERC7
Good suggestions. Yeah, having to manually adjust tango AI for good firefights is a drag. More realistic enemy AI ability would be great. Nothing like being taken out by a head shot from an AK at 200 yards through fog. Better, longer firefights. -Much more interaction with environment: More doors open and interiors to enter and use. A biach running down a street and trying to get into a door that wont open and cant be breeched. -If there is a blown out building, I want to be able to run up the rubble and hide in it. -Be able to call in air strikes or ground support (humvee, et) -allow the threat indicator to be toggled off w/o loosing the gun sight. **A "stay" command for team AI that allows one team member to advance while other two in squad stay put...then call them to you. -a clay that is detonated by sensor or trip wire. -demo charges that can be detonated manually And "F-off" to the hackers, get a life yousociopathic freaks. Gargolasix
OFF TOPIC I have heard that when the US is at war, the Seal above actually changes so that the eagle is facing the arrows and not the olive branch.
=SEALZ=MATRIX
Artic!! Artic!! Artic!! Not just a little snow, maybe three feet of it..You would even see the footprints where someone had been..You could actually track your enemy. Camo would be superb, extremely hard to see due the guns wrapped in white. That's all for my wish list--
ASF_Sidewinder
A little more interaction between your environment would be awesome. Being able to open more doors of the buildings and being able to do more damage to buildings. Mission updates in the middle of missions would be awesome to. Being able to pick up fallen enemies weapons and ammo would be cool.
Drifter
If the guy carrying the bazooka calls out "ARMOR SPOTTED" and does not do anything, what is the point? Maybe I'm busy hunting/defending against enemy forces that are attacking/counterattacking & I can't/or do not want to use the bazooka man. THAT is what makes the game fun for me, I know my teammates can help out in the mission. But as they are, the bazooka man does not do his job. Killa_N_Manila
I haven't really read the other posts, but the weather idea is a very good idea. I've thought about it before and think it would only add more realism to the game. Torrential rains dying down into a mist, or snow flurries erupting into an all out blizzard would definately be great to see.
Kamakazi
When I was talking about picking up ammo I meant from your own dead comrades and you would have to have the same weapon to pick it up. Dont all people in combat carry grenades? if so why arent nades just with you in the game?
XRW_Hotdog
more damage !! I think a real M136 would blow the hell out of a parked car or truck and would certainly knock down a few walls of buildings. I hate the fact that we have to hid behind bushes rather being able to hid in them like in Operation Flashpoint !!! more damage to the enviroment would be cool and yes the stronger the gun the more able it should be to shot through solid barriers. like if some one is standing behind a wooden door any gun should be able to hit him, and a 50 cal sniper rifle should be able to go through a car. and the main thing is this. too be able to hide. it is nearly impossible as it is right now. i think kind of due to the fact that if you use night vision everyone lights up like a glow stick no matter where they are. make the night vision only work at night and tweak it a bit for said above. work on the collision detection. cut down on the glitching. Kiff
I don't see any reason why a guy couldn't carry a frag or two in addition to his other stuff. The weather changing would be nice. Armpatchs! We need armpatchs.
budgie
@ WK; I think that guy meant that it would be good to be able to at least order the AT guy to take out a tank, rather than having to switch to him to do it ourselves. The option should at least be there for those (like me) who want to play one character throughout the mission and don't want to lug all the mission specific gear. Col. Hapablap
Some thoughts on GR2 Most of these ideas are for enhancing multiplayer games: The ability to tell if a sensor is friend or foe – This could be done by getting within a specified distance and looking at it with your weapon – crosshairs change is a working, friendly sensor. New Class – Electronics Specialist Equipped with carbines only this class can carry multiple sensors kits, or a new type of sensor that also locates enemy sensors. Maybe this specialist could be equipped with an infrared red vision system or heat sensor. Also this specialist is equipped with sensors that show up on command maps. New After Game Info Show the win/loss percentage for each player. This way people in a random siege game, can see how many times they are on the winning squad. This might encourage people to be a team player instead of just going for kills. Command and Conquer – AV Apollo’s game type Buy this off Wade Gilles, it is an excellent game type, and it eliminates spawn killing by the defensive team, since there is no defensive team. Both teams (or multiples of) must attack and defend. Server Interface – Maps Allow the host to pre-select the maps they wish to play. That way a server on remote does not have people playing maps that are not popular. Gun Sights – Get new ones The modders have shown that new gun sights increase the enjoyment of the game. I personally love the one for the Diemaco C7, I find the GR sight obscures the target when going for the long shot. Kit Selection – Make it easier Instead of having to cycle through all the kits to make your selection, just cycle through the primary weapons and have another field to then select the secondary weapons. Thus you would cycle to M4 and then all the options available would be shown below, simply check which one you want. Kit Selection – Personally preset kits Have 4 buttons where you have pre-selected kits and specialists. If you like to play certain maps with a sniper with a M25 and a silenced pistol, assign that to a button. This will decrease the “o man I was changing kits” messages. Grenade Launchers – New sight required Incorporate a vertical angle gauge into the sight. If your grenade falls short at 20 degrees you will know to go to increase the angle and hence the range next shot. Some of the guns with grenade launchers actually have leaf sights on them. Anti Cheating Measures I don’t really understand how the cheats work, so I don’t know how to combat them, but is it possible to record the X, Y and Z positions of each kill and the coordinates of the shooter? That way if a building is in the way you would know something is up, or if fog limits your sight to 100m and the shot is 150m, you know something is up. This could also be used to measure distance traveled, to prevent the “how could they run that fast – GAN” message. Hand Gestures Not the obvious ones when team killed, but some simple ones, like lay a sensor if you got one. Or cover me. Any one who saw Saving Private Ryan will appreciate how hand gestures are used in “real” combat. Just a though
