[RS]Blaze went to E3

Recommended Posts

Here is a copy of Blaze's report.

What's new about GR2?

The biggest addition to GR is the ability to pick up weapons off the ground, as well as grenades, ammo.

What if anything will be different about uniforms?

There is a possibility that the Uniforms might be like "AA" in that you will see yourself in U.S. Camo and your enemy will always look like indig. forces and vice versa. They are still thinking about this so nothing final.

Will there be smoke grenades in GR2?

Yes

Another comment about grenades, you can throw underhand.

How will the Medic feature be used?

All players will have the ability to heal. Once you have been healed you will be able to fight but your aim will suffer. If you had a leg wound, you still may show a gimp but you will be able to keep up with the team.

What will be different about the loadouts?

There will be pre set loadouts each including a pistol, rifle, and either M-136 or GL.

Will there be airstrikes in MP?

No, airstrikes will only be used in Sp mode, and only on set missions and locations.

With the maps being bigger, will players be able to respawn where they died, close to thier team?

A new addition to GR2 is the use of saveing game at save points, allowing you to continue from the same place rather then treck all the way across the map like in GR.

Can you walk up hills and rocks in GR2?

A little bit better then before, there used to be problems with collision not allowing proper movement. That should be cleared up now in GR2. Also cleared up by that is no more hill or crator glitching as was in GR.

What is the new View all about, will you still get to use the First person view?

Yes, views will be changable, maybe not in game, but as an option to select before game starts.

How many players will be available for MP play?

Not sure yet, at least as many as before.

When will it be released, and how likely is it that it will be on time?

Release is Dec. 2004, and should definately be out on time as the GR2 project is at least 2 years old.

I see your demos are of the XBOX version, will there be a PC demo?

An XBOX demo may become available but not sure about the PC demo before the release date. Maybe

Also, Blaze said that the Xbox version will be very similar to the PC version. The xbox version will be ported to the PC according to the person he talked to.

XBOX port to PC=B.S. piled higher and deeper than you could ever believe. Looks like it's curtains for PC GR2 tac sim players. Get on your run and gun boots it's Medal of Ghost Duty SOCOM Recon Honor coming your way XMAS 2004.

Same here. I'm going to wait to see what happens.

One thing I've learned recently regarding new games and expectations.. they are usually a surprise. Recent releases have surprised me different than expectations, some good and some bad.

Overall, it seems the things they can verify are things we all like and asked for. It seems the things people are getting worked up for are.. basically.. assumptions (ie - assuming that if it's a port to PC from Xbox it'll be a crappy game.. when in fact you won't know until it happens).

I am very much looking forward to it. And even if it's not exactly and perfectly what I wanted.. chances are it'll be better than all the other stuff out there right now that is kinda crappy.

Ghost Recon 1 is rare pearl. quite unknow from the masses. It was foolish to believe, that it would remain a little gems for specialists.

Ubi soft politic to make big bucks is to use multiplatform, and "standardised" games. You can't get something as particular as GR with these methods.

Hopefully, some other company will produce another game we love as much.

Will the mp be free in GR 2 ?

The sun is shinning outside, for the first time in 15 years I'm considering getting some reallife activity... never thougt i would fall that low :P

Oh and one more comment made by the developers. "We know the PC version is what got us where we are today, We have no intentions of abandoning or disappointing the PC User." They also told me that it's just a whole lot easier to develop on the XBOX and port it over. I'm no programer so I will just have to trust them. I would immagine it's a lot cheaper too, rather then doing two seperate versions. I do however wish they could spend the extra time and money on us Fans, we deserve it.

Seems they already delivered a knock out blow with all the things I hate being put into GR2. It would take a miracle to not disappoint us now. :(

I don't understand why everyone is negative. Who cares where the game is released first, as long as when GR2 is release for PC, its true to the original. From everthing I have read, server side options should allow the game to run as the original did (first person view, no medic, etc.) but with better graphics and the gliches and such fixed. That right there would be enough to put me in nirvana. However, PC gamers should wait until something specifically released for PC (demo, beta, screenshot, whatever) is available before making any judgement. What I saw in the demo video? More detailed maps, larger maps (that map looked pretty big), more things in the enviroment to interact with, the ability to move around and over small objects, better graphics. That would be awesome to play that map in multiplayer. As far as Enemy A.I. goes, the only enemies I worry about are human. Bottom Line is if UBI makes the game playable for the Consolers, let them, it gives UBI $, as long as I can play it in the traditional form on my PC. I haven't seen much that prevents it.

nice report! but as i feared, the pc-version will be a simple port from xbox. i'm still hoping, that gr2 will be true to the original series. some changes sound great, whereas other new features do not appeal to me at all.

hopefully there will be a pc-demo availiable before the final release, so i could check whether i want to buy the game or not. as stated before: i played the gr1-demo and instantly wanted to have that game.

I do my best to maintain a positive outlook. I'm just disappointed that RSE has, despite their reassurances, forgotten the PC crowd. I'm still reeling from the shoddiness of RvSh. I don't want another great title ruined by catering to the mindless masses. As far as I'm concerned, the consoles can all be burned.
