snared_gambit
DSL is my new love. So much faster then 56k. I've downloaded the 30 meg files I've always wanted to in under an hour. Ahh, life is good!
Camel
Yeah DSL is great, but soon you will want better I have had it for about a year and a half, and it is good, but I still want better
Ghost_in_the_shadows
i just got cable high speed is the best. far better teh 56k
Dark Ranger
Yes, yes it is. You'll find that you spend more time on the web than you would with a 56K. It's all that *wasted* time dialing out that kills ya. I got a decent DSL package, but I'm considering upgrading to 1.0 or 1.5MB d/l and 512KB upload. Just gotta dig up some cash. Pave Low
[Topic moved from Ghost Recon\General Discussion to Computer Discussions] The only downside to a faster internet connection is . . . . . your soon gonna need a bigger hard drive (or a 2nd one) due to the increase in downloaded stuff
Kamakazi
I officialy hate everybody with DSL LOL

Ruin
Cable rocks! I avg around 150KBS, on slow times around 30KBS. I was getting 5KBS at max on my 56K. It's a dream... and I'm ALWAYS online! wheee!
WhiteKnight77
I have seen speeds of 163KBPS on my DSL for DL. I get 30MB files in minutes. I would only trade my DSL in for a T2 or OC3 line if I could afford either one.
firefly2442
Well guess who has 56k? *Points to himself* Drat Drat Drat! )@)#**#*$)$)* oh well..... another couple months until college.
Avey
Yeah well my best d/l speed with my 56k is about 4.9kBS so i beat you all
Crimson
My speeds have sped up a lot lately. I used to be around 150Kb/s, now im pushing 160. My uploads have gone up around 4Kb/s also... plus, when my downloads start, im downloading at 800Kb/s for a few seconds, then down to 700 for awhile. Its sooooo nice. magnumkp
I've got 56k at home and 2mb leased line at work. The worst difference for me is browsing 2 or more web sites at once. It is so utterly painful just being able to view one forum at a time. I don't bother with d/l's over 5mb because I can't be arsed to sit there and wait. WytchDokta
I need some help here guys. I got 56 gay, I mean k at the moment. I wanna get DSL. But have u gotta be in an area where the service is available to be able to get it? And do it use a dial-up modem? Help me pls, TIA.
NightCrawler
Yes you have to have it available in your area, and no more dial up modem, they should provide you with a router because you'll always be connected.
WytchDokta
*sobs* Looks like I'll be on 56 gay forever then....
Stinger
@Nightmare, you could look at cable...my cable can hit over 200kbps as long as the server allows me. And I've never expierienced bad speeds because to many people were on like some companies advertise... Still an OC255 connection would be nice 13.21gbps
WytchDokta
I can't get Cable, Broadband and now DSL too in my area!
NightCrawler
What about satellite??
Dannik
Satellite is great for surfing and downloading, but it's absolute garbage for gaming... waaaay too much latency.
Specter
See this thread. http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php...=ST&f=24&t=6206 Also, Satellite isnt total garbage for gaming. Only the satelite Service that use a dial up modem for uploading is garbage for gaming because of latency. I have played games on Hughes DirecWay, and it was simply put, sweeeeet. It depends on which Satelite service you use. Hughes I think is the best, and it uses Satellite for upload and Download. Most SAT providers are still using dial up for their upload. Starband used to be good also, but if Im not mistaken , they went broke. Edited July 3, 2003 by phantom110565
WytchDokta
Well, I can get satellite TV....
Specter
Check into Hughes DirecWay, but stay away from like DirecTV's offering, which uses 56gay for UL. Thats the important part. You want it to be Satellite connection both directions.
WhiteKnight77
The latest Maximum PC has a great article on DSL. I wish I could get that 8Mbps down and 2Mbps up service the guy talks about at home.
