  1. I have three copies of the recent Arma 3 Alpha Lite version if anyone wants one. It doesn't have multiplayer or the editor but at least you can try out the single player missions. Msg me on steam (same username) if you would like one.
  2. Thanks for the suggestions. Went with Crucial SSD, same size, less speed, but cheaper. Hopefully they can process it all quick and get it to me so I can start the build. @Cpl Ledanek: I think I'm good at the moment. I have an old PCI graphics card that I'll use when I move these old parts over to another case.
  3. Is thermal compound OK to use after extended periods of time? I have some old Arctic Silver compound (5 years old probably) that I covered and put away for later use. Doesn't it try out though?
  4. Here's what I'm thinking: Current parts (I already have these): Antec 900 Case (I don't have the USB 3.0 version, just the older one): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 Antec 850 Watt power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009 EVGA Geforce 560 ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604 Stuff to Buy: Arctic Silver compound http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 Corsair 2 x 8 GB = 16 GB RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233246 Asus Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131818 Intel i7 2600K CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070 Surge protector http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812120401 Cooler Master (3rd party cooler for CPU). I'm unsure about this, other recommendations or thoughts? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 SSD (probably 256 GB): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147138 OR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233227 Thoughts on SSDs? Seagate 3 TB hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148844
  5. Only gaming. I was thinking about going the SSD route for the operating system. Budget, hmm, that's tough. Probably less than $1200. I have an Antec 900 case, power supply, and EVGA Geforce 560 ti that I will be reusing so that's good.
  6. I need to build a new computer. Are there any new pieces of hardware coming out soon that I should consider waiting for? I know with technology you can never win as things always are getting cheaper and faster but just curious...
  7. Relying on friendly AI won't really work in this game. They're just not that great. Playing with real people through coop is the way to go.
  8. This is a good strategy. Arma 2 is pretty much dead now that they (probably?) won't be releasing any more DLC. Arma 3 is the next platform so they can just give it away and build up the community until it comes out.
  9. Seriously, watch the video. At first I was like, oh, they're making the next one, neat. Then I was like.... huh???? http://pc.ign.com/articles/117/1174661p1.html
  10. No problem, just tell them you run multiple gaming websites visited by thousands of people and that you're "kind of a big deal..."
  11. It's an interesting idea but I think it would drive people crazy. Essentially, it would try to encourage team play. However, wouldn't it be price discrimination which is illegal? (IANAL)
  12. The reason it says that is because you can add a parameter to the shutdown command to turn it off after a certain amount of time. Useful if you want to give users logged in a few minutes to save their work before being booted.
  13. What's the Internet issue you're having? @Gache: NTFS is a journaled filesystem if I recall correctly...
  14. Kinda reminds me of a thing I saw awhile back where someone found out their neighbor was using their wireless Internet. Instead of just shutting it down, he got creative... http://www.evontech.com/login/topic/960.html
  15. Been playing a lot of Shogun 2: Total War lately. If anyone would like to play a cooperative multiplayer campaign, hit me up on Steam. I'm not the greatest player in the world but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Steam username: firefly2442
  16. Dual boot Win 7 and Ubuntu on my desktop. Just Ubuntu on my netbook. For gaming, Windows is a requirement. If I could change one thing, that would be it. Otherwise, development and general use are all superior under Linux. Applications are easier to install and there are a wide variety of tools available. Plus support for older devices is much better under Linux.
  17. If they released proper mod support/tools and Project Reality updated their mod, this would totally rock.
  18. Mkay thanks. Ended up grabbing this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604 I'll remember to submit the warranty card for this one...
  19. My EVGA 8800 GTX sadly is dying. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130072 I'm getting red horizontal lines across the display whenever I load anything graphically intensive and then the whole system locks up. In my infinite wisdom, I neglected to turn in the warranty paperwork in time so I can't RMA the card. Give my motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131073 What kind of a performance hit would I get buying a PCI express x16 2.0 card and putting it in a motherboard that only supports PCI express x16 1.0? I'm not sure if I should just spend like $75 dollars and get a basic card that will work and build a separate whole new system from scratch, or if I should buy a really nice card and try to extend my system for another 6 months to a year... Suggestions? Thanks.
  20. I have an older Asus netbook (1000 w/ssd) and while the Atom processor isn't really fast, it's still a decent laptop. Some of the newer ones with Nvidia ION technology look kinda neat as long as they don't drain the battery too much.
  21. Very sad, my thoughts go out to his family.
  22. The MS keyboard probably doesn't let you set it to GMail.
  23. My favorite place on the plantation map is to get on top of the bushes right near where the gate is. There's ammo right there and all you have to do is mass fire on the tanks. Plus, at the end, everyone just has to jump down and run to the boat. No need to stay and fight any longer than necessary.
  24. You may want to check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard drive. I'm not sure how to do it in OpenSUSE but there's probably guides out there.
