Claiming Liberty

Posted by Rocky on Saturday, October 29 2011

Claiming Liberty is a brand new unofficial expansion pack for Ghost Recon from Riley Fletcher. What we like about this particular mod is not just that it's release is timed perfectly for the Ghost Recon 10th year anniversary, but that it is packed full of really great content.

We've had a sneak peak and the new content is superb; new vehicles, new specialists, new kits, new gametypes and 15 brand new missions. The campaign missions we've played are classic Ghost Recon tactical missions, very enjoyable.

Expect to see the public release in around 2 weeks!

Ghost Recon Still The BEST

Posted by Rocky on Thursday, May 26 2011

SimHQ are running a feature at the moment declaring what every fan that still visits this site every day already knows, Ghost Recon is STILL the GREATEST Tactical Shooter Ever.

It's a great summary article that hits on the main points of why 10 years later there is still no single game that can pull of what Ghost Recon with ease - accessible squad tactical gaming. I'm sure we could easily ramp that report up to twenty reasons instead of ten without even pushing the boat out, but it is a good hit list that developers would do well to mull over now and then if they want to revive this particular gaming niche.

Apex has started the discussion going in our forums, chip in with an aspect of Ghost Recon that YOU would put in a top 20, I'm going to kick it off with one of my own highlights, this way folks...

Jaguar Maze for ArmA II

Posted by Rocky on Sunday, March 6 2011

Last month we revealed a project to bring Ghost Recon type gameplay to ArmAII. This month, Lightspeed, the modder behind the project released the Island Thunder Jaguar Maze mission reworked for Armed Assualt II.

There's a hi resolution movie on youtube of mission highlights as played out by Legion of Spartans. The movie is extremely slick, and shows just how much the tactical gameplay we enjoy in Ghost Recon can be replecated in Armed Assualt II.

Read more in our forums here.

GR IT : ArmA:II

Posted by Rocky on Sunday, February 13 2011

Frustrated by the lack of anything worthy to fill the tactical boots of Ghost Recon in 2011, Lightspeed has been working away at a special project - Armed Assualt 2 : Island Thunder.

Harnessing the artificial inteeligence of ArmAII and using some custom scripts, Lightspeed has pulled together what he would like to think is a worthy Ghost Recon replacement, and the feedback is already very good.

He's so confident that this ArmAII mod will impress Ghost Recon fans that he has even issued a challenge; play his reworking of the Island Thunder campaign, solo or co-op, and see if it meets your expectations.

Watch a trailer about this amazing project at YouTube, and if you are looking for fellow tactical fans to join in enjoying this mod, we recommend Legion of Spartans.

Triplehead Ghost Recon

Posted by Rocky on Friday, April 2 2010

Everyone knows that Ghost Recon looks fantastic widescreen, but how about superwide triplehead 5040x1050 across three monitors? That's what forum member Thales100 has been trying, with great success.

GHOST RECON

Remarkably, the original (almost 10 years old) Ghost Recon supports these high resolutions and offers them as an option from the ingame settings. Thales explains..

...the most surprising maybe is that the HUD nor the reticle become stretched, no matters at which resolution or aspect ratio you run the game, that's a quite uncommon behavior for older titles, not even seen in GRAW and GRAW 2"

You can download the superwide screenshots in the forums here, and also check out these other superwide screeshots from Thales; Doom3, Quake4, Wings of Prey, Assassin's Creed 2.

Splinter Cell Conviction Co-op

Posted by Rocky on Friday, February 26 2010

Ubisoft game designer Patrick Redding speaking at Microsoft's X10 showcase has quoted Ghost Recon co-op as a major influence on the design of the latest Splinter Cell title.

a lot of my own personal feelings about co-operative play in Conviction were strongly influenced by the campaigns in Ghost Recon, Gears Of War 2 and Left 4 Dead - it's just trying to find ways to encourage players to work together without necessarily forcing them to by making them jump through the bottle neck"

But then we've always known that Ghost Recon co-op is the best!

Blood Oil Released

Posted by Rocky on Thursday, December 24 2009

Here's the second Christmas gift we have for you, and what a cracker it is. Blood Oil is a massive mod for Ghost Recon featuring a full fledged campaign with new maps, missions and much more. The lucky few who have been beta testing Blood Oil have been blown away by the quality of the content, and having seen the first map I can understand why; this mod is going down in history as one of the best ever released for Ghost Recon.

Many modders have contributed to this mod which has had a rocky road to release. It almost never saw the light of day, if it wasn't for a band of dedicated Ghost Recon modders.  So many thanks to Tinker for pulling it all together and all the contributing modders for their awesome talents and the time they put into this huge mod, eventually released after 2 years in development.

Download Blood Oil here, and read all about it in our Ghost Recon forums here.

Bonus : Although Blood Oil is a serious campaign that you can (and should) really immerse yourself in, just for laughs Tinker has created a chicken shooting quad biking challenge for anyone with Blood Oil installed. Read about it and download it here.
