firefly2442 Posted November 17, 2008 Share Posted November 17, 2008 So I was flipping around YouTube this evening and found a video for Swat 4. I haven't played Swat 4 in some time but I think it's a good game overall. There are certainly some issues with it but the overall atmosphere is fun and multiplayer is good if you get the right crowd. Swat 3 is another classic game. I tried loading it up again after playing Swat 4 but the graphics were a huge letdown. The graphical leap from Swat 3 to 4 was substantial. Going even further back, I remember a game called Swat 2. This was a top down game sort of like a strategy game. You could control individual units and tell them to fire or they would fire back when fired upon. When I think back on the design of the game, it had some serious issues. The controls were pretty hard and you never felt like you had control over the entire team. Playing as SWAT was very hard because the terrorists could kill you very easily. One interesting aspect of the game was you could play as the terrorists. Swat 2 had some great gameplay elements that made it realistic. They revolved around actual scenarios and hostage situations. I remember one was a bank heist where hostages were taken. You could use a throw phone to interact with the people inside. You could even setup snipers at set locations and give them ROE orders. After lobbing in some tear gas, storming the bank and cuffing/shooting the suspects was very rewarding. The scenarios and these realistic elements of Swat 2 made it engaging and the replay value was pretty high. Given the graphical capabilities of Swat 4, I think adding in these realistic elements would be great for a remake. What games would you like to see remade? I'll give you a couple more to think about (after rummaging through my games collection) -Homeworld (Homeworld 2 was great and I hear Relic bought the rights to the game....) -Mechcommander -Battlezone -Ground Control -Heavy Gear II -Independence War -Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns (I haven't played Kohan 2.... A new Deus Ex is in the making, though I've only seen a concept art pic (heard a lot of good about Deus Ex but never played it). - A new Fleet Command would be nice too. - The old "Aces Over..." flightsim series from Dynamix - Cinemaware's "Wings" arcade-flightsim (still one of the most totally awesome Amiga games evah!) - Spec Ops 2 was a great concept (had some pretty advanced squad command and soul switching) but horribly executed. Of course, a new Rainbow Six goes without saying as much as Ghost Recon.
