AUS_Viper
Well before the first cruise missile hit Baghdad, troopers from the Australian SAS regiment were deep inside Western Iraq. On the 18th of March 2003 the Australian government authorised the ADF to take part in coalition operations. On the 19th of March, the boys were mobile. Entry by vehicle involved breaching an earth mound and trench system to negotiate a way through the network of Iraqi border guard posts. They crossed the border without incident, but 30kms inside the forces met numerous enemy vehicles. This engagement was one of the first contacts of the war. Iraqi soldiers engaged the Australians but were overcome by the firepower, aggression and tenacity of the SAS squadron. When they surrendered, they were disarmed and the wounded were treated by SASR medics before they moved on. At the same time, US helicopters flew another SASR contingent deep inside enemy territory, over 600kms from their staging bases. At this time, the Australian SASR were the closest coalition troops to Baghdad. On the second night, the Australian SASR captured a well defended Iraqi radio relay station which reduced the Iraqi's ability to control forces in the western region. Many more contacts were experienced and "put down" over the next few days. By the end of the first week of the war, enemy opposition within the Australian area of operations was effectively neutralised and the Iraqis ceased all coordinated counter-special forces operations. And consequently, another Ghost Recon Mod was born......."Operation Falconer" Previously you played as the Australian SAS regiment in the humid tropical climate of East Timor. Now it's time to slip into a Shamag, some desert cammo and a good set of sunglasses to patrol the deserts of Western Iraq. Before you ask......this will not be an Operation Stabilise clone with desert camo. Operation Stabilise was set in 1999 where Operation Falconer is set in 2003. Expect new uniforms, new weapons, new vehicles and new enemies. Here is a few early beta shots to wet your appetite....... 3 SASR operatives. From left to right, meet the standard GR classes of Support, Rifleman and Demolition. Sniper is still on the drawing board. A glimpse of two potential specialists... RAN CDT RAAF ADG And a couple of "likely lads" that will be keeping your heads down.. Iraqi regular Republican Guard version 1 All weapons in the pictures are beta as they have not had the desert treatment yet. SASR models by Dugite, Iraqi Models by Streinger; textures by me. Stewy
Sir, Outstanding - truly a work of art - may I make some small suggestions? Not meant to be a not-pick and please ignore if you want to... * - Could the 'sheen' perhaps be taken off the glasses - I know they're the DF GR ones, and that looks great - but I think that sun reflection on them makes them look cross eyed.. * - I love the Shamaghs (you've seen the Op Falc webesite too ) Can all of the diggers be wearing either shamags/kepis? Perhaps helmets for the specialists? Just an idea. * - The cam and webbing looks great - perhaps now that the uniforms are still a work in progress (read AWESOME), could you perhaps add the Australian yoke (ie wide brown straps, three straps for the radio on your shoulder, two straps going down to the bum pack? Perhaps minimi pouches right around? Again, just an idea to get away from the 'Americanness' of GR... * - Again, this might be pie in the sky, but could the wildcat raising mounts be lowered a touch? I know they're authentic, but the GR engine has the diggers looking down a lot...perhaps could this be modified so that the digs are looking through the sights when prone - especially on the minimi? * - Just on weaps, could the 66 be collapsed in the mod, seeing as how AI don't seem to want to fire AT weaps, and the player has to do all of the shooting, could they perhaps be a bit more 'eye candy' and be folded up on the diggers back? * - Just finally, I can't remember now, but do the Aussies have brown or blue Aussie flags on their desert cams? Can't remember... AB, you're going to hate me for this post - I'm really meaning to be super-constructive and appreciative. Please feel free to ignore all of this! Truly Superb Vipes! Streinger
* - Again, this might be pie in the sky, but could the wildcat raising mounts be lowered a touch? I know they're authentic, but the GR engine has the diggers looking down a lot...perhaps could this be modified so that the digs are looking through the sights when prone - especially on the minimi? Nothing much I can do about it...lowering the scope slightly wouldn't change a thing, and lowering it as much as it would take to place it in shooter's line of sight would "sink" it right into the weapon...again, it's GR weapon motion type thing....
