46. Ghost Recon - Expected 2010

OK. We know nothing about this one, but it's a new Ghost Recon game from Ubisoft and therefore we're pretty excited about it. If the leaked name is correct, the publisher is dropping the Advanced Warfare series and going with "Predator", a title we reckon will mean gamers are in for a more action packed, high-tech weaponry shooter. First-person or third-person? It's anyone's guess at the moment. While the most recent games in the franchise have been third-person on consoles, they were first-person on the PC, and Ubi's other franchise, Rainbow Six, did very well combining the two. We're going to plump for a third-person, cover-based shooter, primarily set in the jungle, where players get to use a cloaking device. You heard it here first.

Found on the Virgin media games page today

Thanks Hammer, added to news page.

Sounds more like guesswork than anything else, I would be surprised to see a gimmick such as that in a Ghost Recon game, even if it is a technology that is currently being worked on at DARPA.

 no facts at all there, a load of wild guesses just from "the name"

if they want "a more action packed, high-tech weaponry shooter" "where players get to use a cloaking device" maybe they should just play Crysis or warhead ;)

so we say take it with a pinch of salt!

A pinch!, I think you need this much salt for that "news" :P

I think that I am more comfortable having future tech or at least near future tech in Ghost Recon then some here in this community.

But make that future tech not fantasy tech. Let's hope that they are completely wrong on this one.

Because in the next GR installment, you're not an "AstroWarrior" (whatever one of those is), you're a Space Marine. You get to wear thick armoUred suits, simply known as 'power armour'. The armoUr is restrictive towards manOeuvrability, and for this reason, there is no jumping in the game.It also means that they don't have to incorporate a limping animation for when you're wounded. Of course, if choose to have a 'Scout' specialist on your team, he will forgo the amoUr for a cloaking device. On the weapons front expect plasma weapons, flamethrowers, standard issue carbines that fire something like .75 calibRE explosive rounds, and of course melee weapons that can cut through armoUr as if it was flesh.

Dead Space style abominations will be the enemies in the next GR installation.

I could be way off the mark here, I'm drawing my conclusions from what I've seen happen to the GR series. :D

If that's the yardstick then the next installment of Ghost Recon will replace player-controlled movement with on-rails progression and "cinematic effects". Also, gameplay will be interrupted every three minutes by cutscenes. Unskippable cutscenes, that is.

Sigh

That's after the 10 minute long unskippable mission intro cutscene mind you (and the five minute long unskippable game intro) telling the team where to go and what to do, because even though they're *supposedly* SF, they don't know what to do or where to go.

Kind of sad really

I do remember the old RED STORM when guys like Gary Stelmack, Joe Sauder, MR. Sonedecker and others

used to come to their forums and sometimes here too and chat about their games this new RS I don't even know

ho works there anymore they are very succesfull with their console games tough, thinking of I don't blame them

if they don't even chat with the community anymore because the first questions that most of us are we going to ask

is why they remove or added this/that etc

Maybe they wolud like to give us a great game but sadly that kind of game don't sell well and UBI

wan't revenue of their investment if not some of those guys @ Red Storm are going to loose their jobs

Why does EVERYONE hate the new game....... this is a Ghost Recon forum and the only thing anyone is doing is talkin crap about how Ghost Recon:Predator sounds like a space game......... The definition of predator is :One that victimizes, plunders, or destroys, especially for one's own gain. Thats only one of the definitions but even the others have no hint of space or intergallactic warfare. I think we should just keep quiet about it until more news is released then if it is spacewar we just wont buy it.........

Your accounting for 20,000 members?

I respectfully place myself out of the EVERYONE part.

Thanks. Little help here...the definition of a forum is?

There is absolutely nothing to be glad at -or conversely amused over- more of the same content that Ubi has been shoveling out recently which, judging solely by the speculative title alone, is exactly what we can expect... that is whenever they decide to let us in on any news of its content or of its release.

Happy now? I have just broke my New Years Resolution. ;)

Why does EVERYONE hate the new game.......

Not everyone I can assure you. It's normal for the haters to be more vocal than the more, shall we say, "optimistic" members ;)

There are reasons to be cheerful (Go RSE!!), okay they might be hanging by a thread, but we haven't got much to go on so that gives the haters lot's to speculate on.

That's a situation that Ubisoft has allowed to happen though because there's virtually a news blackout on GR4 and that's something that's always frustrated GR fans.

There's no chance people are going to stay quiet until solid news comes out, we just love to pitch our tents either side of the optimism line and throw snowballs at each other.

we should be glad a new GR game is finally coming out......

That's the way I try to look at it too, anything else is bad for the karma.

Here is my take on this. Give Ubi's recent track record, when one sees what is presumably the title of the new game, one has to wonder what the game will be like. When Rainbow Six got Ali G camouflage and Captain America balaclavas people are really skeptical that a game like Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will bring back old gameplay.

I equate the FS title to equal the AW part of the franchise, more future BS that is not wanted, but again, I may be wrong. As Rocky said, Ubi allows such hatred to fester among the doubters (not that I am hating the game, just the name mind you) due to their long standing history of not giving up any information about the development unlike other more popular games and studios.

Until Ubi releases more information about the game, there will be much speculation as to what the game will be like and even then, there will be speculation until someone actually plays the game. Many will wait until someone trusted tries the game out first and not the gaming review sites (who more and more are being bought off or bribed).
