Thief = Pure Classic

(I own em both :D )

I never did play the sequel. I did, however, reinstall the original earlier this year and played through it again for some fun.

How many times have you been on a map and marvelled at the fact that you just lit up some guys with full-auto fire and grenades, yet some guys 100 meters away didn't hear all the noise?

It's a pity that this happens. Maybe RSE will listen now...

They should allow stealth ratings. How do those actually work?

Well, well this little lot realy has run & run ... maybe Rocky or someone could round up a "virtual" shortlist of decent suggestions from these, then we put it to a poll/vote of "virtual" next upgrade.

Print the little fella and mail it to Ubi.

Job Done.

Great Site! I was moved so much I just joined up! ;)

Alot of the set piece battles, such as armor on armor, or force on force could be added or shown more in detail for a sequel. I had so wanted more tank action (ie M1-A2's blasting T-64's & T-72'S!) hell maybe some RAH-66's showing up for some CAS. That aside, more realistic enemy AI (GR's is damned good now) could be added.

New theatre of operations: DPRK forces invading South Korea? Been done before, but hey something's going to give over there. That or a new Arab-Israeli conflict. Hmmmm.....

Mostly just some minor tweaks, better graphics....allow the men in your squad to "hold" their position while you go take a look (like SOAF has) and the ability for you to issue a direct order to the men on your flank to perform an action. But they all have to be smarter too! No chucking a grenade into a room while the guy has his whole body exposed to tangos inside.

There's my two pence!

Good idea for a tank sim, but in the essence of Spec Ops, they go in with what they can carry and that is it.

Most SOF teams go in to help people really and most spec ops are PSYOPS type operations, a tank would not fit in the scheme of things unfortunatly.

True, Knight! But there still was a bit of the "window-dressing" delights of seeing a major engagement going on around you in the Vilnius mission. RSE could've had put more of the T stuff than just a couple of BMP's. You are correct the nature of the missions and with SpecOps in general has not much to do with armored assaults. Still, it would be nice.

Environment is key:

The main thing or even the only thing I think they should work on that would make a great GR2 is the environment. The environment would incorporate what many people are saying if UBI worked hard on it. Really I think the AI wouldn't be as much of an issue if you COULD run into any building and if the door wouldn't open then blow a hole in the wall. I don't know if anyone here has played Red Faction 2 but it's great. You can blow up just about anything: walls, doors, boxes, the ground, vehicles and even people. It would be very hard to make an engine like that for GR2 but there could be other ways to get gamers hooked via the environment without too much chane to the engine.

Objects add to this:

You could do things like create more randomness to maps, make the craters or holes in the ground random and same for the location of trees. This would make it nearly impossible for gamers to memorize perfect sniping spots or a glitchy spot to hide in the terrain. Both of these would be extremely hard to do, I realize this.

If all else fails keep it simple:

So they could keep it simple and do things like add more grass and bushes to the levels. Even if there is an area with large sloping hills, I doubt that there would be no visible grass. I'm not saying add huge amounts of long grass everywhere, but mixed amounts of grass with different heights, the same goes for bushes. I think they've done a pretty good job with forests, and in real life I think it would be hard to hide IN a bush as they usually have most of there branches in the center.

Too many choices, focus on the right things:

There are many things you can do with a games environment. The reason my focus is on this, is because I find almost all games very empty right now. Take the embassy for an example, in a city like that there would be debris, garbage, people hiding behind things, puddles, bodies. I just find this one of the levels with almost nothing in it. You can expect there to be little resistance except in hot pockets in levels with forests because there are so many open areas. In an urban area there should be lots of things to interact with and hide behind. Besides cars and walls there isn't really.

Weapons

I don't know about picking up enemy weapons and using them, but I do think you should be able to drop your own weapon (not on purpose of course). Do you think if your blown away or killed by an explosion (grenade or otherwise) you're going to hang onto your gun? I don't and I think this is the same even if you get shot in key areas. I think things like guns, ammor and grenades without the pin pulled should become part of the environment.

Gameplay vs. Environment in GR:

Everyone that views this post will, or probably agrees that Ghost Recon's gameplay is excellent. I don't know that I can say the same for the levels and environment effect. Yes they are very realistic and have a good green color scheme like they should, but I think if UBI wants to make GR2 a huge hit and a game to remember they should spend the time to ensure that this is true.

End Statement:

I just hope that whatever they decide to do, they keep us hardcore gamers in mind, because even if we don't make up the majority of sales....We are the ones who keep the communities running and the popularity up.

Weapon jams and having to clear them.

i was playing GR on xbox and my weopon games. it was the SVD sniper rifle. it wouldnt fire so i had to change to my pistol for a while and shot some heads off. then i changed back the the rifle and it still wouldnt shoot. so i kept pulling the trigger and finally it shot. might be a glitch or might be jammed

i think that you should be able to do some D&D:NWN type things where you can create custom soldiers:

GENDER:

FEMALE/MALE

NATIONALITY:

IF YOU ARE GOING ON A MISSION IN MOGADISHU(SP), A SOMALIAN SPECIALIST WOULD BENEFIT, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE TERRAIN BETTER. BUT IF YOU SEND THAT SOMALIAN SPECIALIST TO RUSSIA HE WOULD NOT BE AS ACCURATE/POWERFUL

CLASS:

YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS

FEATS/SKILLS:

PICK LOCKS, DUAL WEAPONS, FIX JAMS, HEAVY ARMOR PROFICIENCY, ASSAULT RIFLE PROFICIENCY, ETC.

ALIGNMENT:

HOW YOUR SOLDIER BEHAVES IN A SET ENVIRONMENT, ON A SCALE FROM INFILTRATOR(SLOW, STEALTHY) TO COMMANDO(FAST, GUNS BLAZING)

PACKAGES:

GO FURTHER INTO THE CLASS. ie:IF YOUR CLASS IS DEMO, YOUR PACKAGES WOULD BE:

DEMO,ANTI-TANK(USES AN AT RIFLE AND LAND MINES)

DEMO, DEMOLITIONS(USES LASER RANGEFINDER AND DEMO CHARGES)

DEMO,HEAVY WEAPONS(USES GLs AND NAPALM LAUNCHERS, ETC)

AND THEN YOU CAN CUSTOMISE UNIFORMS AND CAMO AND HAIR AND TATTOOS & STUFF

...oh, damn, its all in caps...

@Col. Hapablap:

Agree plus running walking slower wehn climbing on a slope or hill and moving faster when going downhill.

@Major Maximum:

Think of Jagged Aliance 2 that RPG element is superb like the whole game i`ve been playing it for 4 days now and it is VERY REALISTIC AND COMPLEX.

Some of the features JA2 has should be incorporated in GR2

- In real life u don't pick up enemy-ammo, because:

1) u have enough for yourself,

2) it's most likely a different kind of ammo

@San, I beg to differ:

SR-47 rifle was developed exactly for that reason; an operative cannot always carry enough ammo, especially in a situation like Afgan cave fire-fights. SR-47 (as you may or may not know) is modyfied M4 SOPMOD rifle, that uses not only 7,62x39mm (AK-47) type ammo, it's even designed to utilize AK-47 type ammo clip. That way, every Tango taken out is a potential source of spare ammo..(about 80% of them are armed with AK-47)

It's possible that you might be up against an enemy which is armed with a weapon that utilizes M-16 ammo and clip...like SAR-80, Tavor Tav-21, CZ M-80...

No hard feelings, but as an ex-soldier with 5 years of full-scale war expirience behind me, I can tell you that in "real life", as you put it, you do pick up your fallen commarade's ammo and wep, you pick up fallen enemy's ammo as well (if of the same type), and even if not, you still disarm the bodys so the enemy wouldn't pick up that ammo and weapons...all this provided that the situation alows you to do so, of course...

I haven't read the past 5 pages (no time) but I will say this... I will be FURIOUS if they change the GR engine. It'd be BEYOND stupid to do so.. EXPECIALLY to the Unreal Engine.

Mostly because this defeats what GR is, and it screws up modding. :wall:

Well, I certainly hope they come up with something better than this dated crap :P

Seriously though, all sequels should have updated engines, otherwise it's just a fancy add-on. RSE also need to move on - as I said earlier, 40% of the GR engine is from Rogue Spear. They're obviously proud of the engine, but it's time they at least make something new rather than just revamping the same-old, same-old.

That doesn't necessarily mean licensing an engine (like the Unreal one), but "simply" making a new one.

and it screws up modding.
Isn't modding a lot easier with the Unreal engine anyway? :rolleyes: (Or if not 'easier', then at least more flexible. You can barely mod anything in GR.)
