Aack
I'm just curious how many other peeps use voice comms and what programs you've used. Personally, I love voice comms... so much more effective and efficient than typin. Been an avid battlecom user for years now.
Killa_N_Manila
I'm sure Nightcrawler will tell you that Teamspeak is the best out there. I also use it and it has been the most dependable. I've used BattleCom and VirtualTalker and Teamspeak is much more reliable, requires lower bandwidth, and is the best sounding.
Crimson
Im not sure about your average pick-up game, but most clans out there use some sort of comms. So far, the one Ive seen used the most is TeamSpeak v1.5.0.6.
Havok
used to use wilco but too many problems with it and g.r. is teamspeak free software ? sick of talking three way on the phone ha

XRW_Hotdog
all our team has used for the last 9 months is team speak 1.5 and we love it. low bandwidth and as long as all team mates use a decent headset there is no feedback.
snakebite1967
ive used a few diferent ones over the years and finaly settled on teamspeak seems to be a solid little prog
SOTOMac
I'd have to add My Vote for COMMs as Team Speak as well. I'm 56K and Its been the best COMM Program I've used Yet. Sincerely,
NightCrawler
Do your homework TeamSpeak is the best for the $ on the market. Bar none. Try it if you don't agree, it won't cost you a dime, and only about 15 min of your time.
Killa_N_Manila
Stormcrow is right...v2 of teamspeak isn't very friendly. Friends who I play with use that version and when I use it, it's more choppy harder to discern your teammates voices. Stick with v1.5 although I don't think its offered on teamspeak.org anymore. NightCrawler
If you have trouble finding TS 1.5, PM me I'll give you a site where you can get it.
Aack
wow... a definate advertisement for TS... i'll be sure to grab a new version and test it out... the previous versions we've played with had horrid sound quality... worse than RW... we've stuck with BattleCom for three reasons: 1- $ (free) 2- Sound quality at Echo compression is excellent 3- Multiple channels on a single server as for RW... always said it's like talking through toilets... and no channel support... Kamakazi
I have to agree with mac because I also have a 56k modem and TS uses less bacdwidth and I need all I can get Also Ive tried other ones like RW and BC but TS (to many abbreviations) seems to be clearer in the sound aspects
Killa_N_Manila
What are yalls voice comm setups i.e. table mic, headset, etc.? Right now I have a Altec Lansing headset that works pretty well...I can't remember the cost, but I'm thinkin of getting a new one cause I stepped on this one and its a difficult keeping it adjusted to my liking... XRW_Hotdog
right no i am using a table mic and walkman headphones. my mic on my MS headset crapped out, need to wait till friday to pick up a new one. my personal preference is the headset though. you can hear everything in the game very clear with no feedback while on TS. ~NkOgNiTo~
i agree , TS is nice i have used RW and MSN Sidewinder but it dosent support XP(or didnt a month or so ago) have been using the regular voice option on msn messenger 5.0, but we started using TS on feyd's server and i have to say it is the best by far that i have used. Kiff
So, it seems that most people are using headsets, or at least a majority are. How easy is it to switch back and forth between a headset and your regular speakers?
Aack
I have my normal PC speakers running and wear a headset mic. It took a bit of fiddling, but the sound from the speakers does not normally come across on the mic (or at least nobody has told me that it does). flybar
Another thumbs up for TS from me. Ive been using TS for nearly a year now and cant really fault it for its price. I'm in the camp with the other guys that say V2 isnt as good. Our clan (16 members) tried upgrading to V2 and we had no end of configuration/soundcard problems, so we all stuck with v1.5.0.6 (they may have sorted some of those early V2 problems by now, but just havent found a good enough reason to upgrade.) We tried many other comms s/w to start and nothing could compare to the low bandwidth, easy configuration and high sound quality of TS. P.S - I seem to remember that TS guys have archives of all the versions (that may have changed now.. but worth trawling their site) Edited January 14, 2003 by flybar
Kiff
I have my normal PC speakers running and wear a headset mic. Say Aack, your headset has speakers, right? How do you hook the headset and speakers up to your soundcard at the same time?
~NkOgNiTo~
if u look on the back most comps have both headset and spkr jacks, mine has both on back plus on my speakers, plus on the front....hell if anyone needs a place to plug theirs in let me know!!! we'll get an extension cord and hook you up!!! .........or u can just go to the dollar store and get a splitter..... John_Pain
TeamSpeak is the best IMO
Killa_N_Manila
I have my speakers on a digital output. I simply turn that off and the sound runs through my headphones. It sounds better on 4 speaker mode, than on headset mode so thats how I do it. Pretty simple imo.
