  1. I've never liked TDM as a gametype anyway, I much prefer some sort of team objective. I guess if I decide to give this game a try (still undecided) I will be playing Search and Destroy then.
  2. It's quite fast-paced isn't it? Not as bad as I'd feared, though... I think you could play carefully if you chose to. Nice looking map!
  3. I've been getting the same error, irregularly since the game came out. It drives me nuts! In game, with a ping of around 80, everything is smooth and hassle free... as soon as a new round starts or the map changes, there is a 50/50 chance of this happening to me. The really weird thing is that other people I play with tell me that I'm getting booted for "altered game files" but I get a message about connection timeouts.
  4. Let me start off by saying that I personlly love GRAW2, I'm enjoying it thoroughly. However, I don't think it's perfect, especially in terms of immerssion. I recently found myself in the position of standing in a computer shop while my wife bought an iPod. Through sheer boredom (buying exactly what you intended to buy apparently takes some time), I browsed the PC games section and found a copy of Red Orchestra. I'd heard of this game and thought it might be something to fiddle with while waiting for some local GRAW 2 servers to arrive. Strangely, this (old) game has made me realize where immersion falls short in GRAW 2. In a nutshell: the sounds and visuals that you exeprience while under fire do nothing to make you FEEL in danger. The graphics and tactical command abilites (and overall sound) in GRAW 2 are far superior to what Red Orchestra offers.... and yet. .. the gameplay of RO is more immersive. Not only do you actually "feel" getting hit, but you "feel" bullets that come close to you, in that the screen blurs a bit and you can't do much for a second or two. The ballistics models in OR also made me realize another thing: while both games can result in "1 shot kills", GRAW2 has very quick gunfights in comparison. This actually detracts from the immersion of the game, since fights are over before you actually have a chance to appreciate them. In short, the aiming system of GRAW2 makes it too easy to hit someone. When was the last time you had a 3 minute gunfight with one single enemy in GRAW2? For me, the quickest way to improve GRAW 2 is to add something that makes you actually "feel" the danger of taking fire.... and make the gunfights last longer. One shot kills are perfect, just make it harder to GET that one shot.
  5. Indeed. I reckon a huge percentage of the "problems" with GRAW2, especially with SP, are due to the poor manual. Hell, I learned more about how the AI behave and what tools are available to you, right here on this forum than I did from the manual (thanks Bo and other GRIN devs ). It can't be that hard to flesh out the manual, and give some advice on how to use all your command options, surely?
  6. Yes, I do have the game for myself, and Campaign COOP is in. The reviewer got it wrong.
  7. The enemy AI on hardcore level does display unbelievable accuracy, and completely unbelievable "reaction times." The first few times I tried COOP I actually thought I was dying because my weapon had blown up when I fired it... it didn't seem possible that the AI could have heard my gunfire, looked for me, found me and shot me in 0.05 seconds. Overall, I like the AI... but I really wish SOMEONE would design an enemy AI where "hardcore" meant their tactical ability was really good, rather than just astounding accuracy and reaction times. I'm happy with the way the game has moved forward in so many areas, and I understand that AI is really hard to get right.... but this one simple ideal is surely worth aiming for: ---increased difficuly level for a "tactical shooter" should mean that the enemy AI has better tactical abilities while retaining human-like accuracy and reaction times. Edit: this is NOT a dig at GRIN or GRAW2, but gaming in general. I love this game, and am very happy with my purchase. After reading Rocky's comments and thinking about them and my [GR] experiences, though, it is clear that enemy AI has not progressed realistically in the last 5-6 years. I'm just stating what I personally believe is the "holy grail of enemy AI" to aim towards.
  8. Personally, I'm loving it. There are some bugs (just like every game) and some things which could be improved on (just like any game).... but the overall package was well worth the money. Good job GRIN, and I can't wait to see what you guys fix/add in the coming patches.
  9. Aaah, I know that name ... if my memory serves me correctly, he was an avid [GR] player. And thanks for the server name, you might very well bump into a brand new target soon.
  10. Which server is that? I live in South Africa and haven't been brave enough to try any international servers... I just assumed the lag would suck.
  11. Yeah, I've had this bug crop up from time to time. Sometimes it can be fixed by issuing the cover command directly from the "camera view"... other times the AI buddy will revert back to pointing the wrong way as soon as I press G to remove the camera view.
  12. Doesn't the COOP (not Campaign COOP) do this already, or am I misunderstanding your point?
  13. I'm loving the SP too. Not sure about the Mule, to be honest... I kind of forgot it was there! But, I spent about 2.5 hours completeing mission 2 on Hardcore (no reloads) - not necessary, I know, but I play this as if my life depended on it, and it's awesome! I know some people prefer quicker gameplay etc, but for me this game has been amazingly good so far. The new ROE and crosscom orders add to the game like you would not believe, if you actually use them MP maps seem a lot better than GRAW 1 in that they offer more variety in how you "handle" them. Careful gameplay can benefit you now, as long as the server doesn't have a silly timeframe set. Good stuff The COOP is great... although I do think Colin's suggestions in that other thread are VERY valid. Good job GRIN, much improved over GRAW 1., and an awesome way to spend your free hours
  14. I guess people have different tastes - this is a vast improvement over GRAW 1 for me. Yes, there are some issues... but I'm very pleased with my purchase and am looking forward to endless hours of decent MP.
  15. This is quite amazing... what possible BENEFIT could there be to this ban... for Ubisoft, Grin or the fanbase? Cutting off communication like this can ONLY have negative consequences. Ubisoft, please reconsider... your sales can only benefit from having the developers and the fans chatting with each other!
  16. I have also been "fiddling" around with the demo mission, trying every possible approach.... not just different routes, but everything from full on assault to full on stealth. I love it! I guess it does depend on what you expect from a tactical game, but I sort of expect a 4 man team of "ghosts" to try and do everything possible to avoid unneccesary contact. I also expect to be able to manoever my team around to my heart's content. GRAW2 allows me to do both (at least the demo does). I'm also one of those weird people who enjoys the process more than the outcome, so the freedom to try different things means more to me than the overall difficulty of the mission, or how linear things are. Having said that, random enemy placement and/or patrol routes would be awesome. One thing I've noticed is that the enemy AI reacts VERY differently each time I've played it. I've been flanked, I've watched them come running from all over the map on the tac map, I've been hunted down amongst the buildings... and then I've seen them be completely passive, or just go into hiding. Not sure how the AI responses work out to be honest, but I've enjoyed the variety a lot. This game gets my approval! I can see myself having many hours of serious fun, even if there are improvements which could be made. Good job Grin!!
  17. Two things struck me about the review. First, he says the sound is poor. I've been impressed by the sound, personally. Second, the reviewer says " For all its prettiness, it's boring". I obviously haven't played the full game, and I guess people do enjoy different things, but I've rather enjoyed the gameplay and "squad management". I can't really agree or disagree with the review, but I think I might enjoy a different style of game to the reviewer.
  18. Thanks for posting these videos - I'm one of the poor dudes unable to download the SP demo (in my country, we have a 3GB per month bandwidth usage limit) and I've been waiting for some video footage. It looks good, and I can't wait for the full version to come out!
  19. I can't speak for all the COOP players, but for me TvT has 2 major drawbacks: (1) First, public TvT servers suck (in terms of what I want from gaming) - the "mentality" is different, lots of trashtalking - the focus is on BEATING the other player(s), rather than on the gameplay experience etc etc (2) For the most part, COOP players prefer a slower paced game. I like playing maps that last for up to an hour, with no respawns. Hard to find TvT games which last that long. Finally, for me, the appeal of COOP is the chance to play in a "military sim" type of environment with a bunch of people who are more into completeing the mission than aquiring personal kills. Its the whole process of the gameplay, rather than anything else. Note: there is nothing wrong with TvT type games... they just don't "do it" for me.
  20. Some guy lying on the side of a "rubber duck" type insertion boat?
  21. I must say I'm extremely keen on seeing this game that John and HF are talking about. And... what a pleasure to read HF's posts - extremely well thought out and based on real-world experience.
  22. John, I know you can't really give us much info at this point, but one thing I'm quite curious about: is your approach going to be one of maps with a fixed size (like [GR]/GRAW) or a completely open, move anywhere-you-want type approach (like OFP) ?
  23. Hmmm... something must be wrong, because I usually look for muzzle flashes to find the source of incoming fire, and it works pretty well.
  24. Year. The way Ubi is carpet bombing the Clancy products you'll most likely see ANOTHER GR, after GRAW2, title before this one. I hope that doesn't scare anyone off. -John As long as we don't have to wait a year for more little hints The little you have shown us looks very intriguing indeed, can't wait to see what the whole thing is about!
