calius
(posted here as the GDC forum I assume are only for threads of the actual competitions and winners/runners up etc) Many moons ago i started to try a design of the banner and a few here have created a few of them. I was wondering if Rocky/Ronin would entertain a GDC Gr.net banner competition? Not sure just one banner but maybe 2 like GR1 and GR2 & GRAW .. so 3 entries covering all 3 versions. Maybe areas such as Desert / Jungle / Urban etc. This in a way could link to a logo design too as in the banner also incorperates a logo so you get kind of 2 GDC's in one. Then the winner actualy the gets used for the main banner (a great prize for a GDC) and a fresh look to gr.net. Or 3 winners for gr1 / gr2 / graw each used for the tabs in news section. May seem quite a lot I guess for 3 winners and 3 different games ... maybe even a banner that incorprates a decent new logo & a clever way to cover all the generations of Ghost Recon in 1 banner thus 1 winner etc etc. Just an idea ... I will shut up now
the.ronin
Spooky. I was literally just thinking about this yesterday. Indeed, in my own opinion, a new GR.net look is in order ... but that is ultimately a decision up to the Rockmonster, as Dan would call him. I also like the idea of a set of banners. I will PM the Grand Poobah shortly.
the.ronin
Well, the Rockmonster has spoken and we have gotten the green light ... provided that everyone accepts no gaurantees of the winning set of banners actually being used. Not sure if this will be the theme of GDC VII ... aside from having to iron out some details on this type of a project, I'm thinking something a bit more comical is in order. Based on RatoN's funny find, easter eggs perhaps? ...
calius
That is spooky, yeh no worries when, its your area mate. Should be a fair few entries for that one as a few have tried things over time.
Rocky
I am notoriously picky about banner images for here and agr-s, so the winner is not gauranteed a spot at the top of every page at GR.net. BUT if it IS selected to replace the current banner, there will be a "real" prize for the winner. I have it here. It is VERY cool, and VERY desirable. That's all I am saying, can't wait to see what you come up with

calius
I think it will be the next GDC (check with Ronin) the current one is the easter egg theme. This I actualy posted under the other design section as a simple question (because I though it may confuse being mixed with actual running GDC threads) but it was moved here, guess it is on topic so thats why its here, but just as a discussion / reply to what I asked as a possibility. Yup ... this will be the next GDC ... so basically, everyone that reads this and plans on participating has a two week head start! Don't worry, I'll compensate with a very high minimum point hurdle. Sup
I figured I'd go ahead and join, and spent a few minutes getting an early start this morning. The background/text are almost certainly temporary. http://i1.tinypic.com/mli0k5.gif

squad_e
I may kick this GR.net banner GDC up a notch and allow Flash entries ... ← Won't be very fair on people who don't use flash ... I know it would look cool & make the site look like the daddy ... But it would be better if you made a (flash)GDC seperate.. Seasonal Banners are always fun I.E Guy fawks, X-mas banner & Halloween etc... @ whisper_44 where did u get that font?..
SteelHack
ok...do I need to figure out flash over the next week or not??? HACK
the.ronin
Ok ... GB brings up a good point. I may or may not allow Flash (most likely not) ... but either way, it will NOT be a Flash-only GDC. Entries will be required to include a banner for each of general, GR1, GR2, and GR3 ... whether that includes new button links (News, Recon, Forums, etc.) remains to be seen. Oh the suspense! pz3
i can do some mean gifs, does that count? can the image be segmented as well for web design?
the.ronin
i can do some mean gifs, does that count? can the image be segmented as well for web design? ← The banner GDC will definitely allow all manner of static images (jpg, gif, etc) ... whether I will allow Flash as well remains to be seen. By segmented do you mean sliced up? The entries should be one full image or four separate images (General, GR, GR2, GR:AW) ... think of them as "comps" in pro design speak. Should your images be chosen to be used on the website - remember, no gaurantee that ANY entries will be chosen - then you can go ahead and chop them up to your hearts content. Specific rules and guidelines will be ironed out as the actual contest draws near.
pz3
well what i ment by that is so i can make an animated gif, without making the file sizes overly large, so some parts would be static and others animated. but combined it should look nice with low file sizes
