Rocky
AMD-based architecture of Sony’s upcoming console means it makes more sense to develop for the PC first and then port easily to the PS4 and presumably the next Xbox Ubisoft has revealed that the lead platform for upcoming next-gen sandbox game Watch Dogs isn’t the PlayStation 4. Then again, it isn’t the next generation Xbox either. It’s the PC. Speaking with Dutch site Insider Gamer, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that the company was using the PC as the lead platform for developing Watch Dogs. The reason? Unlike this generation where it developed games for the Xbox 360 and then ported them over to the PS3, the AMD-based architecture of the PS4 means it makes more sense to develop for the PC and then port it over. Whether he is hinting that the next Xbox will again have a PC-like architecture or not is unclear. However, from Ubisoft’s perspective, the company is expecting a lot less problems porting gaming to and from the PS3. “We expect fewer problems with porting games to the PS4 than the PS3, which had a completely different infrastructure,” said Guillemot. “Previously, we developed games first on the Xbox 360 and then translated them onto the PS3. It took a lot of time and money to port.” Could this be a sign of things to come......?
Blame
PC as the lead platform? Funny how they released the PC version of GR:FS the last.

Parabellum
To borrow from the online fanboy vernacular, lulz. There's no substance to UBI's claims. There never is.
101459
While I think Ubisoft may finally 'get it' with respect to the bottom line of developing for Consoles not being the panacea it looked like it was going to be just three years ago, and Steam eating everyone's lunch at cash register -- it seems very unlikely this company will ever leave game development to the Developers, and even more unlikely (and importantly) that they'll ever establish an effective relationship with PC Gamers -- there's just too many hands and way too many bloated egos in the way pushing absurd, costly ideas of 'narrative' and 'high art' at the cost of fun, effective Customer support, and profitability. As well, even EA (last year's Golden Turd Award winner) 'promised' the PC would be the 'lead platform' (same BS boilerplate meaningless marketing jargon) for Battlefield 3 -- which turned out just like many other EA and Ubisoft marketing scams to be little more then a cleverly worded marketing maneuver, which was lubriciously apologized for on the laugh-stroll to the bank as they were vouch safe in their rip-off lie by virtue of the click and accept license that denies the Consumer all rights of ownership for his remittance; 'fair use' is satisfied in most jurisdictions now by meaning you were allowed to carry the game package home, or accept delivery of it electronically or by post -- nothing else is guaranteed, warranted, or promised... Have fun opening and closing the DVD box of your next 'lead platform' PC game from Ubisoft -- it may be all that works... pz3
This makes since. You develop on the pc for every platform virtually making the PC the lead system to design for as the rest can be developed at the same time. This wasn't always the case for console games back in the day. Everyone wanted to use their own graphics engines and software but technology is molding them all closer together as a single architecture. Make it for PC you make it for xbox thanks to "games for windows". Playstation just needed to get on board. Games will still have that "console" feel to them but you can expect most every title to come to PC. With exception to the marketing ploys to get people to buy Xbox or Playstation (i.e. metal gear solid).
WytchDokta
Ubisoft say PC is lead platform? I say pigs can fly.

From what I gather the new PS4 is much more like a PC, so creating their games on PC's first, it should be an easy port to the PS3. Sounds good for us PC fans, really good.
