If you do know where we can get a "higher-end" card, pls lead the way ← Amazing, I was just running some tests, and that's my card. Okay, here's my current system specs: Athlon64 Winchester @ 2.56 GHZ 2GB System Memory @ DDR513 3-4-4-8 6600GT 128MB Drivers 84.21 Creative X-Fi I'm enjoying the game a great deal in SP. In fact, I can't believe that I'm actually going to play this game through to the end on SP. I don't normally play SP. I haven't played MP yet, so I will comment on that later. I used FRAPS. This is with the auto-detect and no render_settings tweaks: @ 1024x768 with 16X anisotropic filtering - 25-30 f/s @ 1024x768 with 4X anisotropic filtering - 25-30 f/s (surprise, surprise, 16x AS made no noticable difference) @ 800x768 with 4X anisotropic filtering - 35-45 f/s And the following is the result after using the "texture managed" tweak for systems with 2GB of system memory where all "texture managed" settings are set to true: @ 1024x768 with 16X anisotropic filtering - 28-35 f/s EDIT: Check Post #20 -- numbers have gone up significantly. I hope this is of some interest.
Aaronson
With a 128 card you pretty much have to use Low textures from what i'v hurd since medium textures eat up 256mb worth of video memory. You can get your quality back up using Antisotropic like dude above to get some image quality back up. The main thing to get your frames up besides in-game settings is using rivatuner of coolbits to set your Vsync always off, and Pre-render limit to 0. chiles4
BabyDave, as you probably know, it's your 6600GT that's holding you way back. I just had one about 6 months ago and loved it. IQ in Chaos Theory was awesome. Frames weren't that great but they weren't nearly as important as they are in a game like GR. You might want to try the Texture Management tweak since you have 2GB. GDD_Viper
i have the same video card (and 2 GB of ram) and i run effects on high and texture on medium and the game runs well on 1024x768. I dont know how to get FPS so im not sure the exact number. My problem with MP is that is a fast paced setting with a slow paced game, but it runs about the same in MP. babydave
viper you can download a small program called fraps which will tell you your fps, would be cool if you could post it up here http://www.fraps.com/

Lightspeed
someone made the comment that it is the video card holding you back - i am inclined to disagree. my system- amd 3200xp 480w antec true power 6800gts 512 ram 2 gig ddr3200 sound blaster audigy i have tried every tweak in the book, and as far as im concerned, i feel that either the demo is poorly optimised or locked performance. i cannot break 35 fps and avg 22-
Cpl Ledanek
@chiles4, thats what this topic is about. Ppl with 6600GT. We're uniting to see/to gather attention and bring up the fact that there's many of us that are on the lower end of the spec requirement of GRAW. That we are buyers/customers too. We're in hope that GRIN we'll read our post and hopefully include us in any plans for future patche(s). chiles4 if you know any tricks on Texture Management please share with us. If anything, I see this thread as indicating that people can play with what is currently a low-end gaming card.

babydave
i disagree too lightspeed a 6600GT should be adequate to play any game released today. you have what should be a fairly superior card to ours given the extra ram and pipelines etc yet you're only getting 3 fps more than me on average - its not logical. i still believe that the problem lies within the diesel engine and that it can be corrected/improved by grin if given the time... Okay, first, the 6600GT was midrange 18 months ago when it was released. It was a good card when I bought it, but I'm not upset that it will only run a high-end game released 18 months later at higher than 1024x768 at comfortable resolutions. 1024 x 768 is high enough for an 18 months old midrange card. Also, as far as 3 f/s more goes, I'm running with a 6600GT at 800x600 and spend most of my time between 40-45 f/s. My system is wired tight. My settings are tweaked. If I had the 6800GTS-512MB that Lightspeed has, I'm sure I'd be running quite a bit faster than I am.

Logos
yeah if i turn it down to 800x600 i get better fps but it looks like a dogs dinner. That's the problem, then. You're expecting an 18 month old midrange card to run a new high-end game at high resolutions. Your expectations are too high. As for me, I'm playing MP mostly, and for MP, I don't care. For SP, I'll up the res. And I actually just turned off VSync and set pre-render limit to 2, and I'm floating between 50-60. I never dipped below 40, and I climbed above 70 a couple of times. That's better than I hoped.
Cpl Ledanek
I've been avg accdg to FRAPS 16-17fps at 1024x748@75 with Auto-detect. It runs smooth and it has yet to bother my eyes. Post Effect was at medium. I haven't change the xml to "false" to remove it from my SLI 6600 GT 128MB 1GB XMS 3200 I'll try tomorrow with the Post Effect @ "false" and see if my fps can go higher. Again this is the demo, not the Retail version (on-going proposition)

Logos
changing all the texture mangaged settings to true can you show us on how you did it please. I've seen mine go above 17fps accdg to FRAPS. Remember, this tweak is for IF you have 2GB of system memory. Apparently, it either doesn't work or makes things worse with 1GB. I don't know about 1.5GB. It's in the render_settings.xml file. Edit with Notepad. The first 7 render settings are: aspect_ratio brightness dynamic_lights effect_quality max_anisotropy post_effect_quality shadow_quality After that, there's a boatload of texture_managed settings. This is what you're looking for. Most of them will be false. Edit them ALL to True and save. That's it. My texture_managed are all true, as well. I didn't do a pre-FRAPS/post-FRAPS, though, so I don't know what the actual improvement was. BTW, for anyone who is interested, I ran some tests last night on anisotropic at 4X vs. 16x, and at both 800x600 and 1024x768, the difference was only 2-3 f/s. That makes no difference to someone at 60 f/s, but for someone at 20 f/s with AS turned up, it might.
