  1. Thanks for all the hard work GRIN, it looks like a great game so far, altough the demo's a bit short to know for sure (I had to find something to complain about ). Enjoy your holiday.
  2. It also looks to have a good bit of bumpmapping or whatever that newer version of it is called (lightmapping ?) .
  3. I already said the images were uncompressed. Don't mean to be argumentative but there are noticeable compression artifacts in the images (look around the text under the way point marker for example). I've no idea what kind of affect that'd have on the detail though. edit: Maybe whatever you used to capture the images is auto-compressing them ? I agree here, they don't seem all that impressive for the memory needs. It may be something to do with the open nature of the maps, maybe all textures for an area are preloaded to eliminate any need to load textures during play. I tried setting textures to medium on my, soon to be upgraded, 128Mb card and their was noticeable stuttering which I think was down to texture loading.
  4. That's exactly how I found it too. I do get spotted a lot of the time but only when they happen to be facing toward me, if not then I can sneak up too. A few times I've been sneaking up on one guy, and someone else would spot me and shout something out. I don't speak spanish but I think it's the equivelent of "Dude, turn the ###### around" which the guy I'm sneaking up on does, and you can tell how panicked he is when he sees me (screams, fires wildly etc). Best AI I've ever seen (altough it's possible I'm only imagining some of it, but that's almost as good anyway). I'm pretty sure aswell that when I start paying more attention to recon, my sneaking will improve. There's a difference between sneaking around a corner in case something's there, and sneaking around a corner because you know exactly what's there.
  5. There does actually seem to be a decent bit of compression on those images, that might be neutralising some of the difference ?
  6. Isn't hardware the right option ? I'm playing with an audigy and that's what I'm using. The only bug I've noticed is once after a reload there was a gun noise stuck repeating, dissapeared after some real shooting and hasn't been back since
  7. The obvious suspects for this are either your poswer supply or overheating, what rating is your PSU, what are your temps like and can you run other recent high end games (maybe FEAR or oblivion)?
  8. Yeah, the GR1 system was fine for general positioning and setting ROE and stuff, but it could fall a little flat for more intricate coordinated manouvers. Maybe I just like to micro-manage too much...
  9. Apologies if this was already discussed in detail, I don't think it was which is kind of surprising considering how important it will be to the game (it'll possibly be THE most important thing as far as I'm concerned anyway). Bo has mentioned at some point that using the command map, a sequence of commands can be chained together for your squad. I'm guessing (and hoping) that this will be tied into the way point system somehow and also that there'll be some method of synchronising commands between squad mates, well I suppose there'd have to be really for it to be of maximum use. I could see this working in one of two ways, either through R6-like go-codes, or else through sequence numbering i.e. all squad members execute command 1, when they're all done they move onto 2 etc.. Whatever way it works I'm hoping it'll allow good coordinated multi-vector attacks on targets. For example when approaching a square, you could split your team and have them stealthily approach from different routes, then wait untill everyone is in place before switching to assault. It'd be pretty cool too if you could command the squad to take up defensive positions around the square after destroying the target, before even approaching the target if you know what I mean. Also I'm hoping it'll allow for greater tactical movement, like that cool animated gif someone posted a while ago. For example, when approaching a 4-way junction you could command two squad memebers to cover right and left while yourself and the other member run across the junction and take up positions to cover the first two guys coming across. I'd love to hear how others think it'll work (especially those who've already tried it out, if they can ) ?
  10. I think overclockers.co.uk will ship to the US, no idea if you guys get hit with import duty for this kind of thing though. I've been thinking of getting one myself but the techamok link above makes it sound like nVidia themselves are introducing an official AGP version, which means the gainward cards should come down in price, no longer being the only kids on the AGP block.
  11. Where the hell's my demo, you owe me !!!11!!1! ...erm... I agree
  12. They're available at OcUK (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/PhysX_Accelerators.html), it says preorder on the site, but in the forums there's a few people who've recieved there's already. There was a mention somewhere that OcUK are going to be the only people to have them for a while yet
  13. I had problems starting the HD download with firefox, switched to IE and it works fine.
  14. I can't help wondering if this is something to do with the anti-cheat stuff they're using. What was the name of that AC software mentioned here before that acts almost like an ingame referee, judging what people should and should not be able to do without cheating (I think there was a report on it too) ? Would that require a video card like a 9600 ?
  15. The PC market is and always has been viable. It's also still, and always has been viable, to produce 'proper pc titles' like flight sims, driving sims, and of course good tactical sims like ghost recon. The problem is that publishers can make more money for less effort by churning out crap generic titles and just marketing them, instead of like in the old days where if a game was actually good then it got hyped by it's fan base. At least there was a perception that that was true anyway. Hopefully GRAW will show that a unique, well made game can dominate the sales charts, and bring in much more money than than some average generic shooter that tries to be like every other shooter out there, but doesn't do it aswell (I'm thinking specifically of Lockdown here, I've never seen it's sales figures, but I wouldn't be surprised if GRAW preorders have already eclipsed them).
  16. Love that HDR, I hope there's going to be a GRAW 'collectors edition' that comes with a pair of sunglasses you can wear while playing I think the more understated ret looks much better too, I was a little worried from some of the other screenies that it was too big and opaque, making it hard to see exactly where you're aiming, especially going for a long range headshot.
  17. I'm pretty sure Bo mentioned bullets penetrating doors, cars etc before. I'd expect it follows that they penetrate people too (depending on calibre of course)
  18. Tbh I think the overall impressions are more important than the details which are mere, well, details. What's most important is whether GR fans think GRAW is worthy successor or not and thanks to Colin and ZeroAlpha (thanks guys ), we now know that they do. I don't really care if you can turn feature x on or off or if an explosion has 20.3852% more debris than a real one should. At the end of the day it's just a game and as long as it's a lot of fun to play, the specifics will take care of themselves. (btw, Colin and ZeroAlpha, any more general comments you guys could make would be very welcome by me, thanks again)
  19. Yes the enemies shout orders to each others in Spanish - it's really immersive (oh no, it's one of those gaming buzzwords). But seriously, it really creates an atmosphere of Mexico. I remember playing Delta Force and Delta Force II back in the day (anyone else whas into that?), where you snuck into a rural village in some middle-eastern country and when the crap hit the fan and everybody started yelling in some language you didn't even recognize you went like "YES!". ← YES ! That's exactly what I thought of when Bo mentioned orders being shouted in spanish. It's exactly what I was hoping it would be like.
  20. The sound is actually something I'm really looking forward to experiencing. It was one of the best features of GR1 and really added to the immersion. I guess it hasn't been mentioned much because it's something we can't really appreciate untill we get our hands on the game/demo ourselves (unless there's some way of providing a good quality 5.1 download ?). The sound so far has been kind of dissapointing but I think that's really down to the quality of the clips not really reflecting what it'll be like in game. I've noticed Bo dropping a few hints before that the sound is going to something special, and judging by everything else we've seen so far, I think it's safe to trust you on that for now (altough a downloadable clip focusing on the sound would be very nice )
  21. Sounds like they just summarised some press releases about the console version tbh. In addition to the gun cam and scopes already mentioned, I think "Yet if a Ghost goes to ground, the possibility exists to rescue yet always it." refers to healing like in the console version, which I think Bo said wouldn't be in the PC.
  22. Can't wait to see Parking Lot + Airstrike
  23. Interesting, we all knew there'd be a GR4 but I wouldn't have expected it till 2008. Of course we all know it'll be delayed till 2008, but still. Biggest question has to be who's developing it ? Does GRIN have the capacity to be working on GR4 while still finishing GRAW ?
