What I would like to see in GR2

Recommended Posts

Really the only other ability I'd like to see, is the ability to sneak up on an enemy and wap him with the butt of your gun, grab and break his neck or cut him with a knife....I don't want to see punching, jumping, swimming, kicking, rolling....that's just, i dunno....unnecessary me thinks :P

:stupid: How long has the GR2 forum been here? :stupid:  -_-

I wondered that too.... :blink::wacko:

Since Monday (May 26) afternoon.:D

Call me cynical, but I think that RSE/Ubi is probably pushing their luck with GR2 unless they do some MAJOR overhauling on the engine. Engines have made some serious leaps since GR and if they are sticking with the original engine, it will be difficult to create a competetive game graphics and physics wise. There are even some scripting limitations with the current engine.

Of course my greatest hope is that they will create a new engine, but I doubt it will happen for a sequel. :(

LMAO!

I don't really remember what I want anymore. It's been so long since I played or modded GR that I can't actually remember much about what it's like. You... uh... shoot stuff, right? Yeah, remember it vaguely.

Something like that :D

Actually I'd like to see expanded Kits. My biggest gripe is that I can't take my pistol when I have an underbarrel weapon like a GL or shotgun. Just about every picture I've seen of an SF soldier, they'll have their over/under and a pistol in a holster.

And to address player balance issues, either lower the number of pistol mags, or make the enemies tougher.

Ideally they'll get rid of kits, and allow for individual weapon load outs like UO/RS.

I'd also like to see a more interactive environment, being able to blast through plywood doors would be nice.

As for vehicles, unless they increased map size to what OFP has, I don't see a need. But I'd like to see more flexibility in how the characters move, such as climbing, swimming etc (probably no jumping). There are alot of missions where swimming would be appropriate. My uncle was a UDT during WW2, and he'd swim in to Japanese held harbors, and plant explosives on ships among while doing other nasty things.

I would like to see the Unreal Engine used as well as Standalone Servers with Linux support.

Personally i think they should use the same engine that Ubi's using for their game Far Cry. I think it's called the Crytek engine or something like that. Looks like a pretty impressive engine and is capable of creating huge environments which is perfect for Ghost Recon. :o=:rocky:

I would like to see that in ghost recon2, you could make your own terrains in igor, and be able to place any desired structure on the map. Also the ablility to drive vehicles as well. Think about it, flying a helecopter, gunning down enemys!

With such an addicitive game, I have to try everything at least once - my biggest complaint is team selection when using team AI on a mission. I pick myself and maybe get one or two buddies to take a slot - but that leaves 6 team members that I have no options on. One of my favorite BIFF missions requires a human Anti-Tank player - silly, since 2 or 3 of the AI team will be AT guys... one of us has to play a demo guy we really don't want.

(only other major complaint is the eagle-eyed enemy AI that can see a prefectly still sniper 1/2 way across the map in the dark.. etc)

Cudos to all the great modders that keep the game playable!

Please remember that the Ghosts are a US Army unit and would wear uniforms that the Army wears. In the field, there are only 2 that could be worn, woodland and desert, with arctic being coverings that are pulled over the basic woodland fatigues.

Not true, I'm afraid. The Ghosts are a group of Special Forces operators. In real life these guys want to look like anything but American soldiers. Therefore, they wear what is called "mufti" which is garb to help them blend in with the local populace.

I don't claim to be an expert on the subject but why would the operatives want to blend into the local population in the middle of the Ossetian Autonomous Region. I can see them doing it in Iraq/Afghan but not in the middle of a european country. Anyone else agree??

Ya know what I want? When enemies get wounded, they try to crawl away as you approach, yelling and screaming. Then, when you stand over them, they start pleading for their lives. That's enough to make you feel like a god. And then, who here wouldn't want to stare them in the eye and put a bullet right in their forehead halfway through a plea at least once? It sounds kind of sick and twisted, but I'm sure everyone would enjoy the realism. Or if you hit someone dead on with a -203 round, they lose a body part! That's realistic for you!

Lets face it guys. There is a reason that Ghost Recon and the Rogue Spear games are still massively popular after being out 2 plus years.

These reasons are :

Multiplayer Simplicity and performance

The realism

The ability to Mod.

And it is one of the few games that can still go MP with more than one person on 56K, although I dont think realisticly that this will continue to be so.

Here is what I would like to see them do.

Remove the blocks that keep us from climbing mountains, falling off cliffs. This seriously hinders realism.

A smarter AI, and more realistic amounts of baddies.

Realistic weapons loadouts. Alot of the weapons in GR wouldnt be used by our troops, and if the troops were smart ones, wouldnt take these onto the battlefield.

Also, it would be great to be able to pick up weapons and dropped ammo and such from victims on the field.

Some ballistic work needs to be done, and scope work also. For instance, the M82A1a. The bullet in a stock load will penetrate 12 inches of concrete. IMO, they should use the M82 Barret gun mod by maniac biker dude. This is the most realistic I have seen the 50 sniper rifle done. The sound and the ballistics on this mod are damn near perfect. It also has an effective range of 2500 yards, and an operating range of much further. The 6 or 8 power scope that GR uses is nowhere near realistic. Nor are the ballistics.

The 308 round can penetrate wood walls and doors, as well as the typical brick used in a house. The 308 also has an effective range of 1000 yards. hence the 4X scope currently in use in GR is inaccurate as well.

The 223 is accurate and effective out to 600 yards. A 4-6X is fine here.

Id do away with most of the weapons kits. A good soldier would want nothing to do with, nor even have available, machine pistols as a choice. And at that, the MP5 and MP10 would only be available to specialists.

All troops would have a pistol, a rifle, and frag and smoke grenades, just as real troops do. Not a rifle and a pistol or frags. All troops have a rifle and a pistol, and all troops carry hand frags. Why not in the game? THis is not realistic.

The real demo guys have a rifle, pistol and frags in real life, as well as their demo charges or AT4.

The standard kit would include a rifle, pistol, frags and smoke grenades as a given, then a choice of special mission required weaponry, such as the AT4 or MM!, or demo charges.

I would make the missions action dependent. In other words if you fail to do something, it triggers what would really happen in the game. For instance, if a hostage is killed, the game doesnt end, the stakes are just raised.

Be able to effectively use demo charges and explosives for things besides mission objectives, like demolishing houses, buildings, etc.

The thing about the Ghosts, is they are a US unit, and therefor would have access to only the armaments that the US military use. The game should reflect that, if we are going for realism here.

Here are the weapons I would have in GR for use by the troops.

M16

M4A1 and A1SD

HKOICW, the M24 sniper system, in 308

The M82A1a

A selection of pistols. Most US troops can buy their own unless that has changed recently, as long as they are approved.

No machine pistols. THey are gone, except for possible the MP5 and 10 SD. Almost all rifle kits would be gone. US troops dont have access to most of this stuff.

The sniper scopes for the most part would be 10X. On the 308 rifles and the 50, a variable 6.5X20 with a 50 mm objective lens. A good model for modders like SOTO would be the Springfield 3rd generation ART Scope.

There would also be a knife, for some covert applications.

The big thing is, leave the MultiPlayer setup alone. No required lobbies, leave it Direct IP. The lobbies and all that stuff hinder games, and performance, bigtime. Thats what ruined RvS, the way Ubi forced themselves down our throats. RvS is now a coaster becuse in MP the framrates are unplayable.

Ubi needs to quit shoving them down our throats. GR is so popular because we can play the way we want to, where we want to and how we want to. Ubi ruined that with RvS.

Anyway, thats what I would do. Comments and thoughts are welcome !! Bring them on.

Not to say I disagree but I'd like to pick up on some overstated points.

Realistic weapons loadouts.  Alot of the weapons in GR wouldnt be used by our troops, and if the troops were smart ones, wouldnt take these onto the battlefield.

Maybe you're thinking of MP here, or firefights with V1.4 because in the missions, you still only get the standard US weapon kits. The reason that other weapons are available for multiplayer is to accommodate the additional units represented - Russian, Ethiopian and Cuban soldiers.

All the sniper rifles have a 10x scope as standard, if I recall correctly.

Id do away with most of the weapons kits.  A good soldier would want nothing to do with, nor even have available, machine pistols as a choice.  And at that, the MP5 and MP10 would only be available to specialists.

See above.

All troops would have a pistol, a rifle, and frag and smoke grenades, just as real troops do.  Not a rifle and a pistol or frags.  All troops have a rifle and a pistol, and all troops carry hand frags.  Why not in the game?  THis is not realistic.

The standard kit would include a rifle, pistol, frags and smoke grenades as a given, then a choice of special mission required weaponry, such as the AT4 or MM!, or demo charges.

What you have to realise is that Ghost Recon is not strictly a realistic soldier simulation in every respect, it is a well-balanced game in which you choose to play as a particular, emphasised unique specialist. If everyone was entitled to near enough the same kit, the game would lose this aspect.

The thing about the Ghosts, is they are a US unit, and therefor would have access to only the armaments that the US military use.  The game should reflect that, if we are going for realism here.

Here are the weapons I would have in GR for use by the troops.

Eh, actually I don't think that the Ubi setup is what made some people's frame rates low in Raven Shield. Not when those same people's frame rates are the same in single player. Raven Shield is just a very demanding game.

By no means am I defending Ubi's decision to invoke the Ubi-only server stuff... I'm just trying to clear up some facts.

Actually, in MP, the Ghosts are still a US force, and wouldnt have access to all these different weapons. Of course, thats mods withstanding. BUt GR, DS, and IT are still a US force, supplied by the Army.

Anyway, if we are going for more realism, which alot of people want, these are my opinions.

As for the RvS thing and Ubi, it has a great deal to do with Ubi, since we get an average of 80FPS and higher in SP. The FPS is strictly an MP issue, and we all have awesome broadband connections. When you go from 80FPS in SP to 8 in MP, and the only thing different is where you had to connect to to play the game, yeah, I'd say that pretty much narrows it down to 2 things. Ubi's service, and I say service sarcasticly, because they dont have any, and the net code within the game.

Being forced to use Ubi and their servers, blows.

I completely agree with you on the multiplayer issue Phantom. I keep saying that if UBI goes the direction the EA did on their multiplayer games I will stay with the original and not buy GR2. If I can not host or join a privately hosted game I am not interested.

I would like to see the integration of "Evenbalance" PunkBuster Software implemented.

For those that do not know what this is - It's an Anti-Cheat Program.

A number of companies are now using Evenbalance to integrate an Anti-Cheat Solution.

Evenbalance - http://www.evenbalance.com

I've witnessed the program in use, as I also game with Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

The program is constantly updated to find the new "cheat/hack" programs that enable a gamer to have an unfair advantage over other gamers.

Unfortunately it's upto the GR Team to contact Evenbalance to discuss matters further.

I would like to have the ability to set multiple claymores without having to detonate them. It would also be nice to have a key that tells anyone who laid a claymore to set it off.

Also, I would like primitive Go-Codes. punch a button, Alpha team stops. hit that button again and they continue on their waypoints.

Both of these would be used in ambushes, mainly.

have the ability to set multiple claymores

Yeah, never thought of that, might make ambushes more common on enemy patrols.

punch a button, Alpha team stops

You can already do this. The number buttons on the regular keyboard do this.

Hold - 4

Advance - 5

Advance at all costs - 6

Recon - 7

Engage - 8

Surpress - 9
