Zeealex
i've never known an FPS that puts the gun on the Left, or gives a choice of right and left. Why is that?
RileyFletcher_01
Because the majority of people are right-handed, and the work needed to allow either way would require a whole new set of animations, which would hardly be worth a different view of your gun. Zeealex
true, but i would have thought that just flipping the gun over would suffice, like mirroring it, but not the whole game if you follow me.
RileyFletcher_01
But if you're holding it in your left, how would you change the mag? You'd have to have new animations for that, as well as aiming down the sight, different helper points and all that good stuff.
Zeealex
not really if it's been mirrored, right has been turned to left almost immediately
WytchDokta
I do believe the Unreal Tournament series of games allowed players to select which side to have the gun on.
Operative
WD is correct, but Unreal did not feature magazines as I remember it, just the ordinary sci-fi firefight. (I'm refering to UT99, the only I played before jumping on SWAT3 ) Edited April 20, 2012 by Operative
Oelmuvun
In the Marathon games from the mid 90s you could use two fists at once and hold two pistols.. As well as two shotguns!(but you had to pick up a second to use the left one) And as I recall the SPNKR-X18 (rocket launcher) was also held on your left shoulder. The TOZT-7 (flamethrower) and other guns are held in the centre of the screen. Really, the fun weapons in those games were fists, pistols, shotties, rocket launcher and flamethrower. So a left-handed person would be right at home playing. At least most of the time. Only most beacuase the reload animations for the weapons held in the centre are those of being held right handed. Evilducky
You can play doom?! LOL! the gun is in the center of the screen. Also, Counter Strike did what your looking for. They had a right hand or left hand option. What I personally hate is right handed people holding left handed guns.. >.<
MeanMF
Ran across this a while ago...
Zeealex
@MF and EvilDucky, is that the first Doom? And that is so true MeanMF, something i've debated with myself for a while, i suppose though it's like that to save space on the screen as not everyone has the ability to use full 3 dimensional view.
