  1. Not only that but since a bullet will lost different amounts of energy on different ricochets who's to say what could be considered lethal. I've been hit by a richochet from my CAR-15 .223 (hot backstop) in the elbow. broke the skin but not deadly. point is that modeling richochets would be way overly complex as depending on the material you could get a richochet or you could have the round basically disinigrate depending on the angle, weight of what it hits, blah blah blah. let's worry about the major things before getting nit pickey.
  2. bullett drop and flight time based on muzzle velocity would be nice. windage etc would get too complicated for even the most hardcore fans.
  3. in grAw the guns are so ADVANCED that they superceed the laws of physics. Maybe you missed that in the manual.
  4. which is absolutely asinine. a front grip will not decrease your accuracy. These are GHOSTS (eliete troops) not terrorists or hollywood actors. they do not 'shoot from the hip' and they ARE overly concerned with accuracy and precision. we use 'shoot from the hip' to describe the shooting without looking down the sights which is really a bad description. the weapon is not going to be fired without the soldier looking down the sights. it's just done so you can see more since you don't have your perefireal (spelling horrendous sry) vision. we just want it to be harder to hit anything consistantly when you are not looking through the iron sights or scope/redot.
  5. Indeed. Most of the hardcore [GR] players haven't played any other "Military themed" online shooter, so to speak. GR is just one out of many. GR is not the king of military FPSs. In terms of popularity, CS is. i think you guys are missing the point. someone in a ubi thread put it best (don't remember the person or the exact quote but here it goes) The people that complain are your best customers in your respective industry. Sure you get people that won't be happy with anything but in general the people that complain are your most loyal customers. They complain because they want you to better your product. Instead of being quiet and going to a compeditor they show that they like your product enough to care to make it better. This is what most of the "i hate complainers" don't see. Just because we don't like the current state of the game doesn't mean we don't like the game. We just want it to be better.
  6. no trajectory or loss of stopping power the point to this thread is that there's got to be a better ballance between rounding a corner and being able to spray and get easy kills. it's too easy to get kills 'shooting from the hip' it should be much harder to get any kill or any consistancy of shot placement unless you are scoped in/using iron sights/red dot.
  7. when using iron sights or a red dot/scope there should be no spread (outside of the given MOA of your weapon) and given that a trained soldier will never fire his weapon from the hip there really shouldn't be a 'spread' like [GR]. now i will agree that the kick of the weapons feels horribly akward and when shooting with the ret it does not move enough. though right now it's almost too much, i'm in favor of more recoil to make the game more balanced. it is too easy to point and shoot.
  8. i've always felt that games get rated a bit higher than what they should be. If you've paid attention GRAW has been paying a lot of money to PC Gamer for advertising. numerous full page ads and sometimes two page ads. wouldn't want to ###### off your money source now would ya? Now it's not as bad as nintendo power was back in the day where everything was a must play.
  9. In [GR] we had replays. Some teams with community minded individuals started a group that would independantly look at any replays and decide if the person was cheating or not. A conviction meant a ban on all servers that were part of this group. As it stands we have no way to deal with cheaters. even if we could identify them we cannot ban them. if we are able to ban them in the future then i suggest getting with SRS or Respected Admins.
  10. What are you talking about? I fail to see the relation between video settings and skill. Do you mean the FPS goes down and because of this the game is harder to play and your kill ratio goes down??? ... cause I don't think there is anything wrong with my skill and I play with all setting on high. Got my best ever kill ratio on an UBI server Industrial map today 17-0. obviously you never played much [GR]. the higher quality settings make it harder to pick out small details. with the exception of shadows of course. obviously, you never played much GRAW. obviously i didn't glitch much [GR].
  11. http://www.team-srs.com they were there for [GR] and may be there for GRAW if it ever takes off.

  13. or don't buy it in the first place and let ubi lose money.
  14. ROCOAFZ, No, all server side replays do is let the admin guess at if the person is cheating. Just because they are appearing to track someone through walls doen't 100% mean they can see them. They might be hearing them. Sure you might see some suspicious activity, and then it's a judgement call by the admin, if they are cheating or not. Some very good players use sound to indicate where players are. That is not to say that you won't be able to find any cheaters with server replays but the numbers you will find with be incredible low compared to SS's or replays of what the client is actually displaying on the screen. The problem often associated with either of those is the bandwidth and performance for the client while transferring. This is also why some ladders mandated client side video via FRAPS or gamecam. Lt.Instg8r, Good points. But it's not just the xml files being able to be edited, it's also the fact that the client settings are allowed to dictate key settings on the server. Regardless if they were encrypted or not, they should never be able to superceed the game settings on the server. That decision comes down to simply poor design decisions/mistakes. It also illustrates GRIN's lack of experience coding a MP engine and/or netcode. I agree with this post. It would be kind of nice had UBI decided to hand over the rest of the work to RedStorm so they can finish the rest of the game. But see all this was taken into consideration years ago with gr1 replays. That with the fact that anywhere from 5-20 people reviewing the replay had to all confirm to be found guilty. much like a jury system where all have to say guilty else the person in question goes free. even people using sound don't stare through the walls right at their target.
  15. you can't be serious. they develop a game to work with an os that is basically beta and virtually no one uses and it's our fault?
  16. more of a passive file checker than an active anticheat.
  17. Actually if i remember correctly... GR1 didn't do neither video or graphical. The replays were positions of coordinates and such. Basically wha the game was sending to players. The computer generated all this from the 2 mb file when playing back under the replay program. Correct me if i'm wrong. I think you got it. I don't know how it actually worked in the end. I think it just recorded the players xyz coordinates and their heading (direction of look) and just took those and saved them every 1/4th or 1/8th a second (forget the slowest replay setting but that would be the minimum step in time for information storage). then it also would record shot fired from xyz and the impact of the bullet xyz since there were no physics for the real bullets. now wether it recorded the flight path or let the game render a flight path for like the oicw nades, frags, mm1 nades i am not sure. i think it just recorded xyz shot and xyz land because i remember watching replays where the frags would land in a different spot than they would explode. meaning that your game rendered the frag throw but placed the explosion properly so the two may not match up in your replay.
  18. our best asset to catching cheaters is our teams playing. We've waded through hacking teams before with RvS when it had no PB and with gr1 when it didn't have the replays fully implemented. You guys do the matching and let us worry about catching the cheaters. Hopefully GRIN will give us something in a month or so but until then we've had fun matching AOD and CGI and we are going to be matching RS soon.
  19. glad someone else took notice. the files are going to be massive. think 1024x786-1600x1200 videos for 10 mins. then 5-7 of them needing to be uploaded.
  20. replays would not be that taxing. all that is needed to be recorded is player position, direction of view, shooting or not, direction of bullet travel, reloading or not, picked up ammo or not, and then let the client watching the replay recreate the physics and gameplay. replays are needed but i would say better server tools and the ability to ban by cd key/ip address. what's the big deal if we can catch cheaters but not ban them?
  21. even though it is a challange at times we are having matches at TCZ http://www.thecombatzone.net
  22. i thought the sp was too linear and too easy. and why would you want to use an enemy machine gun nest when you have no idea how it has been maintained and you have your own weapon that has been properly maintained. the machine gun nest is just an easy stationary target anyways
  23. "SIGH" .... I guess modders should never do there job either... just wait until the developer releases more maps... Sorry I degress... I will PM if my time becomes more free... but a good idea guys and way to support the community.. i guess you didn't understand my post. it's funny to see the people develop a manual for a game. you know a manual on how to use the game that developers of every other game i have bought wrote themselves, at the time of release. modding is one thing, a manual on how to use the original game is another.
