  1. Nice. This is yet another good step. Did you just have to rename the files, or is it much more complicated than that?
  2. netKar Pro is. see my review thread. and check out the demo.
  3. real nice! does the sniper scope work on the SCAR-H? has anybody figured out now to make this work properly?
  4. great! this was something i was hoping would be possible. Any pointers on how you did it? those would be much appreciated. Where is Paulkel's thread? SCAR-H + sniper scope SCAR-H + ecotech
  5. WOW! really cool to see all tha old stuff again. I never saw the 2001 iteration of GR.net! how far we've gone... cool.
  6. hehe, before those guys moved (from their mom's house) they lived in my neighbourhood in TO. very funny to see the ownerer just hanging around in the park etc. Re: the headshot issue. Should be easy to solve (touch wood). The easiest way is probably in the gun's .xml. The sniper riffle doesn't suffer from the probelm, so look at it's states and use it to modify you chosen weap. The better way would be to find the damage model. Change all head values to 100 or whatever. Don't have the game yet, so i can't help more than that.
  7. excellent. This is an important step (ya, at least 'till we get more mod support). Really good work Digital.
  8. hmm, can't give you first hand help (waiting to upgrade my comp before i get the game i've been waiting years for) But i'd check which .dds file type you're saving as. Some textures in GR1 would do that too with the .rsb's. You didn't mess with spec or bump maps or whichever this game uses did ya, 'cause that would for sure cause the glow. If the above doesn't fix anything, their are a bunch of threads in this section where i saw similar problems with sollutions.
  9. nice! good changes. The tiger-camo'd SCAR is cool. I really like the old style shoulder patch too.
  10. Just picked it up in my local bookstore. (looks like it came out in Canada a little later than in other places). Amazingly well written for a military book. Well maybe that's unfair, it's well written for any book. A lot of this military stuff can be drudge, my little brother could write better than most of these writers. But Masters of Chaos is great! She approaches the subject with respect, but also with a kind of honesty and humility that is often so lacking in these sorts of books. I hope Masters of Chaos becomes to the military non-fiction what The Double Helix is to the history of science. Both de-deify the subject, making it both more relevant and more impressive. Very nicely done Ms. Robinson /my grade 8 book report....
  11. hmm. Those were really nice in GR1, but you're right, thwy would be much harder to impliment here. Maybe it would be possible to put a plane above each map with a grid textured onto it. It would be transparent from the underside so when you looked at the sky ingame you wouldn't see the grid? You'd only see it when looking down from satelite view. can't think of a better way...
  12. glad you guys noticed too. thought i was going crazy. the Rainbow series is just starting to gather momentum againt too! hurah!
  13. Glad you guys took notice. Try the Demo. The demo's available from the "official site" i linked to in the original post too, but the server is way slow. Give it a try. (the only drawback to the demo is that the AIM, the lcd screen on your steering, wheel won't work) There's a lot of speculation as to what the content of the next cars will be. Nobdy knows for sure. Stock Cars are just as likely as any other. There are obvious places in the game where the devs have left room for the impliementation of other types of cars. Once the full dev kit is released we'll see plenty of mods too.
  14. I upgraded through all the patches. But you can always check by downloading 1.5 and looking at the Read-Me. It'll tell you what you need to do. The worst that can happen is that you've gotta go back and download the other patches.
  15. netKar Pro - Review This is most definitely not the best time to review a game like netKar Pro. Everyone, including myself, is busy with E3 and the droolfest that ensues. But netKar Pro managed to get the best of my ever shortening attention span. In the midst of E3 mania, that's quite an accomplishment. The reason nKP has consumed all my time is that it's good. It's really good. The physics feel right, the cars react the way they should, graphics add to the immersion, the sound is like nothing else. Yet somehow nKP manages to be more than the sum of its parts. There's a sense of occasion to getting into a track day or race that's not far short of their real life counterparts. You sit in your car looking out the garage and onto the cold track. Flick the various toggles and switches to bring you racer to life and after a few splutters and coughs the machine comes alive. Dial in a few thousand revs, slip the clutch (button in my case), depress the paddle for first and ... you stall. And then you stall again. But when you do get it right, it makes it that much sweeter. You can skid out of your pit spot with rear tires ablaze like the best of 'em. It's very cool when you get it right. But out on the track is where the learning curve gets steep. There are only open wheeled racers in this first iteration of the game: two wingless Formula Ford type racers with 1600 and 1800cc, and then two fully winged and downforced racers the fastest of which is an F3 car. Many of you might be disappointed with the lack of choice, and I can sympathize. “There's not even an F1 car for peats sake!” your cry. Open wheelers aren't even my cup of tea, I love the tin-top GT racers. But give nKP a chance. There are addons on the way. And besides, these little cars are more than enough to keep you busy. You've got to memorize how to use each of their unique gearboxes, not to mention learn to get competitive lap times. The sound is perfect. It’s not what you normally hear from a racing sim, but it’s the closest approximation of sitting in a race car with a helmet on that I’ve ever heard short of. The devs developed a synthesiser called “sqazzato” to replicate the sounds of an engine during every condition at every rpm. One feature where nKP still needs polishing is the online experience. The devs are working hard to smooth the experience of firing up the game and jumping into a race. Right now, you need to read a tutorial to figure it out. But the customer support is better than any other game I've played. Someone gets back to you the next day with a solution or at the very least an honest answer. The online community is one of the nicest and most helpful welcoming places on the internet (think GR.net at it's best). The interface is simple, effective, and fast to use but dauntingly detailed. There are options galore, including one which gives the mechanics all the time they would need in the real world to fix your car. You get to sit there (or walk around the track in "Doom" mode) and think about how next time you could avoid skittering off the track and into the wall like a bat out of hell. The game rewards every ounce of effort you put in. It's addictive. This is a game with a long, bright future. I tried to be brief but I failed. Facts: -4 different cars, tons of skins for each -4 different tracks, 3 have multiple configurations -available for online download only -free addons for a year with purchase -highly modable already, with more official support on the way -very scaleable graphics engine. (It’s running at 50-60 fps on my 1.9ghz AMD rig with an ATI 8500 64mb edition and still looking better than most racing sims out there.) Here are some useful links if you’re still interested: Official Site Community Forum feel free to ask question. -Matt.
  16. GTR was notorious for causing problems. There are several patches which you can get from gtr-game.com. Start with those. 1.5 is the latest I think. The directory shouldn't matter, but to be one the safe side, just do what the disk's default is. Not sure 'bout Starforce. let us know how it goes.
  17. Logitech announce a new high end Force Feedback wheel today. The G25 compatible with PC and PS2. features: - 2 Force Feedback motors - 6 gears shifter H pattern - Paddle Shifters - [only] 2 buttons on the wheel itlsef - 3 pedals - 11 inch/ 27,5 cm wheel - leather and steel construction, limited production around $300 US. It's not cheap, but these are features perviously reserved for custom geat costing twice as much. have a drool: nice!
  18. oh boy! here we go. great to see you back in the game Baja.
  19. I'm pretty sure they're keeping the "supermodels everywhere" part.
  20. I really like the stuff you did for "Kidd Pivot." Good stuff.
  21. Thanks guys. I like to support the local bookstore when I can. BUt i guess this time I can't. online it is
  22. I went to two different book stores yesterday (local and chapters/indigo). Neither had it in store. Is it a new book?
