Tinker
This is a bit vague tbh. 2 questions that could very well merit there own topics.Things that could make my dream ghost recon, some would be in GRAW1 and 2. Which could never be in ghost recon ofc. And a nice Lara croft to follow around would not go amiss also. Basic climbing. Being able to jump, but unable to fire until the jump is complete. A list could be compiled here... Now things that would be nice to see in urban storm is discussable. Maybe you would like to expand on what you are looking for here first? Well ok i know we love our game how it was! and wish that everone would come back and play it like the old days. but can some one tell me the main resons why the game died out. was it the lack of new Patches? was it the Closing of the Online lobby? was it the last patch 1.4.0.0. zeealice
the graphics just suck, thats all that is wrong with it and perhaps the fact that ubi refuses to give us the source code, so in your little meeting, try and get that out of them will you? oops, broke my own vow, well, it was worth it. wombat50
Can some one tell me the main resons why the game died out. was it the lack of new Patches? was it the Closing of the Online lobby? was it the last patch 1.4.0.0. In my case I have played coop with the same guys once a week since 2003. There is allot of user made content we still haven't played. But for teams that played several times a week I think new content ran out. I have heard others complain about the super accuracy of the enemy AI and glitches. In the rare instance the accuracy was unbelievable but overall I thought that aspect fair. The glitches such as being seemingly in cover and still being shot were frustrating at times. Agree with Zeealice, the textures need improving. I have done some retexturing for myself and others. I never tried it but and idea would be to replace textures of good quality but much higher resolutions. I think the max GR will handle is 2048 x 2048. That would be allot of work so I would concentrate on the cliff and ground detail, and ghost skins textures to start with.
zeealice
yeah, stretched ground textures were annoying, and if possible, could you implement a widescreen fix? so the HUD looks a little less, weird i know there is the "scale HUD" button, but that is effort if you can get those GR:AW - like character textures in the game that would also be good, seeing as it just looks cool, perhaps get rid of the logo on the chest armor Edited May 7, 2011 by zeealice

Thanks wombat I did some retexturing to a few maps and made the files as hight res as i could to see what would happen to the game engine and i had no problems the textures looked ver nice but i did notice that one problem did occur when standing by any wall if some one was on other side you can see the shadow. i think since the walls were made thin this is why we seen the shadow but then again i could be wrong. the only other way to find out is to fire up 3Dmax and do a test map with thick walls too see if thats the fix. zeealice
on other side you can see the shadow ugh, that annoyed the living hell out of me, it just took the fun out of getting my ass kicked by the CPU so bad Edited May 7, 2011 by zeealice
Hammer
From my point of veiw,I would not want too much changed, I would just like to see an upgrade of the textures and maybe some dameage models eg in the original if you throw a nade at a car the car remained undameged apart from a texture change. Dont get me wrong i dont want GRAW type destruction just a swap from a no dameged car to a dameged car with some smoke. thats about it for me, but i think everyone is going to have there own ideas as to how it should be Good Luck

zeealice
and another thing then i'll leave this alone for a bit, the original thunder sound was unconvincing, you might want to make some amends to that too.

The game got old, just like all other games. The majority move on, life is like that. The few people I know who still play this game, play most other new games also. However, it is the original gameplay mechanics that keep them playing this also. Hear it all the time on other peoples TS, what are you doing still playing that old game. Well it must have something other games are missing. I have to admit, after all this time, this is the only game that from time to time, makes me jump out of my seat. Seriously. Bumping into a tango around a corner, and the surprise, from being hit from somewhere after assuming all is clear. But still my first point stands, people simply move on. We could all combine our efferts into a new super mod, and it will never come back. It is what it is now, those of us who happily keep the games and modding going, seem to be happy with the way it is.
TrueGiga
The Truth is Tinker many games got old but they haven’t died out like Ghost Recon did. Example of a few games that still have Many players on a daily bases. Battlefield. Still has allot of players online. I can launch my game right now and find servers full. And I’m speaking of the old version. StarCraft. Still have full games. As soon as you launch a room it gets full. Every time. and I’m sure there is other games out there that still have many players. the problem i think with ghost recon "oe" is when players get there hands on the game. They Love it!!! But? where are all the other players that love it? Gamespy, UBIgame service. and other Game Hosting software are not dedicated to the game anymore. So in turn we don’t know when and where to find games? Coop is fun but what keeps a game alive in my eyes is Clans that want to battle it out. and with out a place where they all can gather. to get these challenges I don’t see any game surviving I Understand the idea that a new game is always cool to try out i have most if not all FPS games out! but i find my self still playing Ghost Recon? And there is another example of Ghost Recon being different things to different poeple All the people i play with, play Co-Op missions, i have not played TvT since the game 1st came out its not a game type i enjoy and i know quite a few poeple who would say the same. Im not saying it does'nt have its place coz it does, the same as single player does, What im trying to say is, if your going to re-vamp the game then you need to do it for all types of game play and a statement like the one above could put off poeple who dont play TvT They may think its just being done for the Clans. Another reasone i think there are so few playing now is, Look at modern games, most are aimed at concels . its far cheaper to go and buy a concel than it is to buy a PC and these days most homes have cheap deal laptops for computer stuff and an Xbox, PS or wii for playing games on. I would frighten myself is i added up the cost of all the PC upgrades i have done over the years to keep up with modern game speeds and graphics. Its takes alot to keep a PC running well, scans, defrags, security and if something gets in you have to format and start again, Then there is endless struggle of trying to get games running on a PC due to different,Sound, graphics cards, I have an upto date system and to this day i still cant get COD world at war to run from the Official exe due to a sound card issue, but all the other COD's i have installed all work fine. By now i think you maybe getting my point, its not that people dont like the game they have just moved on to games that are easer to run, eg a concel. So its just the hard core gamers left on the PC, i think
TrueGiga
I play allot of coop then again that’s all we can play since there is no where to play VS online. some hard core gamers are happy with how the game is and it's state and some are not! I’m one that’s not happy how the game is right now and wish to improve it. i know! from working with the game so long that this game has ALOT of Room for improvement. now don’t twist my words around! this is what i mean. Improve the way gamers online get the latest patches made by the community! "Dedicated Download Manager" for Ghost recon. this will give the users updates on Missions , skins, maps, and more right when the users launch their PC!" I THINK GR.NET" Should do somthing like this for there community of players. Change in the Version Number and Name will stop most of the Lame trainers that were made for the last version 1.4.0.0 since there trainers look for the window name. in most cases advanced cheaters will use other means of killing the fun." I Did tests and it works" Last but not least a new Game service that is dedicated to display the game servers that are hosted all over the net. for Ghost recon. The Game Service Has to have a Chat system where Gamers can Recrute players, Create Clan Battles, and also Advertise there Community web sites. To finsh up! i never said Urban-Storm would be all TvT all i said in my eyes i think thats why the game went south. but with the comments above i think actions speak louder than words. if you know some one that can work on some ideas shoot them this thered. Buehgler_AS
I have watched this topic (and its relatives) quietly for a while, and I must say that I really do not understand the goal or intent here. My group (Alpha Squad) has moved on from GR to the ArmA series. As most know we exclusively play coop, and focus on small squad tactics with minimal use of "gizmos". Specific comments below.. I play allot of coop then again that’s all we can play since there is no where to play VS online. This surprises me. While the UBI "lobby" and the like may long since be dead (I really do not know as I never used it). Xfire continues to provide a fully functional server browser, so you can figure out who is playing what and where. I am further confused, because if you are playing coop you are obviously coordinating with other players to pick a mission and execute it -- why not coordinate with them to switch to playing you preferred TvT or PvP game type? I’m one that’s not happy how the game is right now and wish to improve it. [...] this is what i mean. Improve the way gamers online get the latest patches made by the community! "Dedicated Download Manager" for Ghost recon. this will give the users updates on Missions , skins, maps, and more right when the users launch their PC!" I THINK GR.NET" Should do somthing like this for there community of players. Ok, so you are most concerned with some meta-tool to help people get together and play online. But, short of having an integrated download manager tool, GR already goes a long way in this direction. Missions and game-types are both server sided, so there is no need for a client/player to ever download them. Maps, skins, weapons, character models etc. all need to be included in a mod. If you attempt to join a server that is running a mod that you do not have, the server provides a warning message and short bit of text to the user. Typically this bit of text is used to point the user at a web address where they can download the mod in question. If you think this step is the killer, then maybe you should look into writing a tool that can interact with Xfire and servers to discover the mods running ona server and automatically point people at the GR.net download links for the mods in question? Change in the Version Number and Name will stop most of the Lame trainers that were made for the last version 1.4.0.0 since there trainers look for the window name. in most cases advanced cheaters will use other means of killing the fun. Ok, so now you want to stop cheating. That seems to be a tall order. I believe there have been a few independent attempts to do this over the years, but I am 90% sure none of them ever resulting in anything. My suspicion is that this will be very difficult to do as a community effort even if UBI would provide the source code and tools you would need to really do this. Last but not least a new Game service that is dedicated to display the game servers that are hosted all over the net. for Ghost recon. The Game Service Has to have a Chat system where Gamers can Recrute players, Create Clan Battles, and also Advertise there Community web sites. I am not a marketing type, but it seems to me that between Xfire and GR.net you have the bulk of this functionality. If you really think real-time chat is the key to success, then I would suggest you look into building a tool that integrates some Xfire functionality along with an IRC client. Personally, the only thing I have ever seen from these chat rooms is a lot of screaming and taunting. In conclusion, my suggestion is that you clarify and prioritize your goals, then look at what existing technology you can bring to bear in order to achieve them. Good luck! TrueGiga
All valid points and glad you joined the conversation buehgler_AS. Missions, Kits, Maps and so on will be added as update directly to the Urban Storm Game \Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon\Mods\Origmiss Using the Download Manager. this will keep the players up to date with all that is GR-US may it be a Fix or even a new Mod the difference is that the download in question will be directed to the GAME or / MOD Directory. So lets say if GhostRecon.net would want to release a new Co-op Pack and its an Official update to the Ghost Recon - Urban Storm They can Release it to Directly install to the Games Core DIR Being / Origmiss This will help in many ways to keep a Project like this up and running. since the players can now use their Registered Copy of the Download Manager for Ghost Recon. The Game Service idea is that when there is a Fight i want to know who won. same idea with the chat system drama is what makes me come back and see who is crying, boasting, or Promoting its all information that’s good for the Gaming community. Anti cheat? no not even close its just a added fix that will stop some not all. Thanks TrueGiga Edited May 10, 2011 by TrueGiga
