TheoRetiKule
... needed for Operation FlashBack part 1, if possible... (aka Charlie Wilson's War: Hollywood beat me to it?!) Or any other little desert maps with Afghan-type wrecked mudbrick buildings where you wouldn't wanna get pinned down by a Hind or two? I've thought of the NED retexture of Battlefield, but would rather keep that for a big tide-turning ambush on an armoured column... Thanks for any ideas!! thales100
Mytoan Sniper map wouldnt be good ? WytchDokta
That first screenshots looks just like that bit from Full Metal Jacket where the female sniper is hiding. See the screenshot here
TheoRetiKule
Thanks niccola!! Mytoan Sniper - great map - one of the original greats, in fact - but too industrial for what I'm doing... (Yeah... just like Full Metal Jacket... ) Another qu... was there ever a desert texture of Black Needle (the wrecked village with the petrol station and the iron-girder bridge?) Desertised, that wrecked village would do it too... Thanks all again!! Theo EDIT: looks like Hinds did fly at night after all... maybe Night Battle will do just fine!! http://warandgame.wordpress.com/2007/08/19...in-afghanistan/ Edited January 14, 2008 by TheoRetiKule

wombat50
Some screenshots: Looking into the out of bounds area http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/wom...desert/tank.jpg I have circled some textures in this one I tried and failed to eliminate. I masked all of alpha channels to no transperency for all of the tree textures. I didn't have any trees on the map but those damn circled textures still appeared. The map really looked like crap with out trees. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/wom...rt/rogueTex.jpg Middle area on the map http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/wom...sert/middle.jpg Ruins of the church http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/wom...sert/church.jpg I do have some issues with it: I created a skeleton mission with player platoon and insertion zone just so I can run around on the map. I can only do this in SP for the mission I created. Any other gametype is not available in SP or MP. So far this has me baffled. Does it have something to do with changing it from a Origmiss map to and mp1 map in the .env file? I renamed the .env, .map and .sht files. When I play the original version of mp02_nightbattle, it uses my textures from the new map. Seems I read about this earlier. Do I have to rename the textures I have altered in the new map? Can I rename the textures? -The command map appears when I press the appropiate key but my squad mates don't appear on it and I can't set waypoints for them. The player platoon does respond to ROE commands when I use the hotkeys on the kb however. I have used the lighting tool to some effect. As I really don't know how to use, it is a hit and miss affair. I read Chems tut on it, and that helped me get started. I still haven't been able to bring up the flashlight tool? Overall, what does the lighting tool do exactly? Alter or create darkmaps? To be honest, I really like the original version of the MP02_nightbattle the best. edit: I added these lines to the <shell> portion of the .mis file <Points>1</Points> <Bases>1</Bases> <CentralArea>1</CentralArea> <Recon>1</Recon> <AssaultZones>1</AssaultZones> and now the map is in the list for all game types in SP and MP. After altering the name of the textures I am having CTD when play starts except for SP mission. With the lighting tool, I set map>set texture directory and get CTD when clicking start. Tinker
Don`t rename the textures, as they are applied in Max. Any changes outside of max to the names and they will not show. The flashlight was an issue for me too. Make sure your cursor is pointing at the ground before you select the light, it should appear in front of you. If not, Edit light, select light and zoom out a little with the arrow keys. Lighting tool creates the darkmaps, but I am not very savvy just yet in this area..the post you read from chems and oso plus the pdf needs a few reads, and then a few attempts at it yourself. Being a deset and day map, guess you won`t need any other lights really besides an ambient in the main room. So the Sun light and shadows are the main concern? Good luck. wombat50
Thanks Tinker. I did get the ambient light set but never the shadows or sunlight. After work, I'll have a go with your advice. Got a link to the .pdf? :praying:

Lightspeed
if you are short of retextured desert maps - there is a download called SunMaps which has retextured a whole heap of them - might be worth a look.
wombat50
I have retextured this map and named it mp02_desert.map. I can play it find with a skeleton mission in sp. Other modes in sp and mp CTD and generate this in the ike.log Loading map c:\program files\red storm entertainment\ghost recon\mods\mp02_desert map\map\mp02_desert\mp02_desert.map RSFILEDATA: FindFile could not find file mp02_iv_truck_window_damage.tga Couldn't load texture: none RSFILEDATA: FindFile could not find file .rsb RSFILEDATA: FindFile could not find file .rsb Unable to find .rsb anywhere. RSFILEDATA: FindFile could not find file opposing_force_desert_7.atr RSFILEDATA: FindFile could not find file opposing_force_5.kit I find it odd it wants a .tga file as I don't think there are any in GR The last two lines are not included in my install. I have opposing_force_desert_6.atr but not 7 Same with opposing_force_5.kit. I have up to opposing_force_4.kit but none higher. Adding these lines in the .mis file did make it available in SP and MP; FF, Defend, Recon <Points>1</Points> <Bases>1</Bases> <CentralArea>1</CentralArea> <Recon>1</Recon> <AssaultZones>1</AssaultZones> but like I have mentioned it CTD. I'm at a loss to enable this for anything but SP mission.
wombat50
I got it sorted by looking at the mission files associated with mp maps. I haven't figured out the function of map points in these type of mission files but no biggy at this point.
wombat50
This is off topic but related to a request you made several months ago. I retextured MP02 Night Battle to a day/desert map. It was a learning experience, especially the lighting tool but the tutorials here and advice of Tinker got me straightened out. I should have used the lighting tool on a few more maps as recently I tried using it again and have lost the knack of using it. If you have any interest in it I'll upload it to Filefront. TheoRetiKule
Wombat50, very sorry to have missed this until now... Yes, I'd love to take a look... think I'm probably sorted with the night mission (as above) for now, but there's every chance that I and a much more talented mission modder can find a home for your desert map in another little project at some future point, if that's any interest? PM your filefront link? - or would you like me to email you? Plus... any chance I could (ahem) borrow those lovely ZSU / BRDM textures in the other thread... for Op Flashback and maybe the "other" mod too? Cheers!!
