ok i got hold of 3dmax 5 and well i think theres a problem with it ive got the gr mod on it and i followed a tutorial bit by bit but when i came to opening a file i had an error message saying i couldnt open it is there summit i havent done? i know ive read everythink but i might of missed summit

what file were you trying to open?

I recommend going through some tutorials and learn the basic before you try to use Max for modding GR, sound like you lacks a bit on that stuff there.

Personally I went trough most of them, then I tryed to make some own self made objects, and then the time had come for GR. Took a couple of months to do it...but it pays off. :thumbsup:

hey coming back to this topic ive learnt some stuff but i think that its my export settings that are not correct and that i carnt open like map files or stuff like that i have tryed but nothink will open with and error. the thing is i carnt find export settings looked every where and ive had a good play with it now. please help

You're a bit hard to read there.

What is exactly your problem? Opening a file or exporting it?

Both are different as they are a different format.

Opening a file would normally have to be a .max-file.

Exporting your work would require the .rsb plugin and it would export it in the .map format.

And as a pointer when you post on a forum: use punctuations and a new line for each sentence.

It's much easier to read for us and help you in turn. ;)

well what i wanted to do is to open original gr maps and woepons and such and to have a look to see how there are made and then edit them to play around with and eventually create my own.

as posted by IF_GRT, you can't open the file's that come with GR, they need to be max or 3ds. the chr file's are available for download from piggyson's site ( i think) as well as some of the wep's

people this is no help stop telling me what i carnt do and tell me who to make my own frinking map in gr! all i wanted was to inport a map to play with then have a go at making my own same with weopons, now can someone please just tell me or send me in the right direction to being able to play with a made map and how to open an already made 1 so i could come back to my made map and edit it more.

If you don't want people telling you what you can't do, stop asking a question where the only answer is 'you can't'. Creating maps is a one way process. Author creates map, then exports it to GR. There is no way to go backwards, unless you already have the 3dsmax source.

Like it or not, once a map, weapon or character is exported from 3dsmax, into a format that can be used in Ghost Recon, you cannot take that file and import it back into 3dsmax.

Fine. Here's how to open the original GR maps/weapons/characters in 3dsmax:

1. Phone Red Storm Entertainment.

2. Tell them you really, really want the original 3dsmax files.

3. After they say no, obtain blueprints for the RSE headquarters.

4. Break in late at night, and locate a computer that has the original Max files on it.

5. Steal `em.

6. Escape unnoticed into the night.

Read the Levelbuilder.pdf on your GR IT-CD

all i wanted was to inport a map to play with then have a go at making my own

Extract the Castlemap located at your GR IT-CD.

Look on the CD for more information and goodies like the plugins.
