Malleus
...controlling the action using views that range seamlessly from the heart of the battlefield to the full theatre of war ... smooth, rapid transitions from a birds-eye view of the entire conflict, down into the heat of the battle and vice versa. This stuff doesn't sound too much different from the one in Supreme Commander, which was ... two years ago.

This statement got a smirk from me as I thought, "yeah, right." Your post got a real laugh out of me.

rookie
They shouldn't bother. After Company of Heroes many have expectations of a WW2-RTS that cannot be reached. We could already view the battlefield in CoH as well(not to mention World in Conflict). Let it go Ubisoft, you will always be a mile behind. Sup
They shouldn't bother. After Company of Heroes many have expectations of a WW2-RTS that cannot be reached. We could already view the battlefield in CoH as well(not to mention World in Conflict). Let it go Ubisoft, you will always be a mile behind. Except it has nothing in common with either game in gameplay. I have to admit, ubisoft has not put out many games that have impressed me since Ubi and RSE's 360 GRAW, but this looks spectacular: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47232.html
Sup
It doesn't look terribly realistic, there seems to be a Fire Emblem style almost rock-paper-scissors element at play with the unit types, but as a game it looks awesome.
firefly2442
Ok, what am I missing? The graphics are great and the zoom feature is straight out of Supreme Commander. Where's the actual gameplay? From the videos of gameplay on gametrailers, it's like he isn't even doing anything. You click a unit and tell it to attack and then that's it. Where's the strategy? I felt like I was watching a movie...

I felt like I was watching a movie... It looks like it's structured more like a Turn Based strategy game (specifically the Advance Wars mold) or, if you aren't familiar, a boardgame, in its gameplay. You put units in position to exploit other units, it's less military tactics and more old fashioned game strategy. With all of the glitz and cinema of the realistic ww2 appearance, obviously. Personally i think it's a great idea, it's good to see Ubi going with some creative, non mainstream ideas.
WhiteKnight77
I finally watched the trailer. I am not impressed one bit. While the scenery looks pretty good, once you zoom out, you get those crazy icons/markers that Ubi introduced with GR2. I didn't see the player click on unit actually to order anything. Then the zero showed up on the left side of the screen ala GRAW. I do not see anything special about this game. At least it does not have the TC name on it. firefly2442
Sure, I mean, I'm all for developers to create something new or try something different. What would be kinda cool is some sort of combination of the Supreme Commander view (seems like they already have that), plus Company of Heroes, mixed with 100s of units on screen. It seemed to me the units were moving really fast. Maybe if they brought it down a little and took out the unit icons they could make it really interesting and realistic. Sup
More ruse. I think my impression that it's more like a boardgame was dead on -- this looks deep, subtle, and thought out, but nowhere near realistic. I think it looks cool. Men of war and Theatre of War 2 have me covered as far as realism go. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48097.html
