  1. I always asked to have server side options where all games could allow fireteams to form, define a squad leader, and give them the order system and cross comm capability. I made posts to that effect during GRAW1. Yes. It would be excellent. but you know what? All I really want is the system for Campaign coop. I can't imagine they would take the system to the next level, even though it would make for an amazing squad leaders coop and TvT game.
  2. No offense taken Lightspeed. but your response is very telling in support of my theory. Becuase you did play it, and you got the great rush from it, you think it is the gretest game ever made. That is your perception. Perception is very chemical. The other person thought Farcry was the greatest. I think Battlezone is the greatest game ever made becuase i played it many years ago and got a sustainable and repeatable rush from it for 4 years that has never been felt again by me. (not the ray trace thing in the arcades , the atari FPS/RTS combo thing). So even though I never played it, I "can" possibly understand. I understand that it gave you the awesome chemical rush you got addicted to and you are still seeking to replace and reexperience. And becuase Battlezone gave it to me, I still cry everytime i see the remake, battlezone 2. It failed to achieve that for me too. I will agree that it is not the entire thing. But science says its a key part. that is all i'm saying. Its just a perspective worth considering..... I don't know if any game will ever come along again and replace Battlezone's excitement for me. but I keep hoping.
  3. I'm going to go back to my medical perspective ..... conditioned response ....... you are conditioned to feel that way from back in the day when that game made you feel that way. I felt an enormous amount of tension and gritty fear and palpitations in GRAW1 PC. Others did not. I never played GR1. I'm not conditioned by it. Of course, I don't discount other peoples criticisms. But conditioned response is likely part of the issue.
  4. Yea. I think you never know how these things will really balance out until you implement them and play them for a bit. I'm always amazed how my thoeries about game play run into reality when I'm actually playing. People are funny creatures. they can do the darndest things ..... I look forward to seeing what other games types the mod gods come up with .....
  5. Who said anything about them programming in Silly thing? They could figure out which way theywere being fired upon, and move to a cover that protected them from that angle. preferable falling back. Now whats so silly about that?
  6. This has always been true inthe GRAW series and is the secret to immersive use of your AI. the only way to give them longer legs is to use the Tactical maps with waypoints to move them. Cool idea. Of course, this assumes that a series of numbers are the only thing aafecting the levels of AI. like distance, time to react from that disatnce. awareness trigger values, bullet spread from a distance etc. This is probably mostly true. But I don't know that GRiN would be confortable showing all of us the variables and tables used to govern AI behavior. But what a cool idea.
  7. Thats why I asked the question rather than presume it would work. Who do you think I was actually asking the question to? <Hint: I am not allowed to start threads with the words "@GRiN"> So I think my thread title is right on the money .......
  8. and here is one opinion to counter that reasoning .... http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php...st&p=478791
  9. Your comparison of the thrill of gaming (and its decrease in thrill over time) to drugs is probably not that far off. And this is likely a big part of what you are feeling. The 2 "drugs" wel known to form during gaming are Endorphins (a morphine like molecule) from the central nervous system and Epinephrine (adrenaline) from the adrenal glands (they sit on top of your kidneys). These are powerful substances and have a differnt levels of 'addictiveness" from person to person. It is likely a genetic componenet in so far as how each individual reacts to the addictiveness of these molecules. did you know that the US medical officials recently debated whether or not to add "gaming addiction' to the DSM-4 (a list of recognized pshychiatric and personality disorders allowable as valid diagnosis)? They chose to put the debate on hold for now, until more evidence is collected, however they are certainly considering it. So although there maybe certain gameplay elements missing, it may more likely be that there are endorphins and adrenalin rushes reduced in you that used to be present. You used to be more sensitive to your own internal drugs. It is called "receptor regulation".... when a drug is infused into a person repeatedly, the total number of receptors which respond to that drug change in number over time, thus making it incresaingly more difficult for the "user" to get the high he got previously. As most Herion adddicts can tell you ..... this puts an enormous pressure on game developers. they are trying to create a visceral impact on a huge comunity of long time drug abusers ..... for some of us, we have been expereincing the rush since the first time doom was played in multiplayer back in 1990 ......
  10. I really like RvA mode. But I can't help but wonder if a variant of it wouldn't also be fun. A simple change. I wonder if modders will have the tools to essentially alter the game a bit like so.......... 1. Objectives for one side to deal with. The other side to defend. 2. Both sides have a fixed number of respawns (5 for example) 3. The respawns occur on timers and have no connection to the completion of an objective like they do in RvA 4. Each sides respawn timer is different (so maybe the rebels respawn faster than the ghosts) Thats it. Nothing fancy. just a variant on RvS. Wolf has mentioned in the past that lots of things will be possible with the tools. I wonder if this will be possible.
  11. Wrong. the game is excellent. It just has some cleaning up it needs to make it better.
  12. Yea. this is a simple programming error that they can easily fix. If you look closely, it is being sorted by the denominator (number of players allowed on the server), not the numerator (the number of players actually on the server).
  13. Hi Hammer, As per my post, I have checked the living bejeezuz out of my ports and routers and firewalls. There seems ot be an element of luck or something that allows some to be successful and others not. Did you read my post? Youwould know I checked. It also stated that I can host everything else wihtout issue on the same settings, but If I got to campaign coop, my server is usddenly not visible on the gamespy list. Finally, look around. Many others are reporting the same issue. Its something intefering with this gme type hosting. but we cnnot figure out what it is.
  14. A series of related bugs exist with the red diamond tags being passed to all players in Campaign coop. The way this bug manifests depends on the arragement of people and AI (or not) in the mission. This is in part becuase of the combinations that are possible. (for example 2 humans and 2 AI, or 2 humans and 1 AI, or 3 humans, etc...) I will explain the ones I have seen. I will bet dollars to dimes they are all related to one single flaw in the code. I hope this report helps GRiN find it and fix it. 1. With 2 humans - 1 AI - Tags generated by enemy in sight (i.e. not the drone) are not transmitted to all humans. It is not clear if the tag was initially seen by the AI, and was passed to the host but not the second human, but the second human never saw the tags. The Host human always saw the tags. 2. With 3 humans - No AI - In this game, all humans saw all tags that were generted by direct sight, but only the host human saw the tags generated by the drone positioning. the other humans never saw any of the tags generated by the drone. As I see other combinations and permutations of this bug, I will add them to this top level report.
  15. See my bug report [Now Above] the bottom line is use Hamachi until they fix it. its broken.
  16. I'm wondering if you have tested this after you threw out smoke to occlude their view. How is smoke working?
  17. Yup. the game totally supports non linear environments and non linear objectives. but "Support" does not a non linear map and mission make. it takes support and mission makers and TOOLS. I hope the tools come out soon. Its the only apex missing from the triangle.
  18. Pffft. I prefer anesthesiologist to Gas passer, but I have a sense of humor. So I don't care as long as they don't die on the OR table........ LOL and as far as sliding to irrelevance ... you mean we aren't already there?
  19. wait a rapscallion second. <humor> what was inside my post had nothing to do with the change of topic. the "@GRiN" part was removed from my topic for the reasons you stated. Not for "clarity". that wasn't done to clarify. .....and I accepted that...but... No one touched that internal aspect of my post you just pointed to. I assume because the readers got my point. And I think that "confrontational" bit was actually directed at you.... LOL but it doesn't mean i think negatively about you personally. On the contrary. your a real deal contributor. You say whats on your mind. Just like me. No hidden little pot shots. like...ahem..... I just wanted to make the point that I was trying to make ...... I'll leave the point for that thread. No need to repeat it here. But none of these posts answer the quesiton I actually asked in this thread. I never asked "Why". the "Why" was obvious. Read the topic again. I asked "Who?" but apparently riocky feels the who has potential to go south. so i'll drop it. It really was just ordinary curiousity.
  20. I would agree. It was present in both, but more prevelant in GRAW2.
  21. I realize your trying to rib me a bit, but I'm not getting it. My original post and its topic are clearly linked. Feel free to explain yourself better ..... if your gonna give a guy a hard time, the least you could do is make it clear ....
