Rocky
Saving Pilot Ryan Mod By Jack57 Reviewed by Giwex (Version 2.0) Type : 7 Mission Single Player Campaign Requires : Ghost Recon v1.3, Desert Siege Download Introduction First of all it is only correct to inform readers that I am Jack57?s official beta-tester and friend. In this review I have tried to be as objective and unbiased as possible, and sincerely hope that I have achieved this. Version 1.0 of Saving Pilot Ryan was originally released in the late summer 2001 and, after several improvements, reached version 2.0 in November 2002. Anticipating Red Storm Entertainment with its Jungle Storm Jack57 set his campaign in Colombia. At the invitation of the incumbent government, you are in Colombia, South America, to participate in a joint exercise with the UN and undercover agents from the CIA, with the express purpose of eradicating major drug cartels.. The campaign is 7 missions long, all connected with a very good storyboard based around Pilot Ryan who, during the campaign, is kidnapped by the Colombian military. The mod uses only maps from GR original but Desert Siege pack is required along with patch 1.3. The Missions The first mission is a shock for all the Ghost Recon fans out there. Rather than having tens of tangos to kill, you have to stop them before they destroy a bridge while the UN is trying to distract them. In this mission if you shoot a single bullet before launching a coordinated assault on the rebels at the bridge, they will destroy the bridge and the mission will of course be failed. Therefore the main part of the mission consists in a study of the terrain and the right way to proceed before to launching the full attack ? very much a thinking man?s mission! Although an unusual and difficult mission, for those who persevere the next missions will provide firefights worthy to face. Mission 4 is my favourite one: at the end of mission 3 you were told that Pilot Ryan and Commander Williams have been caught by the enemy. They have been imprisoned at the camp and you have to go (alone) to save them. This is definitely a stealth mission and will take you inside the prison camp but?.. Let me only say that mission 5 will start again on the same map few hours later (hint). Conclusion This campaign was the first from Jack57 but this doesn?t mean it lacks in any aspect. Like ?Postcards from Peru? from the same author, it is an example that you don?t need to create skins, weapons and maps to necessarily create a wonderful campaign. The only aspect someone could note about its age is that it lacks cinematic insertions and extractions, but be assured, this doesn?t mean that you will not be immersed in the novel?. Oops!... the mod. Finally let me tell you a scoop. Originally Jack57 scripted mission 2 and planned to release it as a single mission! Then he changed the idea thus began one of the best scripter of missions out there (can I be biased for this judgement?). Final Score - 8.5/10 Fan Feedback "Very challenging game!!" BlackOps2003 "The final mission in Saving Pilot Ryan is superb. (as is the whole mod, one of my favs)" Schenkanator "Long live Jack's mission mods!? avey2904 Edited August 1, 2008 by Rocky

egobirchy
Yup a good review. Jack, your work is appreciated and I think the community is crying out for more campaigns to become immersed with. To my mind missions make games, not skins or weapons. (though those help too!) Go Jack
Militiaman
I personally thought that the Band of Brothers mod made by Jack57 was his best modification so far. For anyone who doesn't know about the Band of Brothers modification, it deals with the [Ghost Recon] missions only you are fighting on the opposite side against the Ghosts. Real fun but real tough. It is a 10 mission modification.

Giampi
In the review I forgot to mention the wonderful mission 6 when there is a little cameo of Wade Giles! Who doesn't remember the author of Free Russia and Free Libya!

Who doesn't remember the author of Free Russia and Free Libya! ← G-man, I just finished SPR and it is a gem! Congrats to Jack for a real winner! Intense and full of surprises, I was constantly challenged, especially in mission 2 where the fighting was so intense I was praying for the mission to end. I was also pleased with the 2 part rescue mission. It reminded me of Deus Ex and Half-Life, two of my favorites besides GR, of course. IP
