  1. Wait till you see some more screens. That's just the weather/terrain in the area, the game has a pretty complete, realistic palette.
  2. It looks like they tightened up movement a LOT, no more of the old clunky ofp movement. Which isn't exactly an improvement, just a change, but hopefully one that will make the game a lot more appealing to new players. I know a lot of people who got pretty ###### off with ofp/arma's weird movement.
  3. But their last few games haven't met the financial or critical success anyone hoped for, so it's not really surprising considering the climate. They're still better off than a lot of big gaming companies, especially in europe.
  4. Yes, buildings made out of stone appear in a lot of videogames, total ripoff.
  5. Yeah, it'd be cool if it's a nod to GR, but there are a handful of castles in ofp, it's way more likely it's intended to mirror one of them.
  6. Sketchup is a fantastic visualization tool man, dont knock the work just because of the tool you're using. If you want to use the asset for games or a render, sure, youll have to remodel it in max or blender or something and fix some more solid topology, but this is a great way to learn to observe forms. Keep it up
  7. It's very different than CoH. Not as slick, not as polished, not as balanced, but has a lot of subtle chaotic nuance lent by a more realistic approach.
  8. You could say the same about almost any vehicle the US military fields.
  9. More ruse. I think my impression that it's more like a boardgame was dead on -- this looks deep, subtle, and thought out, but nowhere near realistic. I think it looks cool. Men of war and Theatre of War 2 have me covered as far as realism go. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48097.html
  10. Something to keep in mind is that all of the best examples of PC patching (valve, relic, blizzard) are online games played primarily under a server browsers/network maintained by the developer. It's easy to collect data and efficiently deliver patches to their users. This is one of the primary benifits of using an internal system like Steamworks.
  11. Blizzard last patched Diablo 2 in mid 2008 -- the game was released in 2000. Battlefront supports their games spectacularly, the latest Combat Mission game hardly resembles the product that was released two years ago and is still getting updates. That said that may be more out of necessity than good nature, the game was fundamentally broken on many levels when it first released. Valve is still patching and, in the case of their newer games, adding content, to their products regularly.
  12. This, just like the fantastic Red Orchestra, is a full scale remake of an old UT2k4 mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/killing-floor
  13. Hey, the discussion in the RUSE thread reminded me of this, and i didn't see any links around. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=270 Realistic, large scale ww2 strategy from Battlefront and the developers of IL2 sturmovik. TOW 1 was great -- my pc can't run this at the moment, but it's worth checking out on name alone. There's a manual on the site too.
  14. It looks like it's structured more like a Turn Based strategy game (specifically the Advance Wars mold) or, if you aren't familiar, a boardgame, in its gameplay. You put units in position to exploit other units, it's less military tactics and more old fashioned game strategy. With all of the glitz and cinema of the realistic ww2 appearance, obviously. Personally i think it's a great idea, it's good to see Ubi going with some creative, non mainstream ideas.
  15. It doesn't look terribly realistic, there seems to be a Fire Emblem style almost rock-paper-scissors element at play with the unit types, but as a game it looks awesome.
  16. Except it has nothing in common with either game in gameplay. I have to admit, ubisoft has not put out many games that have impressed me since Ubi and RSE's 360 GRAW, but this looks spectacular: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47232.html
  17. I'm not exactly defending the game -- i have no interest in buying it and wouldnt recommend it -- but there are a lot of flyable planes, you just have to earn them through experience. Also, GT review : http://www.gametrailers.com/player/46947.html
  18. I see 77 http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...endwar?q=endwar pc version has a 68? I'm not surprised it's a lower score, it's a port. 360 was, to my knowledge, the primary development platform, it's only fair to judge the game by the platform the team developed it for.
  19. Ubi is definitely releasing a lot of garbage shovelware. However... All of ubi's big name games score consistently pretty well. GRAW, Vegas, hawx, end war, Assasins Creed, Prince of persia -- look them up, they're all 70s-80s on the Metacritic scale. This article isn't exactly an indictment of the Tom Clancey games they've been releasing, they're all scoring just fine on metacritic.
  20. I never agree with you Sup and once again I'm not hmn? I never said i expected a sim, i'm expecting a flight action game with some new wrinkles to the Crimson Skies/Ace Combat/Rogue Suadron gameplay style. WK, there are plenty, and what do you mean by 'turn back the clock'? It seams as if you're proposing any game design feature you don't agree with is archaic. Flight action games usually allow a 3rd person camera, a lot of people play them because they think the planes look cool. Anyway it's obviously a console port, so if i check it out i'll check out the console version -- shame it's got those compatibility issues with the joysticks, stuff like that is the only real, objective quality issue ubisoft keeps having with their games.
  21. You're talking about an 11.5 gigabyte game, here. I don't think steam's servers are at fault.
  22. That isn't exactly unusual or unnecessary though, games have been demanding the newest videocard drivers (or utilizing features exclusive to them) since we got dedicated graphics cards, and i'd have to say the forced update message is a huge stepup from the old inexplicable blank screen crashes we got in a lot of older games. Anyway, i'm surprised at how good of reception you guys are giving HAWX, i may actually have to try it out. I was assuming it'd be nothing more than a straightforward Ace Combat clone, and seeing as i'm pretty content with the AC series i wasn't planning to check it out. It must have something more to offer if it's impressing you guys, so i'll give it a try when i can
  23. I wasn't really looking to make a big deal out of any of this. I'm not attacking the entire community, or anyone in it -- i'm just pointing out the silliness of lightspeed 'shuddering to think' of a person's first experience being to work on an award winning top selling title.
  24. Show me who blindly criticized Ubisoft or attacked the developers in this thread! i shudder to think..... "my first experience of Ghost Recon was GRAW..."
  25. Just to correct that misnomer, the developers do indeed pay this community heed, they have a history of it, and continue to do so. Trying to link an individuals personal opinion regarding a publishers financial viability to the attention a developer is likely to take of a communitys feedback on game mechanics is absurd. It's more of a general attitude and less of an individual person, but i stand corrected -- i guess i was basing my assumption on the general attitude around here that Ubi and RSE are 'abandoning their old fans'.
