Streinger
Well, almost a year ago, when posting my reply to "member information" topic, under the "past, present, future military?" question, I stated my past military experiance, and added that I would like to re-join Croatian army and participate in some peace keeping mission our guys are involved.... Two days ago a fax came in my health center, where I work as a paramedic, named "A questionere about willing to participate in humanitarian and peace keeping missions abroad". I emidiately picked up a phone and dialed a contact number at the bottom. Here's what the guy on the other end explained to me; right now, only Croatian military police is deployed in Afghanistan, as a part of a German contingent, which is providing logistic, medics, communications and what-not for our guys. As Croatia is expanding it's participation in the mission, it might soon happen that it will be given it's own controll zone in Ghanny. So they will need their own logistic, infantry, what-not...and medics. The purpose of the questionere was to determine which of the registered nurses, doctors etc. were likely candidates to be included in such mission. There were plenty of "trick-questions", like to what time you are willing to commit in such mission, with offered replies of 1 month, 3 months, less then 6 months, and 6 months and more. As one rotation in Ghanny is for a 6 month period, all those who chose any of the first 3 replies will be scratched off... There was also free space where an aplicant was asked to write down any special request he or she might have, should he or she are chozen to participate. A lot of doctors demanded guaranteed specialization after the mission, or demanded extremly high fees....only to be scratched from the list... As the guy explained to me, what they are offering is the standard deal our MPs were given; you are not losing your regular job, in fact, the contract prevents your imployer to fire you while away on the mission, and you are still receiving your regular fee, plus the Army is paying you $80 per day and a fat life insurance should anything happen to you. You would serve there as a part of Croatian military contingent, in uniform, should you chose to, and you would be allowed to carry a sidearm. The only thing I had to add was "throw in a small-arm, and I'm all yours!" Seriously, should it come to this, I will do my best to be issued at least a SMG.. So guys, if I suddenly disappear from GR forum, it just might be cause I'm somewhere in Kabul....

Giampi
Maybe we would meet there if I could find a job for a company working on the reconstruction of that devasted country. People there need to be helped and I'm willing to help them!
