  1. Kane here Does the news of GR2 mean there will not be a third expansion pack to GR1? I was hoping for a Central Asia terrorist hunt mission pack (a pseudonym for the Bin Laden hunt in Afghanistan), or a Siberian/North Korea winter mission pack. If not, then oh well.
  2. Was this the gator found in Alley Pond Park? If so that's not far from where I lived - near the Fresh Meadows cinemas. Small world.
  3. Kane here Here are my thoughts -the ability for characters to jump isn't a bad idea, especially in rough or urban terrain. -bigger maps in which vehicles would be essential to movement. We're supposed to have long range sniper rifles - I want to use them at 1000 yds or more. -vehicles are crucial to Special ops, as proven in the last Gulf War, and should be a part of the game, like they are in OFP. I think a special HMMWV with 3 positions and 2 weapons ought to be developed. One man can drive, and the other two operate the weapons (ie. a .50 cal or 40mm AGL). Perhaps an anti-tank weapon like a TOW or MILAN could be included. Of course this would work best in multi-player. Helicopters and boats are too complicated, so keep them restricted to full motion video, like in IT. -enemy vehicles like the technical trucks used in DS ought to be modified to allow them to be destroyed by gunfire, grenades or rockets. Right now the only way to stop them is to kill the crew, which is not easy at long range. They did this, most likely, to level the playing field. But who wants to fight fair. They have the numbers and usually the firepower. -artillery or airpower would be useful. I recall the games "Gunship 2000" and "M1 Tank Platoon" (now 13 years old!!!) which allowed players to call on air and artillery assets within the game. All one had to do was put the crosshairs on the target to order the bombardment. In GS2000, only one air attack and three artillery attacks could be ordered, with significant delays between them. M1TP varied its support weapons between SP mortars, arty, Apaches or Kiowas, or A-10s. It could be useful for attacking distant targets or distracting the enemy. -The kits must be adjustable. Rogue Spear was great because 4 positions were available for kit. In GR2, an additional position should be allowed. The latest GR patch had the priceless improvement by making the binoculars standard to each man. I've wanted to have sensors or claymores available with sniper rifles or support weapons. The existing kits are adequate, though more than 2 claymores or sensors should be allowed. -The variety of weapons could be broadened. I would love to have the M14 or the M21 sniper rifle around. An M4 SOPMOD with M203 would be nice too. -The camoflage should be adjustable too. -Someone mentioned allowing MP3s instead of WAVs. This is a great idea. It was done on the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 3. I can see it now, having a firefight set to the music of the 1812 overture! -Opponents could be selected by a "torn from the headlines" fashion similar to the TV show "Law and Order". Rather than rip it off and use the War on Terrorism or War in Iraq (like Delta Force rather poorly did in "Task Force Dagger" and "Black Hawk Down"), the Ghosts' opponents could be inspired by them - i.e. a mission to a central asian country to hunt down a terrorist mastermind who attacked Western targets. It is similar to the real events, but certain facts have been changed. Of course there are always mods... GR is such a good game as it is, with great combat gameplay and superb multiplayer. It will be fun to see what Ubisoft has in store for us. Kane out
  4. Yup. Smith's best, in my opinion. Right! I loved this movie - very quotable. Here's mine - "He's what you might call the best-equipped dentist in the army"
  5. If God wanted us to be vegetarians, he would not have made meat so tasty.
  6. Barbarella Taxi Driver Caddyshack French Connection "The battle of France is over, but the Battle of Britain is just beginning" Battle of Britain (1969 Michael Caine movie) These two of mine are still up:
  7. Kane here This reminds me of the time the town of Fredonia, NY (west of Buffalo) protested the Marx Brothers movie "Duck Soup", which featured a fictional country called "Freedonia". Groucho said "Change the name of your town, it's hurting our picture". PETA is still reeling from their disasterous campaign that compared eating meat to the Nazi Holocaust. They aren't helping themselves by doing things like this. Kane out
  8. Ruin: Henrik Ibsen's "The Doll House" That's an obscure one - and yes it is a movie. Here's a new one: "They're trying to tell us that we all wants to be white!" "but isn't that true?"
  9. and Two different movies. Romeo must die Sphere Kamikazi: I admit that you have stumped me. Even with those clues it's not clear. bkriley: I have Yojimbo on DVD, but only once have I seen it at the local video store. Keep looking and you might find it. Stallone did not have that line in Judge Dredd - he barely had any beyond "I am.....THE LAW".
  10. Kane the great returns from marching over bkriley's grave Just kidding - okay here's the answer: "Stagecoach", a 1939 western that made John Wayne a true movie star. Given that Wayne made so many westerns, it is surprising that you can't get into them. He was never better than in the saddle before John Ford's cameras, especially in the Cavalry Trilogy or "The Searchers". He was also great in Howard Hawks' "Red River" - when Ford saw it, he reportedly said "I didn't know the big lug could act!". Wayne made so much garbage late in his career that his true greatness is often lost. If he had good direction, as provided by Ford, Hawks and others, he was magnificent and worthy of his reputation as an American screen legend. Okay next quote is an easy one: "You shouldn't hang me on a hook. My father hung me on a hook once...once". ruin: you can come back - it's only a friendly game
  11. Hey guys - we've done the favorite movies topic before, so why don't we try our favorite TV shows. I'll start Law and Order - I am an L and O junkie. Watch it every week. I even saw it being filmed in Central Park. Drew Carey - A funny show with characters I can relate to. I even went to Cleveland 2 years ago. Simpsons - c'mon...the show of the 90s! It would be hard to imagine modern culture without the Simpsons of Springfield. Futurama - a totally underrated show from the same people who made "The Simpsons". It's funny as hell with great characters and situations drawn from all corners of science fiction. King of Queens - I used to live in Queens, so this show brings it home for me. It's not the best show out there, but it works for me.
  12. Kane here I just turned 30 - I still can't believe I play video games, but I have no regrets.
  13. Kane the Magnificent here bkriley: it appears that your knowledge of westerns is not perfect. I will give you a hint and an additional line: Two men are operating the telegraph. which suddenly cuts out "What did you get" "Only the first word" "Geronimo" The movie is a classic John Ford-John Wayne western, but not one of the "Cavalry Trilogy" of "Fort Apache", "She wore a yellow riboon", and "Rio Bravo" (all great, great films).
  14. Kane here Hey - been busy. My application for school was rejected yesterday, so I'm a little bummed. Ruin: pack your bags! Chicken Run Delta Dude: "The Untouchables" - Sean Connery says it to Charles Nelson Reily. This one's still up for grabs.
  15. Blade? I said that - me, Ferris Bueller. What North American aged 25-35 doesn't know that movie off by heart? It's one of my personal favorites. It's "Snatch", natch. And my quote was not from "Dillinger". Ruin: *Yawn* Fifth Element. Rule #1 guys: do not use the "Memorable Quotes" section on the Internet Movie Database. Geez do I watch too many movies!
  16. Kane here Ruin: *Yawn* Bruce Willis to Will Patton in "Armageddon" Here's another: "How in the name of ZEUS'S BUTTHOLE did you manage to get out of your cell?"
  17. Swordfish: Oh gee, a toughie. I bought this DVD last week: "West Side Story". bkriley: It's not right - Mohicans were in the Eastern US. The Cheyenne and Apaches were in the West.
  18. Kane here Necron: YES!! Finally someone has the answer. Cardinal Wolsely (Orson Welles) said "You opposed me in the council this morning Thomas" to Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield). More also said "I am commanded by the king to be brief, and since I am the king's obedient subject, brief I will be. I die His Majesty's good servant, but God's first. " shortly before he is executed. My next quote: "He's a Cheyenne. They hate Apaches more than we do!"
  19. Kane the Great here Necron: nope, it's not "Cromwell" Okay here is my final hint: It won the best picture Oscar in 1966. Here's an additional quote: "I am commanded by the king to be brief, and since I am the king's obedient subject, brief I will be. I die His Majesty's good servant, but God's first. " This was a fantastic movie. Kane
  20. Kane the Great here Ruin: not Joan of Arc - Henry VIII was over a century later. Need another hint?
  21. Kane the Great here Ruin: it wasn't SOAF - not even close. Here's the hint: the movie was based on a play about the politics of Henry VIII of England. I should get some points for this.
  22. Xavier: not even close. Do you need a hint?
  23. Kane here Firefly: nope, it's not "To Kill a Mockingbird", which was an excellent movie. Let's keep this going. Kane out
  24. Kane here ChrisCool: Top Gun Kamikazi: nope, not "The Patriot".
