Rocky
Long detailed reveiw of the latest GRFS build from the Guardian. But the missions already seem to have that quiet, gripping appeal, and the prospect of playing with three friends, approaching an enemy blockade from numerous different directions is as appealing as it always was. Read the full article here. Interesting to see that of the 5 comments already on that page, one is about DRM. I haven't had a chance to read the full article though, so post it up if there are any gems in there!
Parabellum
Honestly, the article makes GR: FS sound a lot more fun than past previews have indicated. I'd almost be willing to try it, if it weren't for the DRM scheme that's coming with GR:FS. (Cross-thread points, anyone?) Now, if only Ubi would ditch all the futuristic stuff. While Red Storm games have always featured nifty, futuristic things (heartbeat detectors and the OICW, for instance) those gadgets weren't major features of the games, or even all that important. What was and should be important is the action itself. In the end, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon were about tactics. Ubi still seems to be using gadgetry as a major selling point of the series, rather than letting the action speak for itself, and letting the gadgets simply be tools to get the "job" done. Hammer
It sound good, but, My worrie is that the people that are reviewing this game and some of the dev,sn in the UBI vids keep refering to the original feel of Ghost Recon and i think ah great. Only to be let down a few seconds later when they add Advanced warfighter on the end of the sentance
5timechamp
"This was, of course, the era of the squad-based shooter genre, brought to prominence by the likes of Hidden and Dangerous and Rainbow Six, then carefully honed to console perfection via the excellent Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter titles" ugh..so much wrong there...the SP was/is so clunky, the squad gameplay broken...at least ghost recon 2 & Summit Strike hold up gameplaywise....the same cant be said of the GRAW console campaigns...the multiplayer while playable was ultimately too outdated to remain relevant......this isnt me just tossing some hate in its direction, I was fiddling with Graw 2 campaign today and somehow wound up in various situation where the "honed to perfection" squad AI would walk up to the enemy and refuse to shoot..... Anyhow, in regards to the preview at hand...the focus on tech still remains overwhelming, it wouldnt be so bad if the devs. actually gave the players the option to ignore the most "overpowered" gear.....the threat of the game being a "low wall simulator" hangs over its head. at least it seems we are getting indoor environments once again.....It would be nice if they punched up the sound effects a little bit..
