My EVGA 8800 GTX sadly is dying.

I'm getting red horizontal lines across the display whenever I load anything graphically intensive and then the whole system locks up. In my infinite wisdom, I neglected to turn in the warranty paperwork in time so I can't RMA the card. Give my motherboard:

What kind of a performance hit would I get buying a PCI express x16 2.0 card and putting it in a motherboard that only supports PCI express x16 1.0?

I'm not sure if I should just spend like $75 dollars and get a basic card that will work and build a separate whole new system from scratch, or if I should buy a really nice card and try to extend my system for another 6 months to a year...

Suggestions? Thanks.

Everything I've read pretty much states that the 2.0 slots may have twice the bandwidth as the 1.0 slots but it hardly ever uses any more than what the 1.0 slots offer anyhow and you may never be able to see any difference while playing games.
