Cell
Ladder List? Since I never really dealt with Gamespy Arena before (before last April I played all of my games on a MAC), what's the deal with it? How does it work?
Colin
I was wondering the same as the details are not very forthcomeing or obvious. I have asked the tec guy who is running it to pop in and give us a full brief.
Colin
This is an update I got today re how this works. [GSI]Spiff Product Manager "Hey -- we'll get these posted ASAP. In the mean time, it might be enough for you to note that Arena ladders typically use an Elo ratings system, widely used by multipleyer games to calculate rankings, and adapted from Chess: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system Basically, it rewards you with ratings points based on your expectation of victory against your opponents. So, if they're very high ranked, and you are very low ranked -- and you beat them -- you're going to receive a relatively larger ratings boost due to the expectation of that outcome being so low. This is a great way to determine the "true skill" of players in a ladder environment, and also a great way to prevent cheating (two players can't collude to play a ton of matches against one another, with one player constantly losing, because, match after match, the rewards approach zero as their ranks separate further and further apart). For the GRAW2 ladders, we have modified this slightly, aggregating & avergaing the Elo scores of players on each team involved in a match, then using that to set the expectation of victory and thus the ratings points at stake for players." I hope that helps. It also has been said for the full version Ranking will cover TDM too.
Panic
so it's purely based on if your team wins or loses and not individual performance?
LARSA
so it's purely based on if your team wins or loses and not individual performance? Looks like that. And if so thats good imo.
