firefly2442
Man, I'm got loads of problems here today. I finally realized today that it's probably that time again to wipe my computer and start from scratch. Ok, sounds fine. I made a list of everything I need and backed up all my stuff to my external hard drive. Pop in the Win XP cd and reboot... and it boots off the hard drive. I go into the BIOS and nowhere does it show ATAPI cd drives or any cd drives for that matter. I've got the latest BIOS firmware. Would the next step be to reset the jumpers and have the motherboard detect the hardware again? Thanks for the help.
snakebite1967
Try pressing f8 while its booting see if it gives u a quick boot sequence order, if so go ahead and boot from cd

Dannik
Have you considered booting via the floppy drive (assuming your computer even has one)?
firefly2442
I'll give that a shot.
firefly2442
Well, I can boot from the floppy but I still can't access the CD drives in order to install XP.....
Dannik
Is there any chance, no matter how slim, that the IDE cable for the optical drive is loose or intermittent? Same deal with the IDE controller on the drive? Do you have a different drive to swap out with? Anything in the motherboard manual about the CMOS and drive detection? CR6
Most BIOSes in the last several years allow you to manually detect the CD drive using the BIOS. (Usually the first subsection in the BIOS screen) Also make sure the CD drive jumpers are set properly to master.
firefly2442
Got it working. Had to remove the battery to reset the motherboard and redetect everything. Format went smoothly. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for the help.
