  1. I will not attempt to argue your position. Becuase my position is unrelated to the publisher. It is simply that in order to save the Genre we love, we all have a reposnability to take some risks and spend some money. Period. I see no other way. We have to pick a team and go with it. And right now, GRiN is that team. Independat of the publisher they are linked to. Also, I find it odd that people think UBI is somehow an ultimate villian in all this. To me, they are simply a business trying to manage fiscal success is a jungle of an industry. And When I look at ym games collection, I see many that are Ubisoft and many form them that I like and continue to like. I feel the reality of UBI as a business and the myth of UBI as a villian just don't sync up. They have a fiduciary resposability to their share holders first and foremost. I'm not saying all tehir choices are the right choices. and it is likely that sometimes, corporate choices do not always serve tehir customers or their shareholders. But overall, all corporations try to make decisions that work for them. I do not see UBI as uniquely bad at this process. In fact, based on tehir recent profits, I see them as mostly effective. I see the "villian" thing an artifact of the reality that they own some IPs that guys liek us are so passionate about, that they can almost never make a decision that pleases the hardcores. P.S. When is that GRAW2 RLC server coming online?
  2. The CEO of GRiN posted right here on these forums that this 4 week thing was a myth. He referred all of us to recall how many months of support we got from them last time on their last game. His message was clear.
  3. As I said in my original post, I believe we are shooting ourselves in the foot if we take such a hard line on a product that is ... -->A. Pretty good ... lots of fun already, albeit less than perfect. -->B. In the Genre we love which is obviously dissappearing (Even though we want to see the fan base grow so the Genre can grow). -->C. Made by a company that showed tremendous support last time. Someimtes, you gotta extend some faith. You gotta take a risk to help the thing you love. Based on GRiNs support through last summer on GRAW1, I feel it is not Blind Faith. When that risk is $100,000, you need to move very cuatiously. When that risk is $50, IMHO, its a no brainer. But thats just my philosophy. I do not expect others to share my philosphy. But I hope they will consider it.
  4. Right. these do not require anything special. the USB plug is simply used to power the force feedback mechanism and the LEDs. The thing plugs right into your sound card and microphone jack in the normal way as well.
  5. In some recent thread somehwere (probably in the modding section), i noticed that the kits can be "modded". but I think they said that the client and the server **BOTH** has to have the kit mod for it to work (or the anticheat will prevent it from making it onto the server) Anyway, this is what I recall. If I recall it correctly, some servers will have required mods to join. It would be far more preferable if each server had control over its clients in so far as to what mods appear on the client side.
  6. Please give us a local phone number to a pizza joint so we can order you a large pizza and some Pepsi (I didn't say beer becuase we want you are at your most alert and congent and I didn't say Coke becuase someone would inevitably imply that I wasn't talking about cola.)
  7. Personal attacks on any member of GR.net is a personal assault on all its members. It means that every member is potentially about to be a victim of internet intimidation and rudeness and it creates an atmosphere of paranioa and censorship. Its internet bully nonsense and the line is clearly crossed. It means that anyone who may have otherwise participated in good faith in this thread now has to be concerened about being personally attacked. Rocky, We all come to here to debate. and sometimes even with passion and conviction. But we do not come here to be called stupid or noobs or whatever. I am growing weary of this thread and the name calling that is starting to emerge. It is starting to reduce GR.net to look like every other rude and immature forum out there. Please do not allow this to occur. Please close this thread. It has more than run its course.
  8. No battereis. All USB powered. I bought mine online. apparently, they have a new, 5.1 version out. http://www.edimensional.com/index.php?ref=...te_banner_id=13
  9. Can AI "Buddy pairs" be modded to react to one buddies death, If you kill one AI, the guy next just sits there... Although I like a lot of things about the AI (I'm actually one of the guys who thinks they got a lot more right than they got wrong), I'm wondering if the AI buddy pairs can be modded to react to the death of the other guy in the pair. We have all seen it by now. You shoot one guy,and the other guy standing 5 feet from him doesn;t seem to notice or react. Shouldn't he move and take cover? or fall back to cover? or run like a scared littel girl? Anyway, i was wondering if this obvious lack of awareness seen in emeny AI at times is moddable to be better?
  10. Wow. this old post got resurrected. nice to see it has a few votes on the poll too. I would still love to see squad formations reoccur in the new coop (old [GR] coop) if we have a squad leader, we could respawn on leader. And of course, i would like to squad leaders have the order tools with cross comm 2.0... just like the poll asks people about. Ah.... if but to dream ........
  11. Well Dazza, I have no inside information on GRiNs relationship with UBI. But I have been in teh video game business for abotu 10 years now and have worked with many publishers and developers. So take my expereince with a grain of salt. but it is based on real experince. Sometimes, Publishers do not permit developers to continue support on their porducts. but this is less common. In most cases that I have come across, publishers do not agree to "PAY THE DEVELOPER" for that support. What this means is that often times, a developer has the right to provide as much support to the product as they want, but not at the publishers expense. At their own expense. And often times, they are not permitted to alter the basic storiline or technology being simulated and some such things as the IP belongs to the publisher. But the basics of making a game less buggy and more fleshed out in terms of features that may have gotten pulled, is often not restricted. Especially when the publisher doesnt have to pay a dime for the ongoing support. To take this discussion a little farther, some contracts between publishers and developers define just how long a publisher wil pay a developers to support the product based on a chart comparing total sales and rate of sales. Sometimes, the publisher, based on the contract, is only obligated to support the developer for example, 3 guys for 6 weeks as a result of the first 6 weeks of sales. But the developer may choose to put guys on it for 12 weeks. The delta is at the expense of the Developer. finally, the support controls often contracted relate to the pre agreements for follow on products. What I am saying is that I have learned about many different contract stipulations through the years between developer and publisher. but rarely have I seen a publisher, who stands to profit more if more sales occur, limit a devloper who wants to support their product at their own expense.
  12. Me thinks Papa's onotomotopiea was a double entendre ... LOL
  13. Muhahaha MUHAHAHAHA I am the uncontested champion of the world and you have no chance to overtake. Surrender now or suffer the consequences of humiliation. My typos can kick your typos ######.
  14. yup. I read the posts. i was here throughout the "saga". Their loss IMHO. but I see how it happened. i'm just more patient. I always look back after patches. its just common sense considering the history of PC gaming as a whole. I'm sure you know that GRiN probably had little to do with that decision. the publishers typically bear the burden of the burn rate and determine their own release dates. The typical battle is between devs who want more time and pubs who demand a release date. So that comment may be off target .... For me it was a must have. And for anyone who loves coop, its a must have (IMHO). Its also a great SP game. wait? I loved TDM too. and BTW. domination was a ton of fun. oh well..... such are the diversity of opinions ... Well. Now we have found common ground .... We remain on the same page .... especially the mod part ... the exansion part will depend, at least in part, on total sales. Becuase explansions always sell less than the original ... so back to my original post ... Me too. Me too.
  15. Why don't you take you and a couple of your buddies and play one of the squads here head to head. You'll come back humbly admitting that humans are more difficult to play against. I love smack talk as long as it remains non-personal like this. It means that teh clans are passionate enough about what they have to consider competition. This is overall good for GRAW2 I'm not sure, but I don't think so. I shouldn't say to much here as I don't have all the facts on how this works. I know you can control the "detection range" for the enemy, like done on mission07 to simulate night time conditions. We played Quarry and Timber using Mission 07 night enviroment and we all noted a difference in the AI. I even made it to the end with no deaths and max kills on Hardcore. The snipers on the ledges didn`t respond until we pushed further than usual. 50 cal gunners we were able to see and not get our heads blown off! Interesting! Tinker I've been waiting to see your input Tinker. I'm glad the modders are seeing the possabilities. I can't wait to see the missions you guys come up with.
  16. Rocky, It appears you are mixingf GRAW1PC FAQ info with GRAW2. this may prove to be confusing. How so? The above link takes you to a page that has "GRAW 2 PC - Gameplay Support" as a title and "GRAW 2 PC - Gameplay Support" as the highlighted button in the menu bar on the left, it is clearly for GRAW2. The FAQ has seperate sections for each game. Doh! Let me look again. I could have sworn info from GRAW1 was in the same FAQ.... EDIT: OK. your right. Its my Alzheimers kicking in again .....
  17. Actually Rocky, the Flashing lights have proven to be useful as well. My wife and I refer to them as "Wife lights". Since they only bounce around during intense noise, and since she can see them, she knows to wait for them to pass before she attempts to talk to me. Thats no Gimmick!!! that's down right utility!
  18. Hit boxes use geometry exported with the model from Max. So you can't add or change the boxes themselves. You could play around in the XML files though which is where the use of them is defined, although I wouldn't recommend it unless you've figured out what you are doing. If I did it, it **would** be a wreck. Becuase I don't mod. I am just trying to get as much discussion going on the mod aspects as possible before the tools come out so the guys who **DO** know what they are doing have as much info at their fingertips as possible. By engaging you in these ways, iyt is my hope to probe the edges adn ideas, and give more info to modders so they can get ready for the "editor days". Thanks for all you share with us.
  19. I'm sorry you feel this way. I do not view GRAW2 as a Blunder at all. Not even close. To me it gets an 84% with room to grow if the patches come out right. I do not know how serious you are of a passionate Tac-sim fan. But i feel taking such a position on a product as good as GRAW2 (IMHO, obviously not yours) is only to punish yourself and the Genre we all love. You may be shooting yourself in the foot. but I respect your position. It is just not my position.
  20. Hey, Rocky! If I post a picture of this, what's the likelihood it will get deleted? ROTFLMAO Cangaroo.... OK? who let cangaroo out of the rubber room? and who helped him out of his "jacket"?
  21. I respect your position Retlaw. But did you make this call before version 1.35 or after? I thought the initial release of GRAW1 was stunted, bt I thought 1.35 was a classic and still play it today ... but independant of our feelings about GRAW1, I want people to consider that by buying GRAW1, we made it to GRAW2. in the minds og some, they paid $100 for GRAW2. Not in my mind, but in the mind of some. It took GRAW1 to get to GRAW2. And now we have something that given enough sales, might get supported to a level that makes it a wonderful thing for a long time to come. it starts with mod tools. then some hard coded patches. Would i have paid $100 for GRAW2? No comment. But I didn't have to. I got a ton of value out of GRAW1 in route to GRAW2. I'm sorry you didn't. But GRiN's support on GRAW1 was nothing short of spectacular.
  22. Or copied it into a TXT file on my desktop for now. LOL. OK then. I'll just keep buggin you then until you confirm its presence in your engineer's bug data base .... LOL but I apprecaite your honesty and I assume these things get to the database eventually .... right?
