Tinker
Hmm was not expecting this. Sure they first said this game may be for 4 player coop and may have mod tools? Great way to get the pre-orders up eh? EA has explained why Battlefield 3 does not feature modding tools. "As of now we are not going to make any modding tools, no," EA senior vice president Patrick Soderlund confirmed to German website GameStar.de. Why? Because Battlefield 3 is so complex, creating a mod would be too hard. "If you look at the Frostbite Engine and how complex it is, it's going to be very difficult for people to mod the game," Soderlund explained. "Because of the nature of the set-up of levels, the destruction, it's quite tricky. "So we think it's going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod." Operative
In other words, they are calling some of the most experienced and capable modders out there that sometimes do better than the developers of incapable. Never underestimate your modding community EA.
Tinker
Anyone interested, here is the link to the topic over at the EA forums: DICE confirms NO Mod Tools for BF3 Yeah i think it would of been a lot simpler to just say there will be no mod tools and be done with it. Trying to undermind people with that statement is not going down well over there.
Operative
Diablo 3 will not feature mod tools. This is stating what I fear will become a trend (some people say it's because of DRM).
ROCO*AFZ*
I would think it's more so you play the game, get your fix then buy the next one instead of playing the same game
Operative
Yeah Roco, good point. After all, mods are for free.
Tinker
Yep, not much point in releasing free to play games, that can allow you to purchase items, that modders could create, I guess. Not sure it is about the DRM, well maybe it is in the mix. More of a way to defeat piracy, without actually tackling piracy? Some day God himself, will make a stand, and remove any link on the internet that allows a user to down a file for free, that should normally cost something? Plus spank the owner of the site that hosted the link. Who owns the internet? Somebody somewhere must have an overall command on this, no? Piracy solved.
