An Open Invitation to My Fellow Ghost Recon Fans

Although I have already posted about this in the main Heroes Unleashed thread, I think it got buried quickly in the other discussion activity over there, so I start a new topic specifically for this purpose in hoping that it may attract your undivided attention.

Heroes Unleashed is a huge undertaking and I would love to realize many more features in its future. As the mod is a tribute to all the people in the Ghost Recon community and an attempt to revive the old-school spirit of this great all-time classic game that we love, I invite everyone to join me on this endeavor and participate in working on this.

Whether you are a mission scripter, 3D modeler, texture artist, sound designer, web developer, or you just have a general interest in Ghost Recon's future and want to contribute something else - I welcome and appreciate your cooperation. Please leave a post here in this thread if you are willing to get involved in the future development of Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed.

Thank you!

Update

Although this thread might not reflect it, but there have been some initial reactions to my invitation through PM's that I received from a number of fellow modders here, and I am optimistic that some interesting cooperation can be shaped for the future of Heroes Unleashed.

Asked about the use of PM's over a post here, some of you voiced your opinion that an "official" commitment in this thread may entail too much expectation - either from the general public or maybe even from me - so I think it may be wise to put something on record here in an attempt to make this more approachable.

When I invited cooperation, it's not that I want to people to "sign up" and find themselves in a tightly written project planning with prescribed work hours for every day of the week. If someone offers e.g. a single new map, or a mission script, or a game type - any one of those is more than welcome. Most of us here have jobs, families, and other obligations, and I am aware that any modding activity will probably (and rightly so) take second place to real life.

On top of that, I don't like rushing things, and I don't think there is any need for that in Heroes' regard, either. The mod (hopefully) already offers some fun and variety as it is right now, and even if just the mission and game type scripting plus some fine-tuning of existing content gets done for the summer release, with new content implemented at a later stage through updates, I don't think it would be all that bad.

So there is no pressure at all - anyone interested can work on his/her own schedule, doing the things you like to do in the time frame you set for yourself. And of course there is still no obligation to post here - if you feel more comfortable with sending me a PM, by all means please do so.

Respectfully,

ApexMods

I've always preferred modding somewhat independently (though, like most, I enjoy getting feedback during the development process). This is why I generally hesitate to sign up for large projects like this. Having said that, however, I would be lying if I said that I didn't eagerly desire my mapping work to be taken up by other modders and incorporated into other projects. Looking back on Outpost, I can see now that maps often need to be embedded within a broader cohesive project to gain much play (this isn't a complaint about lack of appreciation of my work: even Oso's Mosque map has not seen as much play as I would expect).

Releasing HH - Airport got me back into the swing of things and has made me eager to work on the (slightly) larger idea I originally had in mind for the map. While I'll still be releasing my own project, I'll also prepare various permutations of the map (like day, night and "stormy" versions) so that it can be utilized by modders in several different scenarios. I'm also not opposed to making alterations in order for other modders to more fully adopt my work in their own.

In other words, I'm happy for my work to go into Heroes and if anyone is developing a more coherent campaign for it, for which they need modifications of my work, I may be able to help.

Thank you, H-Hour! It is my pleasure and honor to cooperate with you in the future and implement any of your excellent creations in Heroes Unleashed. I very much appreciate any time and effort you can spare for the mod and look forward to your development participation, in whatever way you want that involvement to be.
