mr.pibb
Hey, I got an area where I have two teams that are all assigned to one trigger plan- which involves defend Zone with three defense stations in the zone.. I am really new to using defend zone, I have gathered from word searching here that during defend zone the team(s) will randomly move from station to station within the zone, but it seems they only move once after the plan is started. Lastly, what do the defense station priority settings do? Christian Edited March 16, 2004 by mr.pibb
Jack57
Defend Zone - To make a Defend Zone, use Add Zone to create a zone in the area that is to be defended, and then use the Defend Zone Plan Step immediately afterward. This Zone does not need to avoid collision walls nor does it need to be over a floor. It does, however, need Stations placed within it, at least one Station per Actor on the Team the Plan is assigned to, and usually more. Do not change the properties of the Stations that are created for Defend Zones. I find that if you don't have more stations than members of the team set to use them they may not move from one to to the other or if they do they might squabble over them. Don't know about the priority setting as I have never tested it. It may cause them to prefer ones with higher priority. Best way to find out is create a small test mission and watch what happens. migryder
I tried the priority stuff once upon a time, but have found that stations all set to highest priority will yield the most movement. I could swear I've seen a comment on that in the RSE guides, but maybe not. Jack is right about the competing for a station, I have even seen that behaivor in indoor stations when there are more than enough, a two man team fighting to occupy one station when there were at least five. That may of had to do with the fact that the same plan would be assigned to a "mouse" who might get teleported there(so five for three), or I may have had the priorities set differnetly, but I think it had more to do with getting as far from the sound of grenades out in the yard as possible! My attitude is place a station in as many good positions to create fields of fire as common sense allows, makes the tangos more unpredictable and gives them more options for their defense tactics. I have been experimenting with indoor/outdoor defend zones and will soon release a mod with those. Makes taking down a house a whole new ball game. Just pay attention to which way doors open and don't clog up pathways. mig Edited March 17, 2004 by migryder
mr.pibb
Ah, thanks Jack and Migryder That just about covers the issue with the soldiers not moving(3 defense staions to 9 guys- oops) I thought the same Jack, that the higher priorities meant the guys would have a higher probability of going to those stations rather then the lesser ones- it would have to be tested to be sure tho. The grenades do funny things eh migryder, its basically the one thing that will wreck an all costs order, I was there too, I had to re-arm alot of the enemies in my cinematics with no grenades because I found them sending the allies away and out of camera view when they chucked grenades at em. Nice replies, thanks for the help Christian
