  1. Fancy meeting you in **THIS** Thread ... Did you know that GRAW2 for the PS3 just released a demo for the PS3 a couple of days ago? (I know you guys didn't make it) But with my new mouse, I'm at least gonna give the demo a try and see if coop would be cool .... I got my PS3 over christmas ... Also, as far as I know, the mouse and keyboard that went with the PS2 (and the wireless keyboard already available for the PS3) does not allow you to play games with them. Just manage text and "mouse based software" like linux applications ... But the mouse you see imaged in this thread plays in games. and it behaves like a PC mouse. not like a analog stick on a mouse. It's sweet ...
  2. So if I understand you correctly, the ability to pick and choose the quotes you want removed by an app would require that the app know how to parse through the entire bank file and know where one "quote" starts and ends, so it could replace those portions with blanks. 2 questions .... Would a blank cuase the game to crash Would an altered file cuase people to not be able to join anti cheat protected games?
  3. Actually Tinker, this is a very interesting idea for a mod. a simple application that identifies every single phrase available, and then allows the user to "check mark" the ones he likes and leave unchecked the ones he doesnt. then the mod could replace the ones he doesn't like with an "empty" sound file. this way, when the file is called, its a split second of silence, but the file "is found" so the app doesn't crash. Is this a real possability? do the sound files actually exist as individual statements in a subfolder and not as a massive single, inseperable file? or hard coded inside the software? Is this approach actually possible?
  4. And yet their home page uses references to GRAW2 .... It is odd ...
  5. It'll should turn off everything they say. Thats too bad. I wish there was a way to seperate the useful things they say from the nagging stuff. I like it when I give a cover order, for example, and they say "Coverng Northwest" Or when they make specific contact calls. I just dont like the annoying prompting and the "Way to go sir" stuff. So wolf? Is it possible for some modder to be able to change or eliminate certain calls while leaving others? or is this stuff pretty hard coded?
  6. Oddly, all the Ageia videos out there do not include GRAW. seems odd.... But here are all their videos. http://www.ageia.com/physx/videos.html
  7. Everybody deserves a vacation after a large body of work. whether or not some view the work as complete. Period. In fact, I would venture to guess that your chance of getting the things you want done and done well are greatly enhanced by a hard working team that took time to rest tehir bodies and thier minds. So I think your suggestion might actually work against you .... No offense intended.
  8. Hey! A boy can dream can't he? Geez. Do you go to the recipient of surprise parties your invited to and tell them?
  9. I'm glad those GRiN guys dissappeared. For the most part. I mean I know we still have Wolf talking to us. But the rest of them have dissappeared and I'm glad they did! . . . . . . . . . . It gives me hope they are busy and hard working on a great patch We are counting on you GRiN! Go GriN!
  10. ROFL, that's what I was doing last nite after 3 huge glasses of iced tea. Ghost Enak comes on comms cuz he's having connection issues with our server and he needed some questions answered. So I hear everyone talking and since I'm "busy" I gotta finish, cuz ya'll know you can die if you cut it off mid-stream. Enak I left you a post in the tech thread, thought it might help. Seriously though, I got really good at GR by watching Phootsoldier on some replays I got hold of for GR. Watching is how kids learn to do things, it's how as adults we learn how to do things. So while some people don't think that being in deathcam is fun, it can be constructive time to learn how to better yourself with the game. Trust me. I played my share of GRAW1 at one death and was very happy to have such a nice death cam feature awaiting me More often than not though, i played TDM on 3 and 5 death servers ....
  11. Now thats the most sense ive seen in any of these threads in along long time.
  12. I, for one, would like ot see reviewers indicate how many hours they spent playing each aspect of the game. Something like ... SP Caampaign --- 5 hours Coop Campaign -- 4hours with 3 other humans Coop --- 6 hours with 4 to 7 otherplayers etc But I'm just dreaming .... But it would help reviewers gain more credability by showing their readers that they recognize the differences in the modes of play and paid attention to each seperately
  13. LOL. When i read "Dumbed down M8", i thought it was a thread by an Englishman (UK) talking about friendly AI issues ....
  14. This "review of the reviewer" is one of the most interesting and welcomed ideas on the subject in ages. Thanks for the effort. great reading!
  15. Good luck guys. I can't help at all. But I can wish you good luck. On second thought, look to me as a tester when you get to that point.
  16. Wolf? first you said .... then you said.. What are the naunces that differentiate these 2 statements? in other words, what does the word "Custom", as used in the second statement, mean differently than what you said in your first statement.... Did you simply forget your initial statement had been made, or does "Custom", in this context, means something more than the first statement was meant to mean?
  17. Exactly.....how is anyone supposed to L2P on a no-respawn server? It's how I learned Maybe so. But respawn servers are still superior when it comes to learning the maps sooner. No respawn servers are superior when it comes to gritty, suspenseful, tactical play devoid of "heroes". what I find so interesting is how everyone talks about "learning the map". Of course, it provides a huge advanatge in play, but I still love the first couple of times I play a new map, where I have no idea what is coming around the corner. Those are often the most exciting game moments ......
  18. The clue to the "decent reason" lies in the fact that the XBOX360 has been around 1 year longer than the PS3, and yet the PS3 allowed mouse support first. Don't you find that odd? It is not in MS's best interest to migrate PC gamers to the consle. PC gamers buy very expensive PCs and they buy very expensive MS software, including the Operating System, to have that PC. Sony does not have a operating system or MS Office product to support. When MS makes their xbox(360) feel like a PC for PC gaming, they "Shift" customers away from PCs. This is not a net revenue gain. When Sony makes a PS3 feel like a PC, they "Take" customers". This **IS** a net revenue gain. These market shifts are not inconsequential. Look how many PS3s are supposed to be in the market place in the next few years. I believe recent estimates were 70 million. If the mouse revolution on the PS3 side takes hold, 20 million of those 70 million could be PC gamers who finally migrated. That would repersent a huge loss to MS and a huge gain for Sony. There is your first "decent reason".
  19. I respectfully recommend you re read my post. My title may say that, but I ask specifically about things like rocks and such in a seperate paragraph.
  20. http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=45379 Are we talking about the same thing in this post I made previously in the modding section?
  21. Cool. could someone please apply this standard to the gamespy review?
  22. I recently documented a "CAnnot move the mule bug" in Campaign coop (I see you are talking about SP from a saved game ... but there may still be a conncetion in some way) where in the mule can only be moved by the original squad leader .... i.e.. The host who started the game as the SL) and only when that squad leader is in the squad leader position. In other words, you may have lost your "original squad leader status' between the first play and the saved game play ....... What do i mean by that seemingly confusing comment? It means that the squad leader (in campaign coop only ... not SP) who starts as the SL loses his position as such when he is killed. when he respawns, the SL tools have moved down the line to the next player. However, that next player seems to be unable to move the MULE. Your coming back after a saved game may be mishandled as a respawn of sorts. A flag value gets reset or desynced. kind of a classic software error..... Now, when that new SL dies and so on until the SL contrlls return to the original SL, then and only then can the new SL (who was the original SL for the game) be able to move the MULE> This is my current hypothesis. I don't yet call it a fact becuase I have only seen it happen twice and only in 2 player/no freindly AI coop games. So ther combinations and permutations woul dneed to be tested to see the real pattern. But this is a rreasonable assumption on the issue as it stands so far. I believe this bug and many others seen in campaign coop are directly realted to a thoery that I have wherein I think the original campaign coop tools for SL's were removed in the 11th hour due to bugs they could not resolve. hence, I believe that the "deactivation" of the SL tools for humans in campaiogn coop lead to other, unintended consequences like this one and like the red diamond desync bugs and others in campaign coop. But I'm just commenting outloud. I have no certain proof of course. ...
  23. I get what your saying here. truly I do. but why would you put your waypoint "Next to" a cover position rather than "AT" a cover position? Or is that what you meant? Based on Bo's response on how they designed the AI, your orders have to be pretty exact and they do very little thinking for themselves (which I challenged in that post ... but it is what it is ...)
  24. Wait. Don't you mean "only one OPEN server"? after all, some servers are password protected. Can you see their setup without the pasord? (I actually don't know .... i never checked) Also, for example, TheGamerPlanet has been my one kill server for GRAW1 coop. They just got their coop server for GRAW2 up the other night and we had it on respawn so everyone could kinda get used to the new system etc and look for issues with the server and admin controls. But they are a one kill server. just not on the first couple of nights. So I'm guessing there will be more over time. finally, allowing respawns certainly does bite into tactical play to some extent. But for certain groups of freinds on closed servers, they do both. If you are disciplined, you can keep your pucker high and still allow respawns. In certain instances, respawns are the death of tactical play. In other instances, it is not.
  25. They all have conflicts of interest. They all advertise for the gaming companies and their games. they all get revenues to be distribution points for direct to drive, official demo mirrors etc. The revenue web they weave in the gameing magazing world, like all the online magazines, is very incestuous and self serving. To apply this to Gamespy alone would be unfair. They all deserve a certain amount of "conflict of interest" scrutiny. furthermore, many games (most games?) use Gamespy to present their online games to the world. Have they never bad mouthed a terrible game that they supported? I actually don't know. I think I will go over to Gamespy and take a look.
