  2. Thanks for the replies, but I haven't renamed anything or re-ordered anything. In summary, The mapname is still my_map and all I did was lay down streets, buildings, tables, chairs, walls and some trees. Tested and all was well. I then added more walls, found problems (bad overlapping and black objects resulted), fuxed them and all was well again. I then added more details like cups, smeared paint, planters with trees, still fine. I felt that I had a firm grasp of the editor at this time after actually finding and fixing tons of lighting problems so I spent more time on details creating a park with fountain, adding wild grass, ivy on walls and going up the side of a building, more vehicles, trees, and then found myself with color issues (I know 100% that the objects are for the map theme city so that isn't the issue). Screen was very very dark and some objects were lit weird. I found myself troubleshooting for a long time sine the only way to find the problem is to back items out or move them around in the map to see if that solves the problem, export, wait an hour or so then hope for the best. I kept finding that my efforts were not working. I did wake up this morning to find my last backing out to work so now I will once again nickle and dime the map and finish it. When I make the maps I take into account many things such as the occasional oil spills on the roads at crosswalks, under vehicles, etc. These minor details make the maps look better. So as it stands, I am upset at the results the editor is giving me thus far, but I can't stay away from it because I love the results when they area a success.
  3. I've spent the past 2 days working on a map that has much original detail like spray props and more. I saved and exported yesterday and it worked fine, but after today (and I didn't add much) I get tons of screen colors, dark, weird green lit colors, etc. I have backed out everything I can think of and more to try and remedy this situation. The only objects I am unable to remove are 2 small fires and a small smoke piece. I am not sure if that is what the issue is, but I am very ###### that the editor is that touchy to cause issues. Does anyone have advice other than save your work and export and test every 30 minutes? The editor is missing select all or select like item features as wel as SAVE as features. I could throw together a simple low object, low detail map together, but I try to make them more advanced if possible. Now that should be allowed with this editor, but I am at a wall here and cannot figure out what the heck the problem is. I have backed out a ton of stuff and nothing is getting better. Starting again will only give me fear of coming to the same conlcusion again. I have like 30-40 hours into this map, mostly exporting tests to find problems so you can see my frustration.
  4. When I choose to export and give the map a name, it exports, however, the map name is still my_map (or whatever the default is). Also is there an easy way to change the name of the saved file? I like to be consistant and keep my map's filename the same as the name of the map, however, the 1st time I made the map it saved it under the default and I cannot easily change it. What gives.....
  5. Nice work bro. I went through the map and saw lots of design ideas that you used so kudos. Only testing problems I saw (and you may have seen them as well) are behind the "bank" area on the road there are some very small black areas on the road crossing. Also behind the "embassy" there is floating grass by the fence. Other than that - the map is a joy and I am sure people will love to play it.
  6. you should never work 2 days with _anything_ without checking if its working, just like I save my 3dsmax files every 3 minutes in a new file incase it decides to go bonkers on me and corrupt my files. just a little friendly tip! you know what, Im not a level designer , i am an arist, and dontk now the editor that well, but ill try and learn it as a half noob and might run into the same issues as you guys and then ill be able to help you better as I can get answers straight from my fellow coworkers. that sound ok? Well at 1st I mapped, then tested and all was well so in good faith of the editor I mapped and just saved then re-tested without doing the lengthly compiler. So as it stands there are many problems with the editor. Also another thing I dislike is the inability so work on a project then save it under a different name. You have to use a workaround method for that. In any case I will continue to map and nickle & dime the testing to make sure it gets done in a working order. Thanks for the replies.
  7. I spent 2 long days on a large map using city items with lots of detail. When I extract it takes a while, but the end result is a map with a ton of black objects and the blackness moves with me. Mapping is a hobby of mine and I will be extremely upset if I am left hoping that any map I make works out or not. It looks like I am wasting time so I would like to discuss why this is happening. Is it that we can only make small maps with little detail? If I have to keep extractng and checking my work that is ###### poor of a map editor in my book. I am very frustrated to say the least. Anyone have any ideas???
  8. It is quite possible that the reason this happened is because I did not have any spawn_dummies in the map. I added 1 on a road and I spawned fine so I am guessing that is the issue/solution.
  9. Just so that I understand correctly on what you are saying..... The map editor allows you to pick objects that are for the other sets (i.e. ghetto, historical, etc), but when you go to test/run the map they will not look correct? If that is true then the map editor programmers may want to look into fixing that in a future patch. Please reply so that I and othe readers can understand. Thanks.
  10. When I go to test my map I am unable to walk through it because the player falls through the ground and keeps falling. Any idea why that would occur? There are streets all over and I cannot see why this would happen, but it has put a damper on my map testing. Any help is appreciated.
  11. I used the static tile objects which give you different tile sizes. My guess is that is the template to go by, but I still need a few more days to figure it out.
  12. I will 1st briefly introduce myself then explain why I am starting this personal discussion. My name is Tom Anger and I am director of http://www.nova-inside.com which is directly part of http://www.action-inside.com. I have been a gamer in the NovaLogic realm for over 3 years now and will definietly be tapping into the G.R.A.W. game (which is pre-ordered). My roots on GR was from Xbox LIVE. 1st and foremost I will get used to the combat style as I know it will differ from what I am used to, but I have a small understanding since I play GR and GRIT on Xbox LIVE. Obviously pc is much better than a console... My main reason for this post is to find out more in the custom map making aspect. Map editing has been my hobby since Playing in NovaLogic. I have made numerous maps for Joint Operations Typhoon Rising in the stock game as well as for 2 mods of it. Some of the maps were replicas of Ghost Recon maps. Some came out very nice and recognizable to people as GR maps, and others were so so. In JO we are limmited to objects. Load screen links are posted at the end as an idea. QUESTIONS (mostly on map making, but some questions are to find out about the people behind GR and contact info): 1. What is the map editor for GR, GRIT, GRAW, etc? 2. Where can I get the editor? 3. Are there tutorials? 4. What are the names of other good map makers who are still active in making Ghost Recon Maps. 5. Forgive me if I am a bit "in the dark" on this question. I see a bunch of names out there like GRIN, Bo Anderson, and other names. Who are these resources or "BIG WIGS" for the main Ghost Recon forums? UBIRazz seems to be a very important person in this forum site, but I would like to have a reference point to see who's posts are a very resourcefull post and who are the individuals responsible for the game, demos, and other info. This may be a tough question to answer, but I am asking anyway. Basically if I have an important question or issue with the G.R.A.W. game who should I contact? Here are some map sample screenies that I made in JO. Maps are a hobby and I will be puting much focus in the new G.R.A.W. if I can get more info on the map stuff.
