As part of our Ghost Recon 10th Birthday celebrations we are extremely pleased to present a short exclusive interview with Darren Chukitis, the Lead Producer of Ghost Recon back in 2001.
What was your title/function on Ghost Recon.
What can you remember about the developement phase.Lead Producer
We had a great mix of veteran developers and young eager talent wanting to prove themselves.
What can you remember about Ghost Recon's release and its critical acclaim?
I was and still am very proud of this product.
What aspect of the game, no matter how small, can you look at and say "I did that?".
I had worked with Bill Brown very closely on the music, and generated much of the design he eventually created for us.
Who are you working for now and what are you working on.
I'm with Bethesda Softworks and working on many titles-most recently supporting Arkane with Dishonored.
What game releases coming up are you excited about?
I'm backlogged with titles right now-Batman/BF3/MW3-I'll be busy over Thanksgiving!
What do you make of Ghost Recon in 2011 - with talk Of GR:FS, GR:O and GR:C, and a movie! Did you ever think it would come to this?
Ubisoft has taken the product in a different direction than I would-but I wish them all the best and my friends still at RSE.
Did you know fans are still making massive mods for the original that are so big they are classed as unofficial expansion packs, and the total amount of Ghost Recon mods available for download now wieghs in at over 8000 files and almost 40Gb of data!
I remember trying out many of the mods and was impressed at the detail and innovation fans brought-it was very humbling.
Fans of the original still maintain that there is no other single game that can match the rich feature set, squad tactics and effortless but deep and open gameplay that Ghost Recon offers, would you agree?
I do. I hope someday to be involved in bringing back the squad tactics of GR and combine them with tech of today-no other product does that currently.
What message would you like left, as part of your legacy to Ghost Recon?
All your base belong to us.
Many thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to help us celebrate Ghost Recon's 10th Birthday Darren, and many thanks for all your efforts in bringing us the tremendious Ghost Recon! Long Live Ghost Recon!
