Where can I store my Mod for people to download?
If you plan to host your mod yourself, make sure your hosting account permits large file transfers are GR mods are very popular. It is not unusual to see GR mods disappear of the web as quickly as they appear because webhosts remove them due to server strain.

We can organise to mirror your mod so everyone can download it. If your mod is less than 5Mb you can mail it to me, if it is over 5Mb you should try and find some temporary hosting that I can download it from. Try searching the web for "free hosting". One site you could try is freeprohosting.com

How do I interrogate the prisoners in the Free Russia Mod?
To interrogate the prisoners in Free Russia you could try shooting them with a handgun, to a non-lethal body part. You may have to scare them into talking by doing it to more than one prisoner.....

How do I use RSBs?
A quick run-down on how to successfully install the plugin and use the RSBs.

1) Make sure you have the newest RSB (comes with DS)
2) RSBBitmap.8bi should be put in the PlugIns folder of EITHER PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro It works for both.
3) Go to the file you wish to open- If it's a skin(standard rifleman), go to Origmiss\Character\Allied\ica_us_rifleman_body.rsb
4) Right Click it, Go to properties, untick the "Read-Only" box.
5) Open up your editor
6) Open the file.

How do I change the Reticule colour?
RAT_SpOoK sent in this tip to assist those having problems with Friendly Fire in Ghost Recon. Modding the colour of the Reticule can make it easier on the eye when recognising friend from foe, here's how you do it.

  • Close Ghost Recon
  • \Program Files\Red Storm Entertainment\Ghost Recon
  • Open options.xml in Notepad
  • Find <ReticuleIFFColorR>255</ReticuleIFFColorR>
  • There are 3 lines, one each for Red Green and Blue
  • Change the numbers to change the colours
  • For example 255,0,0 would be Red, which works quite well. for a handy list of colour codes check this page out.

How do I make new maps for Ghost Recon?

In order to make new maps, an expensive developers tool called 3dsmax is required. So yes, you could make maps, but it is not easy. You can find a tutorial here.

How can I make new missions for Ghost Recon?

New missions can be made using Igor, the editor that shipped with Ghost Recon. To use Igor, look in your 'Ghost Recon' folder for igor.exe and run it. Tutorials for Igor can be found here and here. If you have any questions about modding using Igor, then please feel free to post in our Mods forum.

What else can be modified in Ghost Recon?

In addition to making new missions, you can make new character, including specialists, weapons, weapon models, skins and more. As time passes, people will delve deeper into the game and find more things to mod. Keep an eye on the News page and the Mods forum for tips on how to mod, tutorials, and upcoming mod releases.

How do you use IGOR, the built in mod editor?
Ghost Recon ships with an Editor called IGOR, which can be used to Modify elements of the game. You can read more about IGOR here and here.

Where is the Armpatch option?
There is no armpatch feature in Ghost Recon.

Can I change the nightvision colour, or how it works?
No - it is hardcoded into the game.

How do I download mods from here?
We have partnered with @war and Fileplanet to bring you the collection of mods you see on our Downloads page. It is the most up-to-date and comprehensive collection of Ghost Recon Mods available anywhere. All you need is a free account from Gamespy in order to access their Fileplanet downloads, including all the Ghost Recon mod that we have out there.

When you click the mod link you will be taken to Fileplanet's download page for that mod. It is totally free - simply select a Public Server from the page our Mod links take you to at FilePlanet.

The page you arrive at is in two halves. The top half says "Personal Server" - you have to pay if you want one of those. The bottom half says "Public Server" - and should have 2 or 3 download buttons - these will take you to the free download straight away.

If you get a "404 File Not Found" error click "Back" and try the link again - it is just a small error that sometimes creeps into the download system.

Disable any download accelerator tools you may have running as these will cause download errors when using Fileplanet.

Why do we use Fileplanet? It's quite simple - for us to host the files here would be too expensive. Every time a file, or even a webpage, is transmitted to your PC it costs money, and I personally pay for that data transfer. The technical name for it is "Bandwidth", and we pay for bandwidth on a monthly basis. If you were downloading mods from here the cost would be enormous, that's why we send our mods to FilePlanet so you can grab them for free.
