  1. The definition of depth of field is the amount of distance that a subject will stay in focus; usually refering to photography, film, or video. In a shallow depth of field, there is a small distance in which things remain in focus, while on the contrary, a or deeper depth of field will yeild a larger distance in which an object will remain in focus. In this picture, the depth of field is very shallow with the exposions going off, without the explosions, the dof would be deeper.

Oh, and also, the field of view, as many of you know is the angle at which something is shot. A wide angle shot will have a wide field of view: 85 degrees or more, a normal field of view (which best portrays what the human eye sees without peripheral vision) is about 55 degrees, while a telephoto shot with a narrow field will have an angle somewhere around 30 degrees or even less. In the film, photography, and video world, the ability to change field of view without having to change a lens is having a variable focal length, or in other words, zoom. GRAW must not have zoom, so maybe we need a more wide angle lens for those that the gameplay makes them get nausious from time to time.

  2. Aparently you might need two vid cards to see the physics in their full potential (from what I've heard). I'm going to hold off until issues are resolved and the system is solid. This is sorta the first game out utilizing ppu's, so, I'll give it a little time, but I'll end up getting one sooner or later anyhow.

  3. Yeah, at least the good thing is that you can send teammates into the zones where Mitchell is otherwise restricted (from my experience). I think the feature is forcing you to use your crosscom and plan things out tactically, man per man- sending one guy on a route to distract the MG while you take a shot at the gunner's side. The downside of this is the fact that the distraction guy is on a suicide run if you can't neutralize that machine gun within fractions of a second. It makes the game harder- keeps the player from being Rambo and killing every single one of the tangos. At least the team is somewhat good shots, even if their intelligence is questionable at times.

  4. I don't think a 1600x1200 resolution makes FSAA and AF completely useless. Also not everyone around is equipped to play at such resolution. I would also add that such a resolution eats up ressources for absolutely nothing since there is almost no visual difference with 1280x1024... Finally, I currently have a 19" monitor wich doesn't support 1600x1200, although my hardware could probably handle that resolution. That's where FSAA and AF would be appreciated...

Ditto. My monitor doesn't support the ultra-high resolution, I need that anti-aliasing.

  5. Yeah, the feild of veiw is less peripheral, which also makes the image seem more telephoto. By telephoto, the image loses some perspective (phantom 3rd dimension in a 2d image). For me, some of the three dimensionality is lost, but it's not horribly bad. Like its been said before, changing the FOV shouldn't be too hard.

  6. Hmmm. I downloaded the 84.43 forceware driver and the game seems to be running much smoother than before. Not 100 fps, but I think around 60 fps on average, so that's at least playable. Textures still stink because of the lack of a high setting and no anti-aliasing, but much better.

EDIT: Got the driver from nzone.com I believe.

  7. Here are some of my system spec's:

    AMD Athlon 64 4000+

    Asus A8N-SLi premium mobo

    2GB OCZ platinum gamer memory

    1x nVidia Geforce 7800 GTX

    Onboard Sound

I can't seem to get GRAW working on my machine very well. I keep getting the in-game cursor lag, and the fps is generally at or below 20 with highest possible graphics settings, but also with the graphics settings turned all the way down.

Are there drivers that I could download to help improve my performance?

I was really looking forward to this game to be nice, but so far it is relatively unplayable because of the extremely low fps and no AA. I'm just up for suggestions, and no, buying another new video card is not really an option, although I'm probably going to be getting a new processor sooner or later anyhow.

  8. I don't like the fact that my relatively brand new (Christmas '05) high-end PC runs this game like crap. I hope this changes because I had high hopes that this game is the next big thing in my gaming life. I hope those dreams aren't dashed. As for the hardware purchasing conspiracy, I can see the logic behind it, but I'm not sure if its exactly true.

  9. BF2 looks better on a machine with a nVidia 6600 GT and a AMD 3600 than GRAW looks on my computer with AMD 4000+, nVidia 256MB 7800 GTX over-clocked. The guns look worse, framerates freakishly low, and textures are worse than BF2's. I know that people without 512 MB card are not going to be able to get the max textures (will that be different in final release???), and that you can't get AA or AsA with an nVidia card, but this game should run much, much better than what it is right now.

As for the gameplay, I enjoy it (excluding bugs and video limitations). I've been stuck playing CoD2 and GRAW for the past year or so, so this is a nice refreshment. Friendly AI is not bad, enemy AI is insanely good. I just wish I can see how it performs on the retail version (I should be getting Thursday if my order is correct :D), because the demo is sucky for me.

By the way, here's all my vital spec's:

    Processor: AMD 64 4000+

    Vid. Card: nVidia(EVGA) 256MB 7800GTX-KO

    RAM: 2GB OCZ platinum Gamer

    Display: Viewsonic. Max/native res @ 1280x1024.

I downloaded the latest video drivers and the new aegia drivers, and not much improvement, but a little.
