by El Oso.
As well as the new camo
from Bajabravo, a new vehicle will make it's

Memorial Mod
19 January 2003 Rocky
Many members of the community have already
donated
to the =SeALZ=Geordie fund after the tragic
accident (see boxout on the right). Another
way people can donate is to join in with a
Community Mod that is being planned to pay
respect to =SeALZ=Geordie. Some top name modders
are leading this project, and they are looking
to build a team committed to making a mod
worthy of this cause.
If you would like to contribute,
be it a mission script, a map, a skin, a weapon,
wallpaper, splash screens - anything, mail
me now with details on how you would like
to help. Thanks.

Parachute
17 January 2003 Rocky
I still remember the first time I played a
Rainbow Six mod that had the team parachute
into a map, cool stuff. Now experienced Ghost
Recon modder Biffa has gone and done it for
Ghost Recon!

Biffa is working
hard on a new campaign based on Operation
Market Garden, one
of the boldest plans of the second World
War. The campaign contains 6 linked missions
which are as accurate as possible to the actual
events that took place in Holland 1944. Operation
Market Garden requires War
of Infamy and will be released around
the same time as a new version of WOI around
the end of this month.

new maps - this is a massive undertaking,

Parabellum
13 January 2003 Rocky
Sad news today as a Staff member here at GhostRecon.net
has handed in his notice in order to concentrate
on real life matters. Parabellum is one of
the recognised names in the Ghost Recon community,
and his help here and around the community
will be sorely missed.
Parabellum was a busy member
of the scene, active in the ground breaking
Black
Sun mod with the =DRAG= team, writing
Weapons
reports and he was recently working on
a First Person Weapon mod for Ghost Recon,
which you can see at his Tango-Down
website.
I want to publically thank
Parabellum for the work he carried out here
with such professionalism, and around the
community. If anyone has any comments they
would like me to pass on to Para, let
me know.

check the readme file here,
and visit the modder's website here!
~NkOgNiTo~ is considering a version 2.0, so

Playing Too Much?
13 January 2003
Rocky
There have been a few lists going around,
poking gentle fun at those of us who take
GR a little too seriously (is that even possible?!).
This
list from the guys at XRW is hilarious
though, if this sounds like you - you had
better check the other 63 out!

know more clan names than friends and family
members names"

Realism Mod 9
January 2003 Rocky
How much mod can you squeeze into around 5Mb?
Quite alot if you take a look
at the contents of Droopy's latest realism
mod for Island Thunder. Some tweaks included
to bring realism to the fore are
- Player Classes are
modified to bring a real class differentiation,
no more complete a mission with a sniper killing
25 enemys
- Snipers have limited
ammo and hard to use weapons but can hit a
coin size target at 100m.
- Enemys are no longer
olympic champions

Downtown 9
January 2003 Rocky
Thanks to Whisper for pointing out a new Island
Thunder map has quietly slipped out via NMM
Gun Works. Although it doesn't mention
Black Hawk Down anywhere, the resemblance
is obvious, especially the rather cool heli
insertion opening sequence.
There is one mission
included in both single player and co-op flavours,
but there is no mission briefing as it's a
straight forward Firefight. You'll find the
download for Dowtown at InsideG.

SAS
Evolution 8
January 2003 Rocky
An ambitious new Total Conversion is in prepartion
at SAS
Evolution. When I say ambitious, I mean
it, listen to what they have in mind...
"S.A.S
Evolution is unlike other S.A.S games that
are out at the moment as we are the first
modification to lay the emphasis on the historical
aspect of the worlds greatest special force.
The player will begin
the game back in 1952 shortly after the
formation of the 22nd S.A.S in the jungles
of Malaya and work their way steadily up
to the present day and beyond. Each and
every major documented mission of the S.A.S
will be playable in ultra-realistic detail,
from the deserts of Oman through to the
close quarter fighting during the Iranian
embassy siege in London and onto the infamous
role of the S.A.S during the Gulf war conflict."

forum thread. |

Hacked
Off Part II ! 7
January 2003 Rocky
As we try and rebuild our site after a hacker
attack devastated our server - another Ghost

is defacement, not destruction (so far). Visit
Locogamer
and see for yourself.

Hacked
Off 4 January
2003 Rocky
As many of you know by now, a devastating
hacker attack on the server that GhostRecon.net
is hosted on, put us offline for a few days.
I have the
majority of the site back online, but there
is alot of work ahead to get us back on our
feet, so you may find some pages or images
missing. The major setback is the forums,
which were not recoverable. In a few days
I hope to have new forums online, better than
ever with improved functionality and speed.
Our trademark
daily newspostings will resume shortly too,
so bear with us as we recover from this setback.
Thanks to everyone
who has mailed in best wishes, and for the
offers of help. I have not had time to reply
to them all, bear with me while I get this
ship afloat again!
Until then,
try modding your own face into Ghost Recon
with our brand new Tutorial
by Shot, or investigate the Ghost Recon
damage model in this
new report.

Demo
Stats Wednesday January
01 | Rocky
Daywanderer
pointed me towards some interesting news at the
Fileplanet's Demo Downloads page. As expected,
Raven Shield and Splinter Cell are riding high
in the chart, but who expected to see a year old
game still hanging into the Top 20? That's right,
Ghost Recon - over a year old and still a popular
Demo download!
This confirms the position
here at GhostRecon.net where our visitor statistics
still number many thousand every day - infact
we are just as busy as we ever were - long live
Ghost Recon!
Check the full list
here
and try out a new game for the new year. |
