===========================

This is a compilation mod, not an original piece of work! I've spent many
long hours modifying maps, weapons, vehicles etc. to fix mistakes and/or
conflicts, but very little in this mod is original work. The only thing
truly original are some of the sound files, some of the reticles, and some
of the skin files for vehicles, maps, and characters.

I was unable to obtain specific permission to use most stuff, due to outdated
email addresses and/or lack of contact info. I can only hope it's ok that I
use their models and skins. It was either do it without express permission,
or don't make the mod at all. For all the die-hard GR fans out there, I chose
the former.

Credit has been given for all known map makers in the "Map Credits.txt" file,
and for all known vehicle modlers in the "vehicle_ref.xls" file in the same
directory as this file. Unfortunately, it was impossible to determine or to
keep track of who made what weapon model.

If you're the original maker of something used in this mod, and just want
credit that wasn't given (due to oversight or lack of knowledge), email me
at df.modding@gmail.com, and I'll gladly add your name to the credits. I'm
a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due, whenever possible,
and I appreciate all the work everyone before me has done.

People whose work I believe is in this mod, who may or may not be listed
elsewhere in the credits (in no particular order):

Blakarion, Cobaka, Streinger, Chems, 10mm Auto, Baja Bravo, Worm, Harntrox,
Phlookian, Snowfella, Slugg, Sleeper, PUNiSHER, Hartog, El Oso, Neutron, Tof,
DonMiguel, Akira, Ausiguy, Bitshot, dead0n, Blahb, Mordred, SRKidd, Thales 100,
Corax, NWO, NYSF Ripper, Solid Snake, Piccolo, Sixpence, Deleyt, and Psycho Dad

Many thanks to all the modders I've listed, and any I may have missed or been
unaware of. Without you, GR would've been dead long ago.

Extra special credit and thanks goes out to Mike Schell. Without his tools,
tutorials, and everything he's given to the GR community, this mod would never
have been possible.

=====================================

Now, please indulge me with a short question and answer session with the
most common questions I receive:

Q: Why the name "Sharpened Switchblade"?
A: I first started learning to mod about a year and a half ago for the folks
who frequented my dedicated server. We eventually became "Ðelta Force,"
and they've proven to be a great bunch of friends. DF1 was a half-assed
attempt, and isn't even worth mentioning. DF2: Operation Switchblade was
my first real mod, which I dedicated to my friend "Switchblade" (a.k.a.
Mark), one of the first people I ever met when I tried online gaming. He
showed me how friendly and helpful gamers can be. I was attempting to make
a glitch-free mod, but failed miserably (at least in my opinion). Due to
all the errors I found in DF2, I scrapped my plans for the next mod, a
winter mod (DF3: Cryogenics), and settled on DF3: Sharpened Switchblade
to fix all the issues, instead. There will still be a winter mod, it'll
just be "DF4: Cryogenics." lol

Q: What exactly is DF3: Sharpened Switchblade, and how did you make the maps?
A: I didn't make the maps, or any of the models for that matter. DF3 is a
compilation mod, combining some of the best maps and models by some of the
best modders around. It's an attempt to produce a glitch-free mod that has
the best of everything anyone could want, all in one place. It is not
intended as a finished product with missions and campaigns, but more as a
foundation, with all the support needed for people to build missions and
campaigns, for almost any senario. None of the maps or models are original
work!! What IS original are many graphics and sound files, and the countless
hours spent reworking the maps and models to prevent conflicts, and to fix
issues or errors already identified.

Q: Why bother making another compilation mod?

A: For a number of reasons: First of all, because there's a lot of great stuff

out there for Ghost Recon that has never (or rarely) been seen. Also, because

almost no one is doing anything for all the Ghost Recon fans out there

anymore. More importantly, I was fed up with a buch of mods that had a

ton of errors, conflicted with themselves, each other, or more importantly,

conflicted with the original GR and expansion packs.

Q: Will DF3: Operation Switchblade conflict with other mods?

A: Maybe. That depends on the maker of the other mod, and if it was released

before or after DF3. All I guarantee is that DF3 will not conflict with

Ghost Recon (the original) or either of the expansion packs (Desert Siege

and Island Thunder) except in the ways listed in this file. It also will

not conflict with any of the popular mods at the time of release.

Q: Ok, how will DF3 conflict with GR, and the expansion packs?

#1) DF3 unlocks all of the original missions and maps so you can access

them in single player mode (I assume by now you've played them all

already, anyway).

#2) All DF3 weapons will be available in single player mode, as well as

all DF3 characters, as heroes.

#3) Ten of the original hero characters have been replaced by the DF3

characters, so they were available for offline play. Unfortunately,

this was unavoidable since GR only recognizes certain character

names as being legitimate "hero" characters.

#4) It fixes an error that caused the game to crash when choosing an

Island Thunder map for offline play for a gametype such as Firefight.

#5) The model for the "stationarygun.gun" (a Browning M2 machine gun)

has been replaced with a better model that doesn't conflict with

other fixed weapons, when placed on the same map.

#6) All original vehicle models that had conflicts with other models have

been overwritten with models that have no conflicts. In most cases,

the original was left exactly as it was, but without the conflicts.

The sole exception is the Humvee from the original Ghost Recon. That

has been overwritten with a slightly different Humvee, but the change

is hardly noticable, and shouldn't affect any missions written using

the original one.

#7) Although there is no noticible change, the Zodiac boat (crrc) model

has been reworked in 3D Studio Max to fix and prevent conflicts.

#8) The same stuff that most modders do, i.e. music, backgrounds, etc.

I believe I've done a better job at making things more, shall we

say... aesthetically pleasing, than many have done, though. That's

just my opinion, though. You can judge for yourself.

Q: Where did you find all this stuff?

A: All over the Internet. I spent countless hours searching for any and all material

I could find for Ghost Recon.

Q: Did you get permission from all the original modders?

A: No. Due to the fact that the game is 6 years old (released for

PC in 2001), in many cases I can't even determine who the original

modder or model-maker was. In most cases, even knowing the original

modder doesn't help since their contact info is no longer valid. Even

Mike Schell (one of the few to use his real name) has proven to be

impossible to track down, so I've given up. In a few cases, I know

the modders are still active in the GR community, but I have no way

to contact them. It's unfortunate, because I think if I could get

together with certain people like Cobaka, Blakarion, Snowfella,

10mm Auto, and others, the results could be astounding.

Q: What if the ones you couldn't contact try to sue you?

A: After 3 divorces, I have nothing left but a lot of debt, and really

bad credit. They're welcome to both. lol. I've given credit to

everyone I know about, and that's all I can do. If I've included

your work, but failed to give you credit, please email me at

df.modding@gmail.com and I'll be glad to add your name to the credits.

IMPORTANT:

Mission makers be sure to read ALL the notes on vehicles in the

"vehicle_ref.xls" file! They detail all issues I know of !!! I've

done my best to eliminate all conflicts, but I have limited tools to

do so, so I've documented all the ones I've found, but couldn't fix.

Even the original Ghost Recon and subsequent mods (Desert Siege and

Island Thunder) have conflicts that I don't have the tools or ability

to fully fix. If you want an example, try putting a humvee (from the

original GR) and a Zodiac... a.k.a. a CRRC (from Island Thunder) on the

same map... without DF3 active, of course. Whichever one you place first

will take precedance, and the second one will look like a messed up version

of the first one you placed. So you'll either have a Zodiac churning up

water on dry land, or a Humvee pretending to be a submarine, partially

submerged in the water. There were other conflicts in the originals too,

but DF3 fixes most of them, as long as you have it active, and set to the

highest priority (bottom of the list).

Its good to see Joe has finally put these up for everyone to use, they have been an awesome mod for our team and friends who play them with us. I know he has wasted many valuable hours of gaming as he was spending it working on the mods, sometimes i feel he enjoyed working on the mods more than actaully playing. The Delta Force team is still active, we still have a server for GR1 IP address 24.118.254.99

and we also have a server for GRAW2 .

I have played most of the Mods downloaded from this site, and I have to say that this one beats them all. Lots of action, plenty kills, I am impressed. I was shocked when between me and the person I play with, we had around 100 kills. Now for a mod with a 1000 kills per game :D

All in all, Very good programming A .

Be good, Be safe, and don’t shoot your eye out!

Great set of maps, weapons, and such.

One problem I have is missing textures on the DF 56 Mercenary Facility Map(doors, vehicles, fences). Not sure if this is problem on my end, but otherwise.... so many combinations, you could never get bored! A massive effort on the tweaker's part, no doubt.

Are some of the maps stolen from SOAF? I do not want to appear rude, but the names are the same.

DF06 Militia Compound DF40 Bank DF41 Red Storm - NWO DF44 Olson's Estate DF45 Reservoir DF46 Art Gallery - NWO DF47 TV Station DF48 Dressler's Estate DF56 Mercenary Facility

Some of the names sound quite generic, I know, but most don't.
