Once a new theme is announced, you will not be able to go back to a previous theme. You will not know when new themes will be announced. You will not know exactly which will be the last theme. Your score will be judged based on the average scores of each of your entries.

Quickly produce entries or gamble with the timing? Play the averages and submit an entry for each theme? Wait for a theme that speaks more to your talents and interests? It's up to you, young padawan ...

As you can see, some bright spark has been inspired to actually create some GRAW themed arm badges in an ACU and Multicam stylee.

What I challenge you to do is create an ACU arm badge with this website as the theme.

In one week, 32 countries will send their best and brightest to do battle in the fields of Germany ... and nearly one in every seven human beings on the planet will watch.

This is GDC XIII!!

Here is your chance to show your national pride ... create a wallpaper dedicated to a national soccer team of your choice. Entries that are careful to provide space for icons will be rewarded with utility points. Creatively conveying the sense of pride, rather than plastering players over each other, will garner the originality points. Wallpapers ought to be easy on the eyes and not detract too much from the icons so, unlike past GDCs, the color palette will be a major factor. Keep all entries exactly 800x600 ... and note the minimum point hurdle ... like the starting 11, you’ll be fighting for this one.

You’re mission, stalwart spelunker of The GDC, is to fashion an “above the fold†article in a local Mexican newspaper, complete with press photo, of any one, some, or all of the GRINsters having an "encounter" with the local policia or federales ... heck, throw the Felix Arrellano drug cartel in there for good measure!!

Points for being on topic will be based on the entry’s depiction of GRIN getting into some manner of debauchery and being sprawled out in a local newspaper. The authenticity of the layout will work towards your utility score. Key to this GDC will be your sadistic sense of originality in depicting the situation ... but as always, keep it in good taste (i.e., hookers and beer are good tasting).

Because we here at The GDC, and GR.net in general, are such good sports (not), we have dedicated this GDC to spread forth our goodwill (not) to the enemy good people of RSE. Yes, design brethren, you will be designing “good luck†(sorta) messages to the lamers fine people of Red Storm Entertainment.

Ok, maybe not. But he did bring forth the original “Sig Awards†the first of which was kicked off back in February of 2003. He provided inspiration and guidance to numerous Ghost Recon.net members in design theory and was instrumental in contributing to the growth of the site itself. If it were not for Velocity, The GDC would likely not even exist!! What the heck would you be doing with your Friday nights?!

This GDC is freeform, meaning that you decide the format. Whether it be a wallpaper, a postcard, a user bar, a signature, it’s all entirely up to you. Veteran GDCers will know that the on topic score will determine how creatively you come up with a format. They’ll ponder how to maximize their utility score which reflects how well the entry lives up to the format. They will strive to achieve high originality points whilst submitting in due haste for that elusive speed score.

We spend countless hours sacrificing company resources and time to keep abreast of the latest news regarding our favorite video game (or the bastardization thereof ... sorry, couldn’t help it). Now it’s your turn to take a crack at remaking the very banner we hold so dear ... the GR.net banner!!

Entrants must submit just one banner meant to encapsulate the essence of badass that is Ghost Recon and the community of GR.net. Do not create link buttons. The banner must meet exactly the size parameters below and must be linked by thumbnail with a maximum width of 500 px. Banners may be a static image, animated GIF, or Flash-based. Let’s see what you can find in your favorite video game. It doesn’t have to be Ghost Recon, but it has to be an actual video game screenshot incorporating some reference to Ghost Recon.net ... find the site’s banner plastered along Forza Motorsport’s speedways? Catch a glimpse of Bo covering a corner in Full Spectrum?

The only rules are that the Easter egg image must have been obtained from the public forums here at GR.net ... any image . And that it must be incorporated into an actual video game screenshot (although it does not have to be your own screenshot). Although be advised that the image should be convincing enough – cutting and pasting out of a photograph without some bitmap tracing or postarizing may not quite cut it in this GDC.

Many moons ago i started to try a design of the banner and a few here have created a few of them.

I was wondering if Rocky/Ronin would entertain a GDC Gr.net banner competition?

Not sure just one banner but maybe 2 like GR1 and GR2 & GRAW .. so 3 entries covering all 3 versions.

Maybe areas such as Desert / Jungle / Urban etc. This in a way could link to a logo design too as in the banner also incorperates a logo so you get kind of 2 GDC's in one.

Then the winner actualy the gets used for the main banner (a great prize for a GDC) and a fresh look to gr.net.

Or 3 winners for gr1 / gr2 / graw each used for the tabs in news section.

May seem quite a lot I guess for 3 winners and 3 different games ... maybe even a banner that incorprates a decent new logo & a clever way to cover all the generations of Ghost Recon in 1 banner thus 1 winner etc etc.

Just an idea ... I will shut up now

Deaths caused by smoking are five times higher than the 22,833 deaths arising from: traffic accidents (3,439); poisoning and overdose (881); alcoholic liver disease (5,121); other accidental deaths (8,579); murder and manslaughter (513); suicide (4,066); and HIV infection (234) in the UK during 2002.  World-wide, almost 5 million die prematurely each year as a result of smoking.

Based on current trends, this will rise to 10 million within 20 years.
