Some of you might be asking what an old timer like budgie is doing trying to mod. In GR I got to tinkering with kits and sounds and eventually weapon stats (enemy guns are still too accurate at times) and finally this has led me to IGOR – the final frontier. But knowing nothing of programming my modding has never gone beyond point and click. This is why I am so frustrated with IGOR because it is so user–unfriendly. Let’s hope they get it right in GR2. Most of the things I had to do here could – with a more efficient engine – be done in half the time or less. If not, it is safe to say that I’ll never become a modder.
So what have I tried to achieve here? Well I consider myself more a film director than a modder here. Yes it was ambitious of me to script a big mission with over a hundred actors and helicopters flitting to and fro. And it is indulgent of me to explain my motives in this long prose. I could have done a simple mission to say I did it, but I wanted to realize IGOR’s potential – to go beyond what the developers envisaged as other great mission modders such as El Oso, Jack57 and Sixpence have done before me. Indeed I stood upon the shoulders of these giants and from there I could see further than I think RSE initially did. If I was a director though, I was Coppola and this was my Apocalypse Now. Over three weeks of sleepless nights and frustrating dead ends. My thanks to the members of gr.net who helped me through it.
Well here’s the vision. Inspired by books like Band of Brothers, Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers, I wanted to see the long, frantic firefights described in real wars, transposed to the game. We have seen highly scripted versions in MOHAA and Call of Duty, but these played out the same every time. This battle is only scripted up to the point of contact and apart from a couple of crews that get in jeeps to move, everything else happens on its own. The NPC weapons are all dumbed down to make the shooting last longer, but how many times have we complained about a Russian recruit with an old Kalashnikov bullseyeing us at 200 paces? For those who like it hard, the sheer volume of fire will decrease chances of survival.
GR makes the payer feel like the center of the universe. Bad guys wait for you and react to your movements alone. It is also quiet when the player isn’t shooting. In this mod, the game goes on with or without you. The US will probably win the battle even if you do nothing. This is realistic to me; the under-trained, poorly armed enemies really don’t compare. I fixed the friendly NPCs’ weapons to a higher standard than the enemies’. But they will lose more men if you don’t help, and there’s no guarantee that you and your team will come out alive. GR and MOHAA share one thing in common – that the world stops if you sit and do nothing. It gets rather lonely at the center of the universe. In Fallujah, Fubar, you should feel like a necessary part of the battle, but not the focus of the entire game.
The difficulty levels relate more to frame rates than anything else. On recruit, anyone should be able to play it and get a glimpse of what I tried to achieve, but I doubt they’ll appreciate it much. The mission might even be considered overly easy, despite there being less friendly backup. The elite game is my vision in all it’s glory: Initially 19-24 friendlies (depending how many you bring along in your team) inserting in four choppers and moving against a hornet’s nest of Iraqis with machine guns spraying and RPGs flying everywhere. A further dozen friendlies arriving as back up makes for over a hundred men on the field, 3 jeeps, 2 armored cars and anywhere from 1-4 choppers flying about. I made this on a P4, 2.5Ghz machine with a GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. You’ll need a juiced up gaming rig to be able to play and enjoy the elite game at decent frame rates, but that is the look I wanted for it.
I hope you all enjoy my brief vision, especially those who have the juice to run it. Cheers.

Will not even come up as a mod for me - I have GR Gold Ed. with IT and DS installed and active, and have played many other mods, and it shows as one I can activate, but I cannot start a campaign.
I just realized "Eye for and Eye" are just six? eight? single missions and are not packaged as a campaign. That sucks since you can build your team and I downloaded it as a "campaign", not as single missions. Is this true for this?

And sure enough, the first mission crashes. Has anyone played this successfully? Any suggestions?

Fantastic! Absolutely Fantastic! I love that even though the plot is the same each time you can change your role each time. Like you can hang back and play sniper or you can just be a rifleman and move with the squads. More missions like this would make gr so much more fun than it already is! Thanks!
