Kinda off topic, but for referrences only start with the very best: Ghost in the Shell to me Matrix wouldn't be here without it. Especially Animatrix My definition of Anime is animation outside the definitions of Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny...in a nut shell: not for kids Manga=comics in magazine style, meaning larger than Marvel/DC/Image comics boundaries...Uncenscored,Highly detailed, stories lines beyond X-men. Example again, Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2...AppleSeed... The arts/graphic, storyline and subjects is what separates Manga/Anime from traditional Mickey Mouse/ Bugs Bunny/SuperHeroes. The part about the teen girls isnt as questionable and widespread as you think, except in Japan proper. I have close to 40 series, and it depends on which ones you get to watch. There are alot of really good ones out there. A lot of them. It depends on what you like. As for the porn series, they are strictly limited in the US, and can only be obtained by mail order, or at adult stores. But as for general Anime, most of it is very good.
